Dog Has Cut In Eye And Now Possibly Infected

How do you treat an eye infection in dogs?

Almost any infection requires treatment by antibiotics. Especially in a soft mucus membrane area like the eye, mouth, ear, nose, etc you really don't want to let an infection try to resolve itself. Your ver can best diagnose and treat your dog. Most likely they will recommend a compress twice daily followed by antibiotic eyedrops. For more severe infections they will recommend the compress combined with flushing as well as an oral systemic antibiotic like doxycycline. For really bad infections or abscesses they may go for azithromycin or amoxicillin. But since you asked allow me to elaborate on what will happen if you attempt to treat the infection at home or let it resolve itself. Warning: gross pics incoming. You choose to opt for homeopathic care in lieu of expensive antibiotics. Your dog’s eye does not improve. One day your dog is fussing with his face and you chalk it up to itch from the infection. You go to work and when you return you notice this:An abscess. This happens when anaerobic bacteria gets behind the eye, and is allowed to cultivate in an environment perfect for them. Pus and other fluid accumulate but being behind the eye it has nowhere to go until your dog fusses with it.Now you MUST go to the vet. Pay out of pocket for surgery to drain the abscess and restore the tissue and then continue a lengthy antibiotic course to prevent the abscess returning. How much will it cost? On average it seems it can be roughly $700–1000 or more depending where you live. How much will this course of antibiotics cost if you go now? Far less and you don't run the risk of your dog getting a systemic infection or losing her eyesight.

My dog got cut in the lower eyelid at the groomers. What should I do?

I just brought my dog home from the vet yesterday after minor eyelid surgery. She had been showing watering, redness and swelling in her right eye. Last week, the Vet gave her an ointment and I took her back yesterday for an eyelash plucking, because some of the eyelashes were turned and growing inward, and had scratched the eye and eyelid.Vet left her on the ointment due to possible infection. I'm not sure the liquid bandage would be the best idea for the dog due to the possibility of infection. I think, if it were mine I'd take it to the vet to rule out any complications./, and for the safety of the dog. If there are complications, I'd put my groomer on notice, and keep good records of everything as it goes down I think the groomer would be responsible for the damages. You have every right to have the dog checked, since the groomer is not a vet, and possibly didn't provide adequate treatment. you need to do what you do quickly, though to assure the dog's best interest and to establish proper liability.

Black part of dogs eye turning white, HELP!!!?

My dog has this lump under his eye (pictures)?

I plan to take him to the vet very soon but do you have any idea of what this may be?
He's a small dog, I'm not sure what he is though.

The lump developed a few days ago. At first it was just swollen and then it got really hard
like a scab and I guess he scratched it because now it's pink like when you take off a scab.

I've only seen him scratch it a few times and he's been acting normal.
He eats and poops the same as he always did.

Dogs eye is leaking green stuff?

Wash your hands, and use ONLY sterile saline solution from a *new* bottle - no Visine or any other additives.
It will also help to put a warm- not hot- compress made up of a folded up paper towel soaked with warm water on it every few hours. DON'T use it on more than one eye, and wash your hands very well up to the wrists after doing that, or you could give him an infection in the other eye.

Put a capful of bleach in the sink, half fill it, and wash the washrag you used on him - that is now infected, and you don't want that sitting around with germs on it. Just bleach it and then rinse well, and toss it in the washing machine for the next load. From now on, only use clean paper towels fresh off the roll. If you have any disposable gloves, that's never a bad thing either, but you won't get the infection- it likes dog eyes only. You still don't want to spread those around...

He really needs a veterinarian as soon as possible, but if you cannot afford an emergency vet visit (about $100, or $50 over the normal cost), warm compresses will help until the morning.

Don't put ANYTHING else in his eye - no antibiotic ointment or old eye drops left over from anyone else, or any allergy drops - the last thing you 3want to do is to make it worse, and you can easily do that.

If you can possibly get him to the vet today, do that - it is worth it, as he definitely has an infection, and could lose the eye if it goes untreated.

I think that my scratched my dogs eye as they play all the time and now my dogs eye is swollen. Any advice?

I made vet appoint but my husband is saying she doesn't need to go but I have a friend and her son lost his eye over playing in sand box and getting infection from cat poop. Does anyone know what possible deseases it could have and the prognosis to help change my husbands mind.

My cat's eye has blood in it?

my cousin is in vet school at Aubrun and he said it sounds like the cats third eyelid got stuck, and did not go back into place.

he said that the way i described it to him sounded like that.

other than that, he said my dog possibly could have scratched it.

we dont have enough money to take him to the vet this week, but we are deffinatly going to try to take him and see if there is a way to get him treated. <3

Can I use Terramycin on a dog? More details inside?

Terramycin
(oxytetracycline hydrochloride)
Antibiotic
Ophthalmic Ointment
with Plymyxin B Sulfate

I got it for an eye infection for my cat a few months ago and now my dog has an eye infection. It looks much different, but it's oozing mucus. I would like to see if I could try this to see if it can help clear it up, if I use it and it's not better in a day or so, I will take him to the vet.

The insert doesn't say anything about feline or canine use. Just "animals".

Thanks in advance.
