Does Your Cat Try To Dominate You

Does your cat try to talk to you?

Verbally - yes. I have two cats and they both have a variety of different meows. And each has non-verbal ways of communicating also. Mostly sitting and staring at me or rubbing against me to get attention.

How do you know which cat is dominant?

They will figure it out and perhaps not right away, especially considering the ages of these two kits.

The older cat may take on the role of teacher for the time being, but that does not necessarily mean she will be the dominant cat.

I had the reverse happen with two males. When I brought home a male kit, my existing one-year-old male took on the role of teacher and mentor, but by the time the younger kit was seven months old, it was obvious that he was the alpha.

The best way to tell which is the dominant cat is to watch them. The lower cats give way to the alpha. They'll stop playing with a favored toy when the alpha approaches, give up a favored seat, even get off of your lap if the alpha walks into the room.

The best thing to do is NOT upset the natural order of things. Let them figure out who is alpha, but make sure there are plenty of good toys and plenty of nice resting spots so that the cat who is not alpha still has good stuff and still gets time with you!

How does your dog try to dominate you?

Thanks for the A2A.My dogs do not try to dominate me. They know who is in charge of this household. The cat is.Seriously, my dogs do not dominate me. I do not totally dominate them either. They do what they are told. They have learned that they get petted and praised when they obey me. They trust me to love them and do what is best for them even if they don’t like it very much.Often, they will give me that look that tells me they want something. As long as they quietly sit and wait, I will tell them to show me what they want. Usually they want to go out to play in the backyard and show me by going to the backdoor. I normally let them because I know they need exercise and to use up some excess energy. I also know they will come running as soon as I call them to come back inside. If I don’t notice them sitting quietly and one of them really needs to go out, they will reach up and put their front paws on the chair arm, the counter or the desk. They do NOT ever jump up on me. They also know not to bark at me. I know their jumping up is a signal that they really, really need to go use the bathroom. They are also naturally protective and will stay close by watching whenever there is a stranger around. I have no doubt that they would intervene if I felt threatened. Likewise, if a storm or fireworks scare them, they come to me for comfort.Yes, my dogs are somewhat spoiled. They are allowed to get up on the bed and cuddle. They do manipulate me in one way. They know that I can’t resist petting them if they come and lean up against me or lick my arm. They enjoy being petted and touched and I have a weakness for puppy kisses, puppy smiles and wagging tails.

Does your cat try to "kiss" and pet you?

It is fairly normal for affectionate cats. As cats greet each other and show affection by rubbing their scent glands at the side of their mouths they are often quite happy to come and kiss us in this way. As she grows up, you will literally be able to teach her more human demonstrations of affection. When I wake up, my cat comes and sits on my chest, where I stroke her face she is learning to stroke mine back, it is soooo cute. When she does this, I tell her "love mummy's face" and she will now sometimes do this when I say this. Even the dog has learnt to do this, but tends to slap me with her paw, not quite getting the whole tenderness thing. I hope you have hours of fun and loads of kisses and cuddles with your beautiful ball of fur.

Why does the dog try to bite me when I go in to kiss my girlfriend?

The dog - whomever’s it is - sees your attempt to kiss your girlfriend as a potentially aggressive act. He isn’t trying to “dominate” you as such, he is simply addressing what he sees as a negative action on your part. He is effectively trying to break you two up, just in case the experience should turn nasty. What you need to do is express to the dog that a) there is no cause for him to worry and b) you don’t want him to exhibit this behaviour. You can have some fun with his training, as it is going to involve kissing your girlfriend a LOT. lol What you need to do, is whenever you are about to go in for a kiss, make sure that the dog is sitting and paying attention to you (or your girlfriend, if he’s her dog). Every time he moves to come closer, you stop and hold up a hand in the “no” indication, say “no” in a firm but not aggressive tone and place him back in the sitting position. Then you go again. Eventually, you will be able to get away with a quick peck of a kiss without him moving - in which case you both must congratulate him and go crazy with happiness, telling him he’s such a good boy, no dog has ever been such a good boy and give him a treat. Continue on with this sort of training and before you know where you are, he’ll be wanting you to kiss her. LOLReward the behaviour you want, correct the behaviour you don’t want.

How can i show my female cat ...that i am the dominant one ....(the most helpfull gets Best Answer)?

I have 3 female cats, one of whom is very aggressive toward my two friends/roommates.

She will bite, meow, rapidly shake her tail lol.. when someone she doesn't like is around. She isn't that way toward me though. But my roommates are scared of her. It's not uncommon when I hear one of them say "Kel, hurry... Taco is being mean!!" ..Taco is my cat's name. I must then move her away.

