Does Wind Affect Fishing While Fishing On The River

Is WD40 really safe for fishing?

lots of nonsense, lets stick to the FACTS here. First we look at the question, then look at the answers, shall we?

The question made the statement that WD works great for attracting fish. We know that people have made a lot of money over the years selling fish attractants, and we really needn't go down that road, lets just say that the majority of those who make a living from fishing don't use attractants unless their getting paid to do so.

i.e. present your bait well, and you don't have to worry about how it smells other than masking human odors.

Maybe someone can post for you a link to where it is illegal to posses WD in your tackle box, or to use it on any bait you may have, and there you have it. If its against the law, then case closed. Here in California, I cant find it in the regs, maybe someone else can enlighten you.

My main reason for answering your question is because you asked if it was SAFE for the water/ environment.

first link is about Coal Point, which leaks several THOUSAND gallons of oil each day into the ocean, naturally. http://oils.gpa.unep.org/facts/natural-sources.htm and http://www.livescience.com/environment/050203_oil_seep.html
does this affect the environment? you betcha

here is by far the best reference on the subject, and is really quite interesting http://oils.gpa.unep.org/facts/natural-sources.htm
stick with the links on the left, this page is old and many in the main body no longer work.
I swim, surf fish recreate in general in these areas often so it is of particular interest to me.

this is a good source too http://oils.gpa.unep.org/documents/documents.htm

what exactly happens to oil when it comes in contact with water???? http://oils.gpa.unep.org/facts/fate.htm
what we find is that the composition of WD is that half of it is mineral oil, which we learned what happens to that from the previous link.

so what we have to look at is the AMOUNT of WD that is going into our lakes, streams and oceans. I think we can safely say that the amount is negligible due to evaporation and all of the other factors mentioned ad naseum.
Although it is well intentioned, and we should be mindful and vigilant in what goes into the places that we fish, WD is not something akin to, say, lead shot, where it is ingested by animals and creates all sorts of hazards in that respect.

How long does it take for rivers and lakes to unfreeze?

It's been really cold for the past week, and the lakes around here are frozen, as are many parts of the river. I went walking on the river (not too far) and it was solid, no sign of cracks or anything. Someone I know went ice skating on the lake today.

Anyway, it will continue to be below freezing for the next week, but after that there will be a couple of days with 40 degree weather, then go back below freezing again. I'm going away so I won't be back until after those warmer days, should the river/lakes still be frozen after that or will they have mostly thawed?

How did the terrain and climate of mesopotamia affect the way people lived?

It was very hot and dry and it recieved little rain. They were fortunate to have the rivers of Tigris and Euphrates which created levees which provided fertile soil for agriculture and it also created swamps which provided meat and fish and building material. The climate was mainly flat and it was a flood plain. The levees were the highest and safest places.
