Does The Doctor Always Think You Are Drug Seeking If You Ask For A Specific Prescription Medicine

Can you ask your doctor to prescribe you a certain medicine or do they have to prescribe it themselves?

You can always give your doctor a heads up on what medicatos have done well to you. If you mean and former controlled sustances—forget that, they are being withdrawn frompatients in large numers, and they will not bugde. I think it would make the doctor’s help to make a better informed decision on what drugs to put you on if you tod them past successes and symptom cure or palliation. Remember—the doctor is not to be in charge of you—they a just a part of the medical and hospital team that YOU have the right to also participate in and give feedback. I would ask questions regarding any different therapies or drugs with less side effects that may allow you to function when you go back home or to work. Don’t be afraid to speak up—your doctor is probably making rounds on his patients on your floor ad may seem in a hurry. Slow him down and get what you need ordered or questioned. Make sure a nurse is near to write down the order, as she may be writing it as a verbal order, or he may do his own. Health care is no longer what it used to be, and patient’s are becoming more pro-active and educated. Patients are now seen as consumers, and not those to e given true “Hospitality” which is what “hospital” derives from. YOU are in the ultimate responsibility for your health given competent staff. Ask as much as you like, collaborate with past problems and solutions, and make sure, when at home, you make a booklet for each family member with their medications, dosages and times to take, Include vitamins and also your past medical history and allergies—they will love it—but always seem to lose it—have copies. Don’t let anyone intimidate you into doing something you do not want to do—tell them you will think about it when/if your significant other comes. Don’t ask for opioids, but certainly describe your symptoms. Once again, have few expectations they will be prescribed.

Would a regular doctor want to drug test you before prescribing Adderall?

By far, the most common attempts at getting drugs of abuse in my practice have been amphetamine requests.Apparently this is common with other doctors as the routine practice these days is to have a drug contract and regular urine tests. One of the reasons for this is that these have become state requirements (https://dsps.wi.gov/Credentialin... for WI) and there significant interest by the DEA in the problem of diversion of Schedule II drugs. https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.g...34 states have laws regarding these prescriptions http://www.namsdl.org/library/14... with many to follow a this becomes standard of practice. These states monitor Schedule II prescriptions and the doctors who write them. If you have a large number of these written and have not taken steps to deter diversion or abuse, you are in a load of trouble. The best way to avoid this (and make sure that your patients are benefiting from the meds, especially children whose parents are not adverse to make a little money on the side), is to set up a drug contract including regular drug testing.Diversion aside, we test for other drugs all the time to make sure that the patient is taking them on a regular basis (somewhere in the range of 40% of patients don't take meds as prescribed) or that the levels are therapeutic.

What's a good pain medication to ask my dentist to prescribe?

Actually Mandy VZ. I'm not a drug addict. I have to have my wisdom teeth pulled and Vicodin makes me sick to my stomach which only adds to the missery of pain. I am asking first so I know what to ask for from the dentist, because they, like you, just jump to conclusions when you ask them for something else. Labeling people as a drug addict. It's a shame that I can't openly talk to my physician with out them labeling me.
People with your mentality is why there is so much judgement in this world. Do everyone a favor and keep your hateful remarks to yourself!

What reason did you give to the doctor to justify needing oxycodone?

You need to work with the pain clinic. I they are writing for 10/325 perc. and it is giving you g.i. upset then it is the tylenol that is upsetting your stomach. Oxycodone is the narc. in percocet so they might be willing to eventually make the switch to the longer acting oxycontin that your asking about. There is a big difference between the 2 and MD's are very reluctant to put non-terminal people on OC's because of the high potential for dependence and abuse. Maybe change over to your husbands' provider or ask him how he got his, I'm curious about that?
So given the additional info. either keep working with the pain clinic. Your management may just be too much for your PCP comfort and that's why he referred you to the specialist at the pain clinic. I stand by my assertion that it's the tylenol that is most likely to be causing the G.I. upset not to mention it being liver toxic. Most accidental OD from prescribed narcotics come from tlyenol toxicity vs resp. depression from the narcotic. Again maybe change over to your husbands provider/MD, as they must have some comfort level writing for it and managing complex etiologies. Good luck and I wonder if you have ever used sustained release transdermal patches like Fentanyl? Again the pain clinic may start out more conservative than you want but be persistent and continue to advocate for proper management.
