Does Obama Realize That Allowing Flights From West Africa Puts The American People In Danger Then

Could Obama use Executive priority to stop flights from West Africa to the USA in order to quarantine the Ebola?

Considering the only case of someone developing symptoms in the USA came from an American citizen who flew to Dallas from Brussels, shutting down all flights from Lagos would not have achieved much.

The USA has implemented the standards recommended by those who know about these things. The same standards implemented across the developed world.
And since we do not have a single case of anyone contracting ebola in the USA it appears those standards are not exactly ending in disaster.

In the history of the planet ebloa has killed fewer than 5000 people, with every single one of them contracting the virus in sub-saharan Africa. Yet 50,000 Americans die of the flu every year. Don't you think some of this mindless panic is getting our priorities mixed up just a little?

Travel bans don't work. According to the WHO and CDC estimates, quarantines or flight interruption would have delayed Ebola spread to the developed world by less then two weeks. On the other hand, closing flights to and from affected countries would have impeded humanitarian and medical response in the affected countries, leading to additional deaths, more rapid Ebola propagation, most likely becoming endemic in neighboring countries, which would have increased the threat of virus re-entry for a longer period of time. (the more people are affected, the more it is likely to spread to someone new: epidemics spread exponentially).Regarding the screening, Ebola becomes detectable by laboratory analysis only after a person develops external symptoms, such as fever. Due to being a BSL 4 biological agent*, performing laboratory analyses on a wide range is impossible and offers no advantage over fever screening and destination/origin of travel control. One of the reasons we are experiencing so many breaches so far is that BSL4 security procedures are extremely detailed and protocolised. This is done for good reasons, but also requires a total concentration on what one is doing, how secure it is and a consciousness that next misplaced movement/attempt to go faster or skip procedure might be the last thing you'll consciously do in your life. Usually a two-three week training course and a couple of practical exercises are enough to get this to a level where it is safe to go into BSL4 zones and operate there. However in the beginning stages without proper training it is too easy to succumb to the "what could possibly go wrong?", "this will never happen to me" or "this never happened before and therefore will not happen to me no matter what" mentality.Which probably what happened to the nurses in Dallas and Spain. The good thing is that it is likely to raise awareness for all the other healthcare workers and combined with proper training prevent such incidents in the future.=================================================* In other words only psychopaths with OCD about desinfection/isolation/protection and PhDs in tropical diseases are allowed to manipulate it in facilities that were build with other psychopats with OCD about layering engineered protections and PhDs in "particularly secure" engineering and cost hundreds of millions to build and millions a year to operate.

How many more infected Americans before Obama bans flights from West Africa?

Aren't you old enough to remember this isn't the fist time Ebola's reached the US & infected Americans?
Because it's not the first time:

'Doctor recalls 1990 race to stop epidemic after infected monkey in Virginia exposed four workers to the incurable virus in real-life inspiration for Hollywood movie'

"In 1989, Ebola was detected in monkeys imported from the Philippines at quarantine facilities in Virginia and Pennsylvania, with no human patients. The following year, the same thing happened again in Virginia and Texas. Four humans developed antibodies, but did not get sick. And then again in 1996 in Texas, monkeys from the Philippines were found to have Ebola..."

How many flights did they ban? What special precautions did they take to protect America?

How long until america causes ww3?

I am an American veteran, 6 years in the US Marine Corps and 5 in the Army National Guard. And I love this great Country and our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence from all other Countries and Governments.

I appreciate your point of view, but I must say you are naive about the forces at work in this world as we fall into One-Worldism; and the New World Order. It's happening, these are historical times. The terrorists are plotting and working night and day to overtake the free, Christian nations starting with America and the United Kingdom.

Don't be naive anymore, the terrorists have a mission to kill westerners and destroy Christianity off the face of the earth. Their mission is to convert every soul to Islam, force people to live by Old Testament law, and to control the large continents and countries, they are determined to control the world - that is their mission. And there are governments and nations backing them that are ready to rule our nations and our people. It may be a rude awakening, but that is the naked truth.

