Can i return a game to gamestop as new if the wrapper is gone?
No way man....They will take it as used.....and then turn around and sell it as new. Gamestop is a rip off when it comes to trading and selling games. If you take in a game without the orginal case they will take off credit for that...but then they put it in a Gamestop brand case and sell it for full price.

GameStop sold me a used game when I paid the price for a new one. The case is damaged, and I left the “new” seal unopened. What steps do I take when returning it?
As I understand the question what most likely happened is it was the last copy of a new game. For all games that case must be displayed on the floor and the discs aren't left in them because if they were they would all be stolen. So while the case is out on the floor the disc itself is sealed in an envelope behind the counter and counts as a new unopened game Once Sold until such time as the seal is broken. If the seal on the envelope is unbroken it's returnable as the new game that it is provided it's within the 30 days. If it really was a pre-owned Game then it can be returned within 7 days.And if neither of those is the case then you should probably do what you should have done in the first place and call or visit your local GameStop.Even if they even if they scanned a new copy but accidentally put a pre-owned copy of the game in your bag they can still fix it and it's easy to verify because it would have caused an inventory discrepancy. The store would be over one new copy and short one pre-owned copy versus what they're supposed to have on hand. But once again you need to actually call or go into your local GameStop in order to resolve whatever the issue actually is.

generally speaking the answer is "no" since the merchandise is not from their stock; and you have no receipt. second, the product or "game" could be a copy or malfunctioning etc. so they can't risk it cause the cost would come out of their pockets. your best option is to check private ( non-franchise ) video game stores and ask them if they could "kindly" exchange the game since it's a present and you already got the game... plan C is to look for a friend and exchange the game with one of his used ones, OR sell it to them at a little less the original price if they are interested, then you could chip in the difference and buy the game you want from the store. sorry but these are the only realistic alternatives you got. i hope you can get the game you want :)
