Did you ever watch Mickey Mantle play baseball before he retired?

In the mid ‘60s, my mom and sisters took a train to Utah to see relatives; my dad, brother, and I took the VW bug down from Santa Cruz to Anaheim.I was six and my brother was eight. We looked wantingly as we drove by Disneyland, which we had seen on TV and heard about from friends, but we weren’t going there. We were in Anaheim to see the Angels play the Yankees.Santa Cruz is about 90 minutes away from Candlestick Park, so we had seen Willie Mays. We had seen Marichal, McCovey, Cepeda, Perry, and all sorts of Alous during our trips. We also saw Aaron, Gibson, Koufax and other National League greats play the Giants. But the A’s were a few years away from moving to Oakland from Kansas City, so my brother and I had never seen an American League player in person.Dad was taking us hundreds of miles so we could see the Mick before he retired. We stayed overnight in a motel. One room; two beds. My brother and I implored my dad to not smoke in bed because that’s how Uncle John died. Annoyed, he snuffed it out.We got up early. Dad wanted to get good seats, and we didn’t have tickets yet. Both of us kids were impressed by the escalator that took us up to the second deck of the stadium. Dad bought a program for a quarter, and we found seats.Dad read the program and the loose-leaf line up sheet that came with it. He looked at the rosters and sighed. The Mick didn’t make the trip.

What is the longest answer on Quora that is collapsed because of downvotes?

The longest answer that I have written that is still currently collapsed is this one:David Frigault's answer to Was Eric Harris a psychopath? It managed to get 22,000 views and 191 upvotes, and it contained several thousand words as well as dozens of images. It was collapsed about ten days after it was posted.Other answers I have written that were previously collapsed and were also much longer include:David Frigault's answer to Why is capital punishment not as controversial in Japan as it is in the US?It had roughly 20,000 words, plus hundreds of images and links, and it was downvoted for the longest time before a couple of upvotes finally got it back to its rightful place (top of the answer board). The answer, which talks about the Titanic was also collapsed for the longest time, and it was approximately the same length as the second answer:David Frigault's answer to What are some lesser-known facts about the Titanic?A fourth answer, which was quite possibly the longest answer I have published to date: was instantly collapsed by a Quora Bot, despite having exactly 22,630 words and 148 images. It was collapsed for roughly sixteen hours before it became visible for other users:David Frigault's answer to What is the history of Ottawa?Currently, I have many more articles in the process of being made. Only time will tell whether or not an even lengthier one will get collapsed at some point. If history is to be believed in that it always repeats itself: I guess I will have to give an update for when a new record is made.

Who is sick and tired of Joe Buck and Tim McCraver?

These national people have not followed the smaller city teams they do all they research in the post season so they are in shock just as the world is. My opinion they should let a local guy from each team do the game.

Can Yankees Fans Really Convert to Red Sox Fans?

As a Yankee fan I gotta admit some of that was pretty funny. However, you have WAY too much time on your hands and about 20 more championships to go before you can talk like that. Red Sux fans think they are on top of the world because they win a couple World Series. LOL Winning a couple in 4 years is nothing. Try winning 3 or more in a row first. But hey... it's ok. You gotta learn to crawl before you can walk. But if you ever need to know how it's done, just take a look at the pinstripes because you wont find a better example anywhere. You gotta really be into S&M to be a Red Sux fan. Pain feels good huh? Sicko.

Who is the most charming TV character ever?

John Francis "Jack" Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) - no one else comes close to his wit and charm!  He is the man that every man wants to be and every woman wants to have.Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalbán) - my dear guests, i am Mr. Roarke, your host.  Welcome to fantasy and charming island.Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) - a kind hearted person, with contagious energy that could charm anyone.  Derek Jeter (he was on TV) - who didn't respect and love his charm through his entire classy career.  I don't even like baseball.Barney Stinson - when he wanted to be, but always in the name of sleaze.Quagmire from Family Guy - when he wanted to be, but always in the name of sleaze.Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) - played a kind, caring uncle and at the same time - a lady killer.I don't watch Castle, but he appears charming.

What are some of the changes you've noticed during your time as a baseball fan?

What are a few noticeable changes in the great sport of baseball over the last few decades? There are some excellent answers already; here are just a few more:Infield/Outfield Practice just prior to GametimeOne of the things I always enjoyed was watching as a kid was the players take infield/outfield practice before the game started. They started with a round of throws to first base, progressed to fielding slow rollers, then finished the infield practice by turning two. Then the outfielders would take fly balls and throw to second base, followed by a round of throws to third and finish off the practice with throws to home plate.I grew up watching the Los Angeles Dodgers of the late 1970’s and 1980’s and I remember watching Garvey, Cey, Russell and Lopes practice alignments for outfield throws to all of the bases from Smith, Landreaux and Monday, among others.Back then it was harder to get on base so, you might not actually see a play at third base or home the entire game, but you could see who had the better arm strength during those pregame warmups.BuntingBunting is almost a completely dead aspect of the game today and understandably so.For all the lamenting about changes to the game and how Sabermetrics have destroyed the traditional nuances, facts bear the new age of statistical analysis; it really does not pay to bunt or sacrifice, at least not as much as once thought.Still, there were days when players like Lou Brock, Maury Wills and later, Davy Lopes and Tim Raines knew how to get on base with a drag bunt.Actually, statistics don't really back that up, but at the time, it was exciting to see these guys try to pull a fast one on a third baseman who was sitting too far back off the line.Single Team CareersWhen Derek Jeter retired from the New York Yankees in 2014, it was a big deal that he was leaving the same field he had started and played on for his entire career. (Technically speaking, of course; Old Yankee Stadium had been demolished and New Yankee Stadium built during Jeter’s career.)Even only thirty years ago that was far from unheard of, with the likes of George Brett and Cal Ripken, Jr. remaining throughout their careers with the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. Now, with escalating salaries, team fire-sales and the win-now, dump-the-salary-later mentality of management, a player on one team for his entire career is unlikely to be seen again.
