What specific gun legislation does the NRA oppose?

But I'll share my thoughts as well…The NRA is active in monitoring proposed legislation in the federal system as well as all 50 states. They are protecting one of your civil liberties guaranteed under the Constitution within the “Bill of Rights.”I disagree with what others have posted. In my experience as a member of the NRA, they do NOT oppose every restriction on guns. I have found that the NRA is the leader, by far, in gun safety, and sometimes supports additional safety legislation. In the 90s the NRA supported research into ways to have a gun only be able to be fired by it's owner. The NRA supported the restrictions on the sale of fully automatic weapons, the NRA supported criminal background checks, as long as a national gun registry was not created with it.Certainly, as this is one of your constitutional rights, they doggedly chase most of the proposals that would attempt to deny that right to you. They are an organization that protects civil liberties. For example, they are opposed to any revocation of your 2nd amendment rights by depriving you of your 5th amendment right to due process under law. There are many examples of this, but I will use the “no-fly, no-buy” proposal. This is the idea that if some bureaucrat in an office in DC puts your name on a list, you can't purchase a gun. That denies citizens of TWO of our civil liberties. Similarly, there have been proposals to allow the police to search for and remove guns in your home or property if they've received a “complaint”. So, anyone can call 911, say your behaving erratically… and the cops can come search your home and take your guns. So we throw out your 4th amendment and 5th amendment rights, in order to take away your 2nd… Three of your civil liberties in one piece of legislation! That's the kind of stuff the NRA draws attention to and raises money to defend.But just to reiterate… there is no organization in the country that does more for gun safety than the NRA. And they have been known to support legislation that offers greater safety, if it does not deny you of your basic civil rights.

They represented northern business interests, and had to manage a radical wing (called the Radical Republicans) that wanted to punish the South more severely after the war. The end of slavery is a Republican and liberal accomplishment, but then again so is Reagan's decision to trust the evil empire and Gorbachev. The Republicans have done good when they act like liberals, but it's really hard to come up with great examples when they act like conservatives.
