Does This Sound Like Gout

Does Tums affect gout pain?

The main ingredient of Tums is calcium. Gout is due to excess uric acid in the blood which then becomes deposited as urate crystals in joints, causing pain. Tums or calcium does not really add to gout but rather, an excess of calcium in the body can lead to pseudogout.

The symptoms of pseudogout are joint pain and inflammation, very much like the symptoms of gout. Best to avoid calcium based medications as this can mimic gout symptoms if consumed in excess.

What does gout feel like?

Probably not. Gout focuses the pain on a joint. Pain usually does not move along the length of a limb.

However, if you drink alot of beer, coffee or hard liquor, and you don't drink much water, and you don't eat many fruits and veggies, it could be gout.

Does Kim Jong Un have gout?

Well, yes it actually has been proven on October 11 2014. More plausible – if also extremely bizarre – is the notion that he is suffering from gout. It always seems amiss that anyone who is not a pot-bellied, port-swilling, 18th-century English squire should suffer from gout. The condition, a form of arthritis caused by a build-up of uric acid in the body, is associated with weight gain and the consumption of rich foods (goose and partridge are often mentioned, along with sardines, anchovies and salmon). Excessive alcohol intake is also blamed; and, according to "diplomatic sources" (who don't sound very diplomatic), Kim "likes to drink and party all night, like his father" … who also had gout. The paragraph up above has been provided byKim Jong-un has goutThough they are not sure if he actually has it. There was some other conclusions to what his illness may be. Though, there is hard evidence supporting this theory as well.

When gout is healing does the pain move from your toe to the ball of your foot (underneath)?

I suffered a gout attack from hell a few months ago. Yes, it does move around. The attack kept moving from foot to ankle to foot to knee to other knee. It was horrible.

I did all the diet stuff and kept testing my uric acid levels, and it was always too high, despite getting slim, abstaining from alcohol, and eating a near vegetarian diet. Finally went the allopurinol route. Problem solved.

If you use colchicine, you better stock up. The price is about to go up to $5 a pill.

Why does gout happen in the big toe? ?

Gout is a crystal arthropathy - it causes joint inflammation due to the deposition of urate crystals (related to uric acid in blood). It is well known that gout classically affects the joints in the big toe, particularly the base of the toe. It can also affect most other peripheral joints.

The reason for the big being the most often affected is two-fold - firstly, blood flow tends to pool in the feet in times of inactivity, and hence the clearance of uric acid can be reduced, leading to the higher propensity to crystallise. Secondly (and more importantly), crystallisation tends to happen in cooler areas of the body, and this joint is more prone to cooler temps than most others, hence gets affect by gout more than others.

Toe Fungus or Gout? Help!!!?

The symptoms you have described are a little unclear. (e.g. where is your toe discoloured, what colour, is there swelling/inflammation, how acute is the pain)

Gout is a very painful condition. It sounds similar to what you have. Gout is not caused by eating rich foods. It happens in people who are genetically predisposed to the formation of uric acid crystals in joints (such as the toe).

You may also possibly have pseudo-gout which is similar to gout in symptoms but considered to be a little less painful. It is due to the formation of calcium pyrophosphate crystals in joints. Like gout, the cause of pseudo gout is unknown.

Gout and pseudo gout can both happen as attacks in the middle of the night.

For both, you can try some over the counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) for pain relief.

What you have does not sound at all like toe fungus.

Other possible causes for your pain could be:
- an ingrown toenail
- a broken toe (can you move your toe at all?)
- a toe sprain
- rheumatoid arthritis

If you drink a lot of water, does it stop gout pain?

Yes it will help you! Here is an excerpt from my article on Gout and Water:“Water is one of the best and simplest home remedies for gout. Water burns clean, it’s passed out of your urine, sweat, breathing, perspiring while working and it doesn’t stress the vital organs like the liver and kidneys and so on. Since water can serve as a joint lubricant, one who is at risk for gout should be sure to drink plenty of fluids. Drinking a half-gallon of water a day may keep gout attacks away. The recommended approximate amount is 8–12 eight fluid ounce glasses daily, (a glass/cup consisting of 8 oz. or 250 ml) or about eight glasses. If you’re not sure how much eight fluid ounces is exactly, observe how much by pouring water into a measuring cup.Water will help dilute uric acid, but the real benefit is in its ability to help excrete the acid. Water makes it easier for the kidneys to excrete uric acid and makes it less likely that it will form crystals, thus hopefully preventing the next gout attack. When there’s less water in the body, the density of serum (blood) uric acid rises. Dehydration can also lead to kidney infections, stones and even failure and has been identified as a possible trigger for acute gout attacks. All this can create that excess uric acid that causes gout in the first place.”
