Does The Size Of Your Tumour Change Your Chances Of Survival

Can you survive a brain tumor?

Yup!Depends on the tumor: malignant vs non-malignant, how early it’s caught, and whether it’s encroaching on vital structures or not. This, for instance, is a meningioma. It’s a mass formed from meningeal tissue. These are two different views of the same tumor.See how nice and round it is? We call that well-circumscribed. Here’s what it looks like at autopsy:Again, you can see how well contained the tumor is (it’s that round thing at the top). This is not a tumor that sends tentacles into the surrounding tissue. If you cut it out, you should be able to remove it entirely without causing too much damage. Here’s an example where it such a tumor was removed. You’ll noticed that the “after surgery” picture looks pretty darn good:Now, not all meningiomas are this nice. Some of them can be malignant:But assuming you get your surgery early enough and major structures are not affected, you can live quite a while if your tumor is benign. Now let’s look at something else:This are two images of the exact same tumor: a glioblastoma multiforme, also known as a grade IV astrocytoma. The first view is called T1: it’s better a delineating anatomy. The second view is called T2: it allows you to better look at fluid. You can see that the borders are much less defined. There’s also something we call midline shift, like the tumor is causing so much pressure, it’s squeezing the opposite side of the brain. There is also a lot of fluid around the tumor: that’s the bright area under what looks like the ball of the tumor. It would look something like this at autopsy. Now, it would be hard to remove such a tumor without doing a lot of damage to the surrounding tissues. As you might imagine, the survival rates are a lot lower.Even then, some people will survive… just not very many.

50% chance of prostate cancer?

My Husband is 72 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer 5 years ago and decided to do nothing about other than have monthly tests. He had the choice to have it removed.
In January this year he became very ill and was rushed into hospital with acute renal failure. He was in and out of hospital for the next 5 months and in late June they removed his kidney, bladder, prostrate and lymp nodes all with stage 3 to 4 cancer. I'm pleased to say he is a survivor but just goes to show what could happen if your dad leaves it.

Are bigger cells or smaller cells more likely to survive?

Dumb question.

Your teacher wants you to answer that small cells have a larger surface area to volume ratio, which speeds diffusion of nutrients inward and wastes outward, and mRNA coming out of the nucleus does not have far to travel to reach a ribosome, nor do proteins synthesized on the ribosomes have far to travel to reach the places in the cell where they will be used.

But:
Protists get by just fine with very large cells. Paramecia are really big compared with animal cells. Slime molds are positively HUGE cells!

My dad has stage 4 melanoma. I was wondering what his chances of survival might be?

If it has not gone beyond the lymph nodes then it is stage III. There are several treatments that are demonstrating effective for stage III and IV melanoma patients and many more are surviving.

Do not listen to anyone here about the chance of survival. Survival rates are based on data from completed trials, some going back ten or twelve years. There are treatments today that are much more effective then what they had even a few years ago. I personally know many stage III and IV melanoma survivors, yes some have lost the battle, but many are succeeding.

Is cancer curable with Ayurveda?

First of all What is the Criteria to declare CURE in Cancer.? 10-20 years without any reccurence and No Evidence of the disease since then ,Is it..? My friend you can declare cure in Common cold fever,Jaundice or flu coz the antibiotics given to you completely wipes out those unwanted foreign bodies. But in case of a disease like Cancer CURE is a unrealistic term.I am not dissappointing you, you may or infact people live Cancer free for many years 40-50 years specially small children and its staging. But the point is to declare cancer Cure you need a strong Evidence to prove it,Your CT and PET Scan might reveal you Cancer free but very small nano size cancer cells (StemCells) escape from the CT and are always there in the body. Now How Ayurveda Helps in Cancer Treatment..?Western Treatment Chemo and Radiation target those mutated Onco genes and succeed in killing 80-90 % of the cancer, Now what about those 20%.? These 20 % will harm you at some point or the other. Now here comes AyurvedaHeard of Curcumin.? I am an Indian and it is a very famous spice here.Surf the Internet You will get thousands or research paper demonstrating its effectiveness in stopping those cancer cells invading and metastasis.Infact Dr Bharat Aggarwal and his team in   MD Anderson is working on this powerful spice to create the same effectiveness in patients as seen on mices.Apart from Curcumin,Bromelain,Bereberine,Broccoli,Quercetin,EGCG,Modified pectin and many other herbal supplements have shown strong anti cancer effects in labs and to some extent in patients too. What is Common to all of these compounds..? guess.??They are Anti- Inflammatory..And Cancer is one of the primary cause of strong inflammation  going in your body for  many years. At last I want to say One thing. These Ayurvedic herbs may  not be a complete cure( coz Clinical trials and FDA hasnt declared it yet) but Yess I am a firm believer and witnesser that these herbs will delay your cancer from spreading and eventually increasing your life span for many years.Curcumin and cancer: an "old-age" disease with an "age-old" solution..Curcumin inhibits proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis and metastasis of different cancers through interaction with multiple cell signaling proteins. - PubMed - NCBIGreen tea polyphenols and its constituent epigallocatechin gallate inhibits proliferation of human breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.So many Genes that Curcumin targets. CANCER- You have a "CAN" but you "CANT"
