Does Find My Iphone Need Wifi

How do I find my iPhone's IP address?

A wifi connection to your router will have one IP address, the phone’s data connection will have another IP address. Both answers are given here, but the people answering aren’t making clear (to you - which is why I’m posting this, it;s clear to me, but I have decades of experience with this) which one they’re telling you how to find. And every time you connect to a different wifi router (like McDonalds, Walmart, etc.), you’ll get a different address. Networking Tools will give you your external IP address, whatever your connection type is. (There are other sites - that’s the one I’ve always used. no particular reason, though.)(Your internal address is pretty irrelevant - that’s the address between your phone and the router - wifi or your carrier’s data connection - you’re connected to.)

How does "Find my iPhone" app work?

there are currently 2 answers & while both are right they are not the full story.gps yes that works quiet wellwifi, remember when google done street view? they also logged what wifi they could see, if you are in your house and can see 2 neighbours wifi (one from up the street & one from down the street) but if you were to go one house one house up you are nolonger in range of one of them. then THAT can narrow down the area you are in based on how many wifi signals you can seesure google is not the only one that has been doing this but they are the most well knowncell towers using the same method as with wifi, by seeing what towers your phone can find it narrows down where you could behere is a image giving an idea of how this worksmost places have more than one tower in range so it gives an idea of the area, the more towers the smaller the area.now add wifi to this and the area becomes smaller.gps works on a similar concept based on what satellites it can currently find & what distance they are away

How do i find my wifi password for my iphone?

Are you sure the WiFi security is using WEP? It could be WPA or WPA2? Yes, you'll need the passkey for the WiFi network for your iPhone to join as well as the name of the network if SSID is turned off. I suggest looking at other devices on the same WiFi and see if they will display the passkey in plain text and then copy it down. Most Macs will show the key in Keychains if you have admin rights.

The paraphrase will probably not work since it is just a word used to generate the key. There is however a difference between the hex version of the key and the full alphanumeric version. Either should work. I almost always use the alphanumeric. Use to be you had to preface the hex version with a $ symbol to tell the Mac which one you were using, but I've never had to do that with my iTouch.

Does the iPhone 4 have wifi capability?

I want to get the new iPhone, but I'm a little worried about the new data plans and going over. Does the iPhone 4 have the ability to use my home network (or any network I have access to) to access data and thus not tap into my data plan? I'm pretty sure it does, but I can't seem to find an answer. Thanks!

Iphone wont connect to wifi?

I was having the same problem on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G.
This worked for me:
Go in to Settings then WiFi, tap the arrow next to your network name and turn on Auto-Join then wait a few seconds without doing anything. All 3 devices then automatically connected and stayed connected.

I have an old iPhone 5s without a sim card. How do I find it?

How do you find a phone without a SIM in it?It has to be turned on to stand any chance of using any automated/assisted location App. However, this will work only if the phone is within range of a WiFi network to which it has been joined and still has the network profile stored on the phone. If you left the phone at a random location or it was stolen, then it will probably not connect to any WiFi network and a manual search for the phone is likely to be the only way of finding it.Only if it is configured to connect to a national network of WiFi hotspots and is running a locator program perhaps using GPS to provide the coordinates will it be more likely to allow it to be found. This will work only until the battery goes flat, and running WiFi and GPS will increase battery drain.

How can I get my iPhone to turn wifi on and off in locations?

Once again, I will answer this question so the general person seeing it can understand the difference between iPhone and Android. This ability is probably available in Android. You buy an android phone if you want to do all kinds of stuff like this, you have more choices, more options, and more control. Not everyone wants more choices, some people want the phone to work, the battery to last, and to not have to do three things when 2 will suffice. There is no need to turn the wifi off on your iPhone, you are not eating up that much power. If you dont connect to wifi at a location, it wont connect to it automatically so your wifi is not connected. If you need to save more power, turn the brightness down a notch….on any phone/device

Iphone wifi connects to comcast router but internet doesn't work?

Hi, I am really desperate here.
The problem: my iphone 4s does connect to my home wifi network but then the internet doesn't work, even if the wifi signal is full on.
My router is technicolor TC8305C.
I have already tried:
-reboot router
-reboot iphone
-reset network settings on iphone
-change the channel from automatic to manual ( I tried 1 , 6 and 11)
-change the security protocol to WPA2 (AES)
-change the protocol from 802.11 g/n to 802.11 b/g/n
every time I tried something new I did reset the network settings on the phone turned it off and restarted from the beginning, it always sees the network , connects alright but then internet doesn't work.
I am receiving emails randomly once a day.
The network is fine because on my laptop I connect and everything works perfectly….
Now I’ve called Comcast and they say the problem is the iphone and that I need to set some configuration, but they’ll tell me only if I pay them 79.99 $ (??????????????)
On the apple site there is not an hint on any special iphone configuration for the wifi … Does anyone knows what these special settings are?
Does anyone knows what else I can try?
I don’t want to buy another router …
thanks
