Does It Hurt When They Put Braces On

Why does tightening you braces hurt?

Essentially they tighten them to make the teeth move. Your teeth have now gotten used to their alignment and so that's why you have to go back and have them tightened so they will start to move again. It will happen every visit because your teeth will not be used to their new positions.

Does it hurt when they put u braces?tell me the true:(am nervous?

Don't worry, its not thaaat bad. Yes, it feels quite uncomfortable after they put them on, and for the rest of the week, but afterwards you barely feel them.

Once you get used to having metal on your teeth, you can forget they are even there.

As for the steps, I'm not really sure what it is that they do, but there are no shots- I know that for sure! All they do is push on your teeth.

Some people will say it is horrrrrible (my friends did too) so I was really nervous, but when it was over I was like "ok, that wasn't so bad"

People will also say that it hurts a lot when they are tightened. Thats not too awful either. Your mouth hurts for a few days, so be prepared to eat yogurt and ice cream (how horrible!) but its really not bad compared to teeth pullings or root canals (if you've had one of those before).

When you first get your braces on and your mouth is pretty sore, you may freak out and wonder how you can take that for two or more years. I did. Just relax, because after a week the pain goes away, and after you get a few tightenings under your belt they aren't so bad anymore either.

Beleive me, I know braces suck, but think of how pretty your smile will be when they are done! Good luck with braces!

Does it hurt when they first put braces on you?

It took about an hour to get mine put on, and I had them for four and a half years. At first, it was hell, and I couldn't eat anything but yogurt and mashed potatoes for a week because the feeling of braces was so foreign to me.

Four teeth pulled? I had a couple pulled out, and had baby teeth pulled out in the middle of getting my braces tightened multiple times. It's not really a big deal, don't worry.

Getting your braces tightened doesn't hurt, in my opinion. I had oral surgery for an assisted eruption, a chain put on an impacted tooth, etc., and nothing hurt besides the first week.

It's worth it, I promise. :D My suggestion is, on the way home from getting them put on, stop at a grocery store and look in the pharmacy section/toothpaste aisle for something called "Kanka+." You're probably going to get canker sores, and this medication is amazing. It looks like a little vial of syrup, and all you have to do is brush it on the sore and it'll numb it and heal it overnight.

Does it hurt when you get braces put on?

No, it doesn't hurt. People will say it's so painful, but there truly isn't anything in the procedure that hurts! It's just being uncomfortable that is annoying, but there isn't any pain involved. It is very uncomfortable when they use a sort of "tray" type object to hold your mouth open to place the glue on your teeth, but that shouldn't hurt. The only thing that will bother you after you get them on (and after every tightening) is that your teeth will be a little sore for about two days. It isn't painful, unless you try biting into hard foods. I recommend eating soft things like soup and mashed potatoes, just until the soreness goes away.

Here's what they will do when you get there, or from what I remmeber:
You will choose rubber band colors (always fun =] You can get them for holidays or spring/summer colors, or just your favorites...)
They will post probably put the glue on then (which is the most uncomfortable part because of the tray thing =] )
Then they will just place the brackets on (they will apply a little force, which, again, uncomfortable and annoying but not painful)
Then on go the rubber bands...
And then they will thread the wire through the brackets.
They will use a sort of plier tool to cut the wire, which is sort of surprising, but doesn't hurt. They're really good at getting their target :)
Then you're all good. You'll have to brush your teeth cause the glue sometimes gets around your teeth (and it tastes gross, but only for a minute).

So, you have no reason to be nervous! Good luck, and don't mind your sisters. My best friend was trying to freak me out when she told me about them ("they have to use a hammer to get the brackets to set, and then they have to thread the wire through your gums...") Needless to say I was hyperventilating.

:)

You have no reason to worry!

How long does it take to put braces on bottom and top? does it hurt?

I just my braces in today, both top and bottom. It took about two hours for them to put in everything. This is how it was done-
First, he took a "something" to keep my cheeks/lips apart and a tongue stopper to keep my tongue from interfering. Then he stuck a tube in my mouth to suck the saliva out. Unfortunately, the whole process go my mouth/lips REALLY dried up. My lips were even bleeding afterward. Next, he took a brush a and put glue on my bottom teeth. He took tweezers to set in each bracket, and then used a "special light" to help it "cure" faster. These are the words he used, so I don't know what they mean exactly. Finally he put a wire in and snipped the ends with pliers. Overall, the braces themselves didn't hurt at all while putting them in, it was the whole cheek-hold-apart thing and the air-sucking-tube that were just miserable. After a few hours though, the braces started to get sore. They are still sore right now, and the Ibuprofen hasn't helped. They hurt like hell, but the result ( I hope) will be worth it.

How long does it take to get braces put on?

Horrible. I was 12 at the time and I had top brackets on my top teeth except for two on each side for molars as well as bottom ones that went across all back teeth. At the time I first put them on I was not using bands yet. When they were first secured onto my teeth I didn’t really feel any pain at first, but there was a lot of tightness. When I went home, after about an hour or so, the excruciating pain started. It felt like someone had grabbed my teeth and was trying to squeeze them as hard as they could together. It made my head fuzzy by how much it hurt. I tried to eat soft, cold foods since the wire was heat reactive. Just opening my mouth felt like the wires were going to pull out my teeth any minute. After about two weeks there was a different pain: the dreaded exposed wire. I had my braces taken off in 8th grade but I still had dents in my cheeks and scars from brackets and wires taking off bits of my flesh or stabbing and scratching holes into the back of jaw. Wax barely works unless you don’t produce saliva. Pain meds were my best friend. I swear to god I was becoming a pill junkie. And every 4 weeks or so you start the pain over again with tightening wires, new bands, new brackets, or really fun: new wires.I wish I had invisaligns. :/

When getting braces on, does it hurt when they stretch out your mouth with that cheek stretcher thing?

Hey!!!
Been there, done that! Doesn't hurt at all...you just feel a little silly looking like that. (make sure no one gets a pic and posts it online...lol) Just make sure to put some lip balm or vaseline so your lips won't dry out and chap...which will hurt. Good luck!!! You're on your way to a perfect smile

When do braces start hurting?

Braces will start hurting almost right off the bat once they are put on, but the second day was the absolute worst one for me. They will also hurt after every adjustment but this shouldn’t be as bad as the initial pain of first getting them put on. I survived 4 years of braces and it’s a lot more painful than people want you to believe. That’s the cold hard truth, it’s not to scare you, but you should be prepared for what you are getting into.
