Do cinquain poems have to have a title?

I'm writing a cinquain poem for my language homework, so I sort of need to know. The first line is sort of like the title, I think, but does it still need to have a real title? And are there any rules for that title? Thanks.

How do you format the title of a poem in an essay?

Put quotation marks around the poem's title unless it is a novel-length epic poem, such as "Paradise Lost" or "The Divine Comedy." In that case, italicize or underline the title. Cite the poem with a parenthetical citation if you are using MLA or APA format.

If we had To give the poem another title, what would you suggest? Think carefully about the message in the poem about life BY CHARLOTTE BRONTE

Based on my interpretation of the poem “Life” by Charlotte Bronte; we can also call the poem as “Tomorrow” because when we are living and we found ourselves unable to do anything for the present time, we look forward to tomorrow in a sense that we are still trying to live for tomorrow and that no matter what happens we shall still be able to do something. No matter if the storms come it shall pass, when sorrow comes there will still be a day that you shall become happy and until the last breathe has been drawn, I shall continue to look forward to tomorrow because that is what life is for me.

Why do you italicize poem titles? What purpose does it serve?

It’s to show that it is the TITLE, the core of the poem. If you are writing about a ship sinking, then you call it something like “TITANIC VISIT” Then you write it:It was like a scene from TitanicFelt almost moronicWhere were all the people going to sit?The water was so blackCold rippled up the spines of those who knewOh, so few, so few, so few!“Of what,” asks a little child with red cheeksSo few of the lifeboats, can she swim?On a whim, the sailor jumped inThen the rest followedAnd down went our shipNot just a cool long dipGoodbye like Titanic, part of historySouls floated up, making bubbles like Titanic!

Do you underline or quote the title of a poem?

Generally you underline (or italicise) the titles of books, movies, etc. Likewise with the title of a book of poems, or an epic poem like the Illiad. But for a normal poem, you just enclose the title in quotation marks.

Hope that helps!

How do I punctuate the title of a poem?

You follow the author's punctuation and capitalization. When referring to the poem in text, you use quotations marks around the full title. If it's your poem, use whatever punctuation you like.
