Does Nys Pay Me For Doing Some Work In School

Do you get paid for homeschooling your kids?

You do. You receive a payment in joy and a deeper connection with your family. You watch with pride as your child concurs obstacles and challenges. You watch them grow and learn and all the while you are rewarded with the knowledge that you have been instrumental in helping your child to prepare for adulthood. These things are priceless.  As for mere money? You will put out a whole lot more than you bring in but it is worth every penny you invest in your child’s future.I did however teach at a homeschool co-op and received a small amount for each student.

Homeschooling online in NY state?

First of all, you need to look up NY homeschooling laws to see if you're allowed to go to an online school. All I'm required to do is be enrolled in a umbrella school, but laws vary from state to state.

And honestly, no good online school will be cheap.
Schools that are known to be good:
University of Miami Global Academy
K12 International Academy
Keystone High School
George Washington Online High School
National Connections Academy
Laurel Springs

If I live in New Jersey but work in NYC can my kids go to school there?

You don’t accurately describe your tax situation, and if you indeed pay all of your taxes to NYC and NYS, without filing a refund request since you are a resident of NJ, you might have bigger problems than schooling. As it was already mentioned, public school allocation is based on your residence - and you are in NJ and not in NYC. You have the private school route where it’s only about your family settling the tuition bills, and otherwise no questoins are asked. Now, if you are determined to get your child into a school which is outside your zoning, you can certainly start a process. There are always exceptions, and if neither you nor your partner can reasonably make it back in time to pick up your child from school, let’s say it was an emergency closing, then you can make your case to NYS DOE that due to this burden and in the best interest of your child, you simply must have her be in a nearby school.Again, I had not done it myself but I had read about it (at one time I was working in the city as well, and it took a hearty 1.5 hours one-way for me to get home), and I was ready to do it, but I found an option of changing my workplace instead. There could be implications in terms of taxes - since you are supposed to pay only NJ taxes, your withholding for NYC are then refunded to you and you file with NJ state, check with your accountant - so the school could send you a bill (latest case of such situation is here: Parents ordered to pay N.J. school district $55K tuition in residency dispute)As for the real life solution, being next to your child is not exactly what you want - if your job changes, and you go from Wall St area to UES, that would be as cumbersome. Instead, to limit disruptions to your child’s routine, you need to look into the public school that you are assigned to, and ask about aftercare programs: there could be one in school itself or there could be daycare/aftercare programs offered in nearby centers (from daycare centers to even Liberty Science Center). You can also check with your neighbors about it - if there are babysitters, vetted and trusted, you can find one you would like to work with and solve your pickup/feeding/homework troubles.

Is RIT a good school in NY? I can't get into any Ivies but I do still want to go to a recognized/top tier school overall.

I graduated from RIT xx (redacted) years ago and have visited many times over the years.RIT is a great school for engineering and applied science. I can’t really speak to the photography/jewelry making side :) As far as name recognition, not so much (although it has been improving lately with some high profile research). But I can tell you name recognition is only an issue when looking for your first job out of school and RIT has a top notch internship program and there are tons of big name tech firms recruiting on campus all year long. Getting a top paying job offer prior to graduation is easy, easy, easy. The corporate presence on campus is important. They have tons of funding to conduct top-tier, cutting-edge science and they have excellent facilities for grad and undergrad programs. I visited other schools (with my son when he was looking) and some of the student tour guides pointed out that only juniors and seniors are allowed to use the touted high tech facilities. Not so at RIT. Freshmen are thrown immediately in to hands-on course work. The importance of this can not be under-stated. My son was also accepted at University of Maryland, but they aren’t actually accepted into their preferred engineering program until after second year. Until then, students are taking only generally applicably coursework (at UMD). My son ultimately chose Embry Riddle (for Aerospace Engineering) but RIT was at the top of his list. These are the details you need to research in your university quest. Name is NOT the most important thing.Side note about Rochester… It is a great place to live if you can embrace the winters. If winter is not your thing, you can arrange your Florida internships for the winter semester! (or ask me about Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach)Enjoy your search!

Can I drive to school with a Permit in NY?

The only way you can legally drive with a permit is to have a qualified licensed driver with you at all times.

So yes, you can drive to school with a permit IF you have a licensed driver with you when you are driving to school. If you drive at any time on a permit without a qualified licensed driver with you, you can be charged with driving without a license & possibly lose any chance of getting your license then until you are 18 or 21.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
"Additional Details
the first answer is fake. Since I live upstate it says I CAN go to school employment and some orhar crap. That person doesn't know what he's talking about. But thanks for the link. You just scroll down to limited restrictions.

