Does It Mean That There Are No More Real People In The World

What does "There is no real excellence in all this world which can be separated from right living" means?

In my opinion, we tend to do what pleases us instead of what is right, when faced the choice. For instance, I prefer to stay awake longer and enjoy socialization, while the right thing to do is to sleep on time. Maybe successful people are those who aren't entirely driven by emotions; thus, capable of doing the right thing all the time, in other words 'the right living'.

That being said, the quote is mentioned in "Seven habits of highly effective people" book as well. You might enjoy reading Dr. Covey's idea about it.

Are people in the real world mean?

If by "real world" you mean the adult world, not especially. Unlike high school, people have more choice in who they can hang out with and what they do during the day.

They don't have to sit in class for hours when it bores them to tears, but they do have to sit at their jobs and sometimes do things that bore them to tears.

The consequences of being nasty to others when you're an adult are much higher. Even for something "small", like if you spread nasty gossip at your workplace about your colleagues, other people notice and they trust you less, including your boss. If you beat up someone else, you get charged for assault. So it's not necessarily that people are more mature, it's that they have more choice in what to do. They have actual reasons not to be so mean most of the time.

They can get away from people they hate, knowing they won't be forced to see them tomorrow, and spend more time with people they love. That always makes people less mean.

They also have to take care of their homes now, which means boring chores like dishes or laundry, and paying the rent, but also a larger private space just for you. Well, maybe not at the *very* beginning, but definitely if you get a roommate or get a better paying job.

You're making money, which means that you can do your own groceries, and that's actually pretty nice :D Later on, you can start deciding whether you want to spend that money on a movie, a beer, a new piece of clothing, etc. So people end up making choices that are very different financially and it's reflected in how they dress, what they drive, where they travel or live, etc.

Imagine that school is a narrow corridor. Imagine going down that corridor for 12 years. If you go to college, for 4 years after that, the corridor becomes a little wider. When you leave school to get a job, the corridor becomes a plain and it could lead you to a lot of places. That's what adulthood feels like.

It's not particularly scary, it's just a very different environment. You'll have time to test out what works for you.

Y’know, this is a harder question to answer than it seems at first blush. I mean … who “counts” as white? There’s a whole broad swathe of Northern European types who pretty much have to be in the list, but there’s this broad stripe of folks around the Mediterranean Sea stretching Eastward to Afghanistan and Pakistan who may or may not get counted, depending on who you ask. I mean, “Iran” is derived from “Aryan”. These guys basically invented white! (I’m given to understand there is a lot of talk about this in the Iranian-American community) Don’t even get me started on what to do with Northern Indian populations who are believed to the offspring of dark Dravidian and pale Aryan peoples. Do you count half? I don’t know…My own grandmother always used to insist that her lineage was pure white — “Pura Castellana” she would say about our family. And as the good boy I was, I always refrained from asking “So why do you look like an Aztec princess, Grams?” ;DHonestly, in the end it’s easier to take people’s word on it. Someone says he’s white, okay he’s white. Just … tanned.I know this doesn’t answer your question directly, but it’s interesting to speculate about.

To be quite honest I don’t know the answer nor anybody will know it exactly. There is no scientific way to test it. As a matter of fact every one has their own notation of what is consider good or bad. But there is one thing I know, you cannot expect people to treat you nicely. There are many ways you will get under favor by others. For instead people could mean to you if you’re different from them in terms of what you believe or the way you behave. They could harass you when they are in bad mood. They will think they don’t need to treat you in polite manner when you don’t hold any value they need. If you are minor, majority will consider it is fair for them to derogate you. This world is fill with all kind of evilness. The truth is people don’t necessary think they should be nice, they act based on the inventiveness and motivations toward values they want. You can response the world whichever way you want, but there is something. A lot of people do bad things and don’t bother about it because they think there are a bunch of spoil like them out there. Some people were treated poorly in the past and they decided to throw it back after that. They frequently said,” Everybody does so why can’t I.”

Are all the 'good' people of the world, a "dying breed"?

It is easy being bad or evil. It is harder to be good. Good takes effort and it takes time. We are a society of people who love self/instant gratification no matter what the cost. We are also a more lazy society with our conveniences. This all tends to make being bad very easy.
This doesn't mean there is not enough good in the world. We just have to work hard to be good. There are stories every day about people being/doing good. We see it everyday in our own lives. People holding the door for you. Letting you out on a busy street. Picking up something you dropped and giving it back to you, when you didn't know you dropped it. People helping others they don't know in a crisis. Many of these things the media finds unnoteworthy, so you don't hear about the good stuff unless it is a major story. I understand where you are coming from, because it seems so true. The people who do good are winners and the things they do ripple out and touch so many other people's lives that everyone in the ripple is a winner.
Just thought it was worth mentioning. Please don't despair!

"There is no reality only perception", what does it mean?

I will take a stab at explaining this to you. Let me start by saying that this quote can be interpreted in many ways. It depends largely on what you choose to believe the true meaning of "perception" to be. There are a number of differing theories and definitions. "Perception" is a highly debated topic. I will give you this take on it as it seems to differ from what most people have said so far. Perception and perspective are two different things - very different things. It is an important distinction, especially for understanding the aforementioned quote in the way I am about to explain. Perception is what happens when you use your senses - sight, taste, touch, sound, smell. It is (for our purposes here) pure - objective. Perspective is how you interpret the things you perceive. This happens by using your brain. It includes experience and emotion, therefore it is tainted - subjective. "Perception is reality" excludes thoughtful interpretation. It excludes perspective. Once you add perspective, it is no longer "reality." If something is "real" (truly real) then it must be real for everyone. We all start with reality... when we throw our thoughts into the mix... it is no longer real. Because now it is different dependant upon how it is interpreted. And, interpretation is unique to an individual. Again, this is an opinion based on one set of theories. There are so many. Also, this is a very simplistic explanation of something that is really so much more involved. I could throw in several contradiction to nearly everything I have said. But for the sake of sanity (my own), I won’t :) A good idea is to bone up on some philosophy and cognitive psychology, especially regarding “perception.” Then, you can arrive at your own conclusion with a great number of theories at your disposal. :)

Is this a world of selfish people? a true story?

I think what doesn't make sense is to call the "world" full "of selfish" or any other one kind or people or other.
This place we call the world is quite well-known to be full of a large variety of people, customs, cruelties and kindnesses, adventurers and homebodies, the rich and poor and those in between, many religions, many in spiritual disciplines or freedoms, those who are free and those who are not, those at war and those at peace... the list goes on and on.

I don't understand how this old chestnut of a story can make you think the world is full of selfish people, because even though there certainly are such people, we can't judge the whole world as being full of them. So relax yourself, get off the judgement seat, and hang out with the rest of us 'just folks,' many of whom have heard this story or a version of it for years. There... isn't that much better now? Welcome back!