Anyway, Taco use to be aggressive toward me a while back. She also thought she was more dominant than I was. Everytime she would meanly meow at me, I would say "NO" or in a mean tone "Don't you dare meow at me!" lol it sounds silly, but it helped. I would also push her away while I was saying it. Not in a way that would hurt her, just in a way that means I am in charge. After a few weeks of that, she never got mean toward me again.

My roommates, however, are too scared to do the same thing. Taco will swat at you if you get too close. I wasn't scared of her swatting me. In fact, she did. But I wasn't scared, and she knew that. My roommates are scared, and will back away from her. In her little kitty mind, she thinks she has 'won'.

So be fearless. Wear a long sleeved shirt or a hoodie, with some gloves and tell her "NO" and push her away when you do. Keep doing that until she realizes you are not afraid of her, and that you are in charge.

Good luck.. don't give up on her, deep down she does love you ;)

How can I show dominance over my cat in order to be treated with more respect?

In my experience, dominance and cats do not go together.  You do not get respect from a cat by treating them like a dog, you get it for treating them like a cat. Think about what your cat is doing and why they're doing it.  You may need to simply observe for a while, especially if you've been treating your cat incorrectly for some time by trying to exert dominance over it.  Your cat knows that you feed it and that you change the litter in the litter box, and over time that can win over any cat with the right approach. When your cat comes over and rubs against you, do you rub him back?  You can't really groom your cat the way he'd groom you, but you can pet him and scratch him where he likes it.  If he kneads you that's good, because it's a way for cats to show affection, but if it gets painful just gently take him off your lap or wherever he happens to be and pet him.Sitting on your keyboard is another way for cats to show affection. When your cat wants to play, do you play with him?  Playing together is a great way to bond with your cat.  If kitty play-scratches you, try to shrug it off.  The cat has no way of knowing that it hurts you, and if deterrence comes in the form of you yelling at him, then he'll learn to avoid you.  My hands are pretty thick-skinned, so I really don't pay much notice to the play-scratches and he's never drawn blood. If you need to deter your cat from doing something, like not using the litter box or scratching the upholstery, try using a spray bottle.  If the deterrence comes in the form of you yelling then that's not an effective deterrent, since the cat can tell when you're not around.  A spray bottle out of nowhere doesn't look or feel like you, so the cat just assumes it's related to the activity and not your presence. And before you know it your kitty will be happy, cuddling with you, and generally behaving pretty well for a cat.  Cats are very low-maintenance, they just require the right approach. Purr purr purr.

How do you prevent your cat from urinating all over the house?

Kitties must have reasons they are doing it even though you made proper litter box. Did you already provide your cat with the proper litter box? If you did not, it is not cat's fault that he will urine freely in-house as a cat is not human to use the toilet and flush it down.Be careful when you make litter box, make it sure to be cleaned daily, no perfume, proper size, and enough amount of litter in it. Do not forget to put the box in private area which meant a place where is not always crowded in the home. Need a spare litter box for emergency case. Now there is a real problem. What if your cat denied to use even the proper litter box and continue urinating all over the house?First, you must take the kitty to the vet for a checkup. Loose urine is kind of sickness sign.He may be sick with urinary tract diseases and infections. The vet knows best about this cases. If the kitty is all fine then must be the old habit that will not die easily. Then it is your part of patience and takes time. First, clean the pee attacked areas with pet order neutralizer which is actually enzyme based because enzyme digests urine scent. It is necessary because the less his pee smell in the home, the less he will pee on that area because cats mark their territory with their scent and repeat the urinating process on exact same places as long as their smell continue there.Never use normal detergent and cleaners because they are ammonia based. Urine contains ammonia so that will encourage them to pee in that area more.Sadly, do not let your cat in the bedroom while training period for making sure he does not get a chance to spray pee on the bed. There are some more simple ways to stop your cat urinating all over the house. Calm mind and time is important. Trying on them by force will not give anything benefit.

Does your cat try to destroy your house too?

No, not at all. I am prepared fro any animal I have. For kittiedI have the kitty condo with catnip toys. I have floor scratch pads for them also to scratch on. I have fresh water out for them and since I know cats are grazers, i leave out some kibble so they caan munch during the day. They love to get up high and look out the window at the world and what is going on….Their litter box is alwys kept clean, no one wands a dirty litter box, so it’s cleaned each morning and night, and I have a buddy for my kitty so if they chose, they can play together. Otherwise, think about it…..How boring is your cat’s life? It’s up to you to make it a good life….Watch animal planet, My cat from hell….He helps educate the human not the animal to give their kitties a wonderful life and he is so very sucessful…Mostly, it is just common sense, but a lot of people lack common sense.
