Do people from Turkey consider themselves to be Europeans or Asians and why? What does the rest of the world think about Turkey’s identity?

No Turkish women answering? OMFG. If you’re a woman with origins in Turkey…the most definite answer is TURKEY IS EUROPEAN. Why? It’s Euro-love, which is rampant all over Quora and online. Proof is in the film Kedi, made by a Turkish-born woman, Ceyda Torun. Seen that? Ye Olde Europe is written all over it. Films are directors’ babies, and they portray the director’s vision, aspirations, how they see themselves, and how they want to be seen.I always thought, probably correctly, that Istanbul and Turkey were really at a crossroads between cultures - a mix of European, Mediterranean, Central Asian, Middle Eastern, etc. And it has a culture all its own, too. But Kedi, and its director, wants you to believe differently. In the film, all she’s emphasizing is Europe Europe Europe. You keep seeing sidewalk cafes, and shots of Parisian-like alleyways, and cityscapes that look like Edinburgh, and seaside shots that look like the coast of Italy.I know from Quora that all cultures like to align and be associated with Europe. Sigh. Here’s how the Kedi director, and Turks in general, like to envision their country (very Euro):The Kedi director chose very European-looking Turks to interview in her film. You would’ve thought the film was about Glasgow or Berlin, based on the people interviewed and the cityscapes. She and most other Turks like to think they all look like the girl below:But in reality, Turks and Instanbul people have a more diverse look, with many looking more “ethnic” or “ethnic white” than they’d like to admit:God forbid the good percentage of Turks who look visibly part-Asian. They’ll deny the Asian part to death. Here’s a very Asian-looking Turk:Below are scenes from Kedi. As you can see, it looks very different, and much more Euro, than any random shots of Istanbul in general. It’s how the director would rather envision Istanbul and Turkey, because European what she admires and wants to be seen as.

Do Greek men look Arab?

Funny part is greeks/Italians/Spanish look more arab/persian than turkish do despite turkey being situated close to Middle east.Turkish football team - nobody can pass as arab or persianGreek football team (at least 5 players can pass as arab and some even as pakistani)the reason for this, turks actually never mixed with any middle eastern people they directly barged into anatolia from North asia.you can find millions of turks that look like thisTurkish goal keeper Tolga - a nice blend of Turk (Hun) and anatolianGreece , Spain and southern Europe had long connection to middle east long long before Turks arrived the probable reason why Greeks/Spanish/Italians look more Arab than Turk
