Does It Bother People They Have To Work Jobs Gone From Home For Weeks At A Time Because While We

Does it bother you if people at work don't like you?

I am an Intern for a county dept in the county I live in. There is this man there who is an Administrative Manager for one the DHR divisions. When he started working in our dept, we had a welcome celebration. I noticed that he kept looking at me many times. I'll admit, I was flattered because he's not a bad looking man. After the celebration, I went to go get snacks, I look up and I see him look away from me quickly. I've seen him look at the corner of his eye while I was talking to someone.

The minute I changed cubicles and moved into room 220 (which has four cubicles) he became close to an Admin Intern. Once I switched desks, he stopped saying hi to me and he would always say hi and laugh to the other intern. They would talk, he would tell her how she struts when she walk etc. Once they became friends he wouldn't even look at me. I wouldn't say I got jealous but I wondered why he wasn't that way with me even before I switched desks. Granted, he would say hi but it wasn't wasn't a conversation or getting to know me the way he did her. Me and the other inern don't get along. I'm pretty sure she told him how I'm not friendly to her. The closer they got the more distant he became towards me.

However, that changed. Now that she's with a different dept (she's still on the same floor, I see her everyday) he all of a sudden started saying hi to me again. He smiles at me too. I found that weird but I still greet him. Why did he act like that when I didn't do anything to him?

Does it bother you that people only call when they need something?

Yeah, I hate that. I've had people not contact me for ages, then out of the blue "hi there" and I'm "what do you want"... sigh... Then there are the ones you don't hear from in years and they decide to randomly add you on Facebook without even messaging you. I always ignore those clowns. What I recently did with a couple of people I hadn't heard from was text message them and if I didn't hear back it was the final straw.... well, you can guess the result...

Would it bother you at all if one of your employees went over your head and spoke with your superior directly about you?

We all contractors work for an IT middleware project where technical knowledge is important. This person ( contractor) has taken responsibility to manage all of us and lead us by answering any technical questions related to the project but he acknowledged that he does’nt have any technical knowledge to help us and he directs our question to some other person. He predominantly does exhibit following characteristics on a daily basis and creates an unhealthy envt. to work.Micromanaging so much that his team has to tell him when we need go to the restroom or take 5 min break.100% Cannot take lunch break if we bill 8 hrs a day 9–5. Or we are asked to cut on our hrs.Calls for a sudden meeting during lunch time.If this person is absent onsite. His team has to check on each other and confirm other’s presence at their desk.Calls for meetings and makes more than 50% of the time to talk about timings and WFH days as his agenda because we are authorized to WFH on 2 days a week. Basically we cannot use the flexibility given as for us he randomly picks 2 days every week to work at home. All others in the project who have different leads have good flexibility and ppl. pick their WFH days and keep constant m. No such restrictions. He will ask to work free on WEs but asks us cut hrs. on weekdays if for any reason we cannot work for few hrs on a day for personal needs. He takes one-on-one’s to discuss breaks and our timings. He is only interested in quantity/ numbers but does not understand quality of work and limitations. He does not stick to his words. We have to stick our butts to the chair through out 8 hrs. Most of the above concerns are expressed to his superior as it's getting too difficult to handle. We tried tell him but he is not bothered to hear us and wants/likes be a control freak.

What do people who work 70-100 hour weeks do in their free time?

I worked in that range during 2 distinct phases in my life. The first was when I was 18-23, I worked anywhere from 3-4 part time jobs at a time for more than 100 hours a week to put myself through college and support my mother while she was fighting cancer.  During this time, my free time was during the day when I was attending school full time and maybe an hour a night after my last job ended around 1am to grab a drink with friends before trying to get 2-3 hours of sleep before my next job begin. The second phase was when I was 25-30. I worked at a fancy ad agency in NYC that required 60 hours a week and then I would put in another 30-40 hours building my own consultancy on the side. Because of the city environment and my body being used to the heavy workload of my college days, I was able to leave my 8am-8pm job, grab some drinks or dinner with friends for a couple of hours, sleep for 2-3 hours and then work from 3 or 4am and on weekends on my business. I remember paying for a gym membership close to my work specifically to be able to take my daily shower in between meetings because time was so tight. There is no free time because even when you are not working, you are worrying about work or complaining about work or trying unsuccessfully to forget about work. You live in 15 minute intervals of opportunity as I called them. It was never what am I going to eat for dinner tonight, it was I have 15 minutes in between this and that, should I eat or should I power nap and grab a cliff bar and a black tea on the way (I am not a coffee drinker). You cannot keep or maintain any sort of personal relationship. Your friends and potential mates will get fed up with you never being available or continually canceling on them for work. This makes you feel even more isolated and depressed than you are but it frees up more of your minimal free time to be alone and puts less stress on social obligations. This probably works out for the best because you are so tired and drained mentally and physically that even if you do have a day off, all you want to do is sleep. Finally, if this workload continues for an extended period of time be prepared to feel the effects of it for years to come while your body, mind and friends try to adapt to a normal life and catch up. I remember one friend saying how weird it was to invite me to "live events" after years of not seeing me and communicating online even though we lived on the same block.