Reread the section you obtained this information from. That ONLY APPLIES TO TEENS WITH A LIMITED JUNIOR LICENSE not an INSTRUCTIONAL PERMIT as you say you have. Under an instructional permit you cannot, AT ANY TIME, drive unsupervised regardless of which part of the state of NY you live in.

How to fill out an IHIP for NY? / Suggested online schools?

You don't do anything -- that's what your parents are for.

http://school.familyeducation.com/home-s...
http://homeschoolnyc.com/homeschooling-t... *click on the one for 9-12 - it's great*

It works the same as it work for a homeschooler... make a list of each class that you plan to take. You should have some idea.

There are some online private schools that are less strict (they don't have class meetings). But I can only think of (off the top of my head of the schools I recommend): University of Miami Global Academy (great school, really expensive), CMA School of Arts and Sciences (definitely affordable), and Orion High School.

My list of schools:
University of Miami Global Academy
National Connections Academy*
K12 International Academy*
Keystone High (lots of people looking for a cheap school choose this one) **
George Washington University Online High School**
Orion High School
CMA School of Arts and Sciences

* - Not flexible/requires online meetings.
** Might require online meetings.

P.E basically works the same way... you usually just keep a log of everything you've done.

BUT.... let me add... if you're enrolling in an ACCREDITED online private school (where you pay tuition), then you're not a homeschooler, and legally, you don't have to fill out paperwork or anything. Legally, you're a private school (as long as it's accredited -- should have the same accreditation a private school in NY would have).

Why do childless home owners pay school tax? We don't use the school system so shouldn't we pay less or nothing at all?

So, I actually am a childless homeowner and I feel that I can answer this question, quite handily.First, at some point, someone came up with the idea of universal, compulsory, primary education. I benefited from this as my primary education cost me nothing. Just as my parents primary education cost them nothing. They then paid into the system through their taxes to help educate me. I feel very strongly that I owe a debt for the excellent quality, public education that I received. So, I have no issue paying my school taxes, whatsoever. I believe that the best way to improve our society is to invest in education. I also KNOW that every dollar we spend on education will pay back 10 fold in the future. Education solves a lot of societal ills that would cost us more in the long run.Second, the idea behind your question is “Why should I have to pay for something that I don’t use?” Well, because there is a fair chance that you will use it some day. Most people will eventually have children. The same thing applies to nearly any government function. The most visible ones would be police, firemen and the military? We tried it your way, where you only paid for those things if you used them, and IT DIDN’T WORK! Let’s say you pay for a fire service but nobody else in your neighborhood does. One day, someone’s house catches fire. But, because they didn’t pay for a fire service, nobody comes to put it out. Well, we know from history what happens next; the whole block goes up. By the time it gets to your house, even though you paid for fire service, the fire is too massive and your home goes up too. So, it’s better if we all pay a little for the service. Otherwise you are essentially at the mercy of the cheapskates in your local area. So, there’s two good reason why you should still have to pay school tax, even if you don’t have kids. The best one though is that making sure everyone is educated is better than living in a society of morons.

I cant pay my school and property taxes, what will happen?

I would contact the town you live in that collects the taxes and see if you can talk to them about your situation. They may be willing to set up a payment plan. Depending on work load, it can take a while for them to track you down...but late fees begin the first day you are late. Better you talk to them now and see if anything can be worked out. If you won't be able to afford payments or future taxes on your property, you'll need to look at selling it before you get too far in back taxes and they come after you and seize anything. Also, you can talk to a tax lawyer...but likely you can't afford one of those either.

Can you hire a teacher in New York state to homeschool your child?

Yes.Homeschooling is quite legal in New York State. There are definitely regulations governing homeschooling. But I know of absolutely nothing that declares who must do the homeschooling. In fact, my Mom (a certified teacher) has twice been offered jobs homeschooling other children. One such circumstance involved children from a single-parent home. Obviously, it is difficult to homeschool and work full time. My Mom was asked to basically become their teacher. It would have involved traveling to their home, overseeing their studies, leaving notes for the parent to work with the children on, and so on. She ended up not taking the job, but it certainly is a viable option in NY.The other time she was asked to take on a homeschooling job was for a family where the mother was undergoing cancer treatments. The family wanted to continue homeschooling, but obviously circumstances were less than ideal. Similar setup, etc - my Mom reluctantly turned that one down mostly due to geography. (It would have involved an hour commute one-way, in a WNY winter.)So yes - most definitely, you can hire someone to educate your children in your home.Believe it or not, my Mom currently does this for none other than the local school district! She's currently a tutor for kids who are unable to attend classes (or were suspended). Essentially she takes on the responsibility for overseeing all aspects of their education until they can return to the school. If the actual public school can hire someone to teach their students at home, most definitely a private individual can!