America has a problem with governments that are not democratic; that don't allow natural freedoms, equality, education, a continual food supply, clean water and sanitary conditions, adequate employment, health care, and prosperity to their people. America is usually invited to step in and help, and with that help comes rebuilding, shiploads of trucks hauling food and clean water, medicine, financial aid, and protection. With America and the Allies comes the hope of peace to nations that have warred for a lifetime, relief for starving, shell shocked people and their ravaged, ragged children.

I think America need not show undue humility for our mission or to our enemies. Communism and Socialism put people in bondage to the government, Dictatorships put people in bondage to their govenments. These are our enemies. Americans will not forget 9/11 so that we remain on guard and dutifully protect what is ours and even, what is yours. These are critical times.

Brilliant, committed men and women in intelligence and in the highest places of government and military work to protect America and her people, and you, so that you continue to sleep peacefully at night, and go about your daily activities without the fear of bombs dropping on you.

I would really rather you just said Thank You.

Failing a severe downturn in the economy or a GOP candidate that can unite both GOP constituents and independent voters (and this individual has yet to appear on the horizon) there is virtually no chance that President Obama will lose the 2012 election. While more than a few people are "unhappy" (whatever value that measurement has) with the economy, most realize that changing horses may not provide them with the "relief" that they are seeking.Frankly (and I'm African American) I see no correlation between African American candidates and President Obama's success or failure. If people are inclined to vote for an African-American candidate, they will. If they aren't, they won't. If they use the success or failure of a single politician of one race or another as a yardstick to measure other candidates. then their judgment is suspect and perhaps they simply shouldn't vote at all.The economy was poor when the President took office and may be poor for many years to come. Since he's only a portion of that problem, he can only be a portion of it's "solution." To blame him for the entire economic mess that the US finds itself in is unfair, unrealistic and, at best, a simplistic view of a complex problem.Again, if people blame a single individual for a complex problem, then perhaps they should do their fellow Americans a favor and simply not vote.

Some conservative think the world was created a few thousand years ago. Some conservatives think a girl should pledge her chastity to her father (how creepy is that). Some conservatives think it's OK to murder staff in abortion clinics because killing is wrong (go figure). Some conservatives think gay marriage will undermine straight marriage - one in three first marriages end in divorce and 1 in 2 second marriages. Can't see the gays making that a whole lot worse. So when they tell you Obama made the USA a laughing stock you have to understand they are at the worst lying through their teeth and at the best totally delusional. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but I've travelled extensively and he is very well loved almost everywhere. He's intelligent, articulate, scandal free (and believe me they've looked). He has a great family and fun dogs. What is there not to like? Oh yes that terrible, evil defect. The vile black thing! How dare he be on the world stage with all that 'dark' colour on show? Most European countries have left a trail of crumbs hoping he'll venture our way.Now if we are going to get down to which US President has made the country the biggest laughing stock on the world stage...

How do you justify killing innocent women and children in air strikes?

As noted many times elsewhere, Israel faces a difficult quandary in deciding how best to protect its citizens from the attacks of terrorists whose principal aim is to murder innocent people. The Israeli government believes that one way to reduce the danger is to target the Palestinians responsible for these war crimes. The IDF never targets innocent Palestinians and numerous examples can be cited of cases where pilots have returned to base without firing because civilians were in danger of being harmed. Still, tragedies have occurred in which innocent Palestinians have been casualties of the war against terror.

It is especially because of the concern for the innocent, and the difficulty of targeting terrorists who intentionally choose to hide among civilians, that Israelis debate whether targeted attacks are the best policy. The public overwhelmingly supports the policy to date,38 and only 27 pilots – 18 who are retired – signed a letter saying they wouldn’t carry out missions in the territories. As in an earlier case where a group of reserve soldiers said they wouldn’t serve either, the decision is a political act that has no place in any military, and did not receive popular suppor either from their fellow soldiers or the general public.

The pilots are entitled to their opinion, and to express it through Israel’s vibrant democratic process, but, like other soldiers, their duty while in uniform is to implement policies made by elected civilian leaders so long as their orders are recognized by Israel’s courts as legal. Both Israel’s courts and international law allow for the current Israeli policy.

Meanwhile, the political debate as to the wisdom and effectiveness of the policy will undoubtedly continue.