Does it bother you when people stare at your pregnant belly?

ok first of all an 18 year old mother who has a decent job, a steady guy and is going to college is a good thing. and it beats being pregnant at 15 with no job, no guy and no education so to hell with everyone else. second of all yes it does get quite annoying when people stare at your pregnant belly all the time (im on my second pregnancy). just start hoping that people don't start touching it all the time. when i was pregnant with my first daughter i went on a weekend vacation to the shore (at 8 months Pregnant) and when i waddled the board walk people looked at me like i had 3 eyes or something. i guess there is just something about pregnant woman that people can't stop looking at. the only thing i can tell you is to ignore them and if worse comes to worse confront them. but try not to let it bother you

Does this bother you?

Doesn't it bother you that people and even CHILDREN in third world countries are working in sweatshops for places like Walmart. They are LOCKED in a room or are FENCED IN and HAVE to work. With no air conditioning or any kind or ventilation. And are payed LESS then a US dollar to work hard for HOURS. What they are are basically slaves!!! This is wrong!!! Ever wonder why Walmart is so cheap? Because they have people who live in other countries that work for nearly nothing. They live in terrible conditions and have SMALL childeren that have to work with them just to keep living there. Doesn' t this bother you people? Please star this question if you do think it is wrong. So people will be more willing to read this.

Would 32 working hours per week be considered part-time?

It depends on the policy of the company you are working for. Some company's consider anything over 30 hours full time. However, most company's I have been involved with (I am in HR) have a policy that anything less than 40 hours in considered part time.
I am not sure why you are asking, but you should note that while your company cannot use the status of "part time" to justify a lower per hour compensation than a "full time" employee, they can use your designation to determine whether you are eligible for benefits.

Why do people bother working as a salaried employee?

Starting a business is a risk.  Not everyone is a risk taker.  Nor is everyone looking for only a big "payoff."  Starting a company and taking risks is about working like crazy around the clock for an uncertain result.  This appeals to certain people and some people with a special kind of energy are very good at it.But take me.  I'm not that interested in starting a business or taking risks like that.  I enjoy a steady salary and benefits.  That gives me the kind of life I want.  A life that gives me time to read and write on forums like this and persue other interests as well.  But if someone else is passionate about starting a business I'm his biggest fan.

Have you ever quit your job because of the people?

I left my last job because of the people. I was there for 2 years and got promoted to a different department after 1 year. Before I switched departments, I was 'warned' by co-workers about a woman (I can't even call her a lady) that was a supervisor and was told to watch my back around her. I went to the new department with a positive attitude and made sure I did my job very well and got along with the people I worked with. Well, this supervisor HAD to be the center of attention and acted like the company's success depended only on her (yeah, one of those kinds of people). When she saw that others were being friendly with me and that I was getting praise, offered business trips, etc. due to the quality of work I gave, she started doing everything she could to make my life at work miserable. I ended up leaving 9 months later, often regretting that I let one person run me out of that company. However, just last week I found out that that previous employer is shutting down and letting everyone go - evil supervisor included! LOL I don't mean to sound glad that she lost her job, but it feels good to know that I ended up on top! :)

How do very rich people spend their days (if they don't work)?

I get up. I decide if I want to take a bath or not. I decide if I want to drink tea or not. I then decide if I want to send my kids to school or not.If they are gone then I come back to my PC and check my emails and do some basic work.If they are at home I would play with them for an hour or so and then get back to work after we all have decided where we will take our lunch today. If lunch is already decided then I would still go out and get myself some beers and get back to work.If I get time out of my work then I might take a bath at 3PM or maybe I might take it tomorrow. If I am feeling tired but not sleepy I will just order a movie and watch it.If I am feeling tired as well as sleepy I will just go to sleep. If I am feeling energetic I will stick to the work and put in some favorite songs of mine and keep working so I can stay rich.I might even go to office and see how things are going over there. If I am feeling lazy I might just call the office guy and talk to him about how things are going there.I might talk with my main accountant for some minutes, mostly about nothing, as he knows his job very well but he and me have a good relationship and without him I cannot keep up with the shit.I might just feel like going out and living my memorable childhood days so I might go out and eat on streets and drink that water. (Yeah I don’t get BS illness due to bad food or bad water, because I was born poor)I might like to talk to my old buddies then I would call them and somehow we would manage sometime together and talk, talk and talk while drinking.I might want to talk to my client about my new deal or I might want to have some progress report on business then I would do that too.I might even sometimes cook for myself after watching Youtube recipes (hhehehe mostly people say I am good cook but I myself hate it as I want perfection.)I might travel to the country I am seeing on internet. If I see Germany, Germany, Germany for next 1 week and I haven’t been there. Then I might just go and check it out.Last but not the least I might pick up my phone or I might not pick it up for 3 days because I don’t want to.
