Dogs Got Into Something .

I think my dog has something in her ear (some kind of bug?).?

Hi Kara

I do come across pet guardians whose pets was diagnosed with ear infections without the typical signs presented (such as scratching ears, head shake, smelly ear etc). Maybe the vet detected the condition in its early stage where the physical symptoms have yet to manifest.

A dog with ear mites usually has a black ear discharge that looks like coffee grounds. It scratches and shakes its head due to the irritation in the ear canal. Ear mites usually leads to secondary bacteria or yeast infections.

Ear mites are v tiny bugs which u can't see with your naked eyes. It can only be detected with a microscopic examination of a sample of the dog's ear wax.

Aside from the possibility of mites, any chance a foreign body got into the ear? Grass seed, sand, pet's fur, hair that grow inside the ear canal... etc

Remember your dog has a L-shape ear canal, so u can't see beyond the bend of the ear canal.

If u have a otoscope(some family has this instrument bec they use it to check their children's ear), you can look into your dog's ear canal to check for foreign object.

The fact is, we need to know the cause of the problem before applying treatment options.

Keep a close watch on your dog's behaviour and the condition of her ear. See the vet if the problem remain unresolved.

Best wishes to you and your pet.

Something is bothering my dogs ear?

Today I took my dog to the dog park that we always go too. As we were getting ready to leave he stopped walking and started to scratch his ear, which looked normal. It appeaed as if he just had an itch. Instantly after that he started whinning like something got into his ear. It's been all day now and he keeps scratching a his ear and shaking his head like it's itchy or something is stuck. I looked in his ear it looked normal didn't see anything inside. I went to the pet store and got some dog war cleaning solution and put some in his ear. It has only been a couple of hours but his ear is still bugging him. I'm wondering if this is something that may just be better by morning and what could possibly be wrong. I would call the vet but they are closed on the weekend, and I'd imagine they are closed on labor day too. I know this was caused by something a the park because before the park he was completely fine.

Pregnant dog not going into labor? IS something wrong?

2 yr old lab - breeding dates 8/20 - 9/4. We've had her to the vet last week - as we've had 2 temp drops to 98 - but then a return to 99 - 100 temps. We had to change vets recently - so I don't have the confidence I had in our prior vet (lont time doc for our dogs) -- anyway - x ray on 11/2 showed 5 pups. She has had full teats since 10/28 (over 2 weeks). The vet told us to just 'let her go, she'll probably deliver by the weekend - she won't be too far past what her due date should've been" -- She still shows no signs of labor whatsoever - in fact, I'd say her vulva has become less soft then it was before. The only changes we have noticed is she has vomited about twice a day over the last 3 days and she takes her back leg and scratches at her head (like CRAZY) - OR - she chews at her legs. This is her first litter. I'm just wondering if my 'worry' is justified or is this just a side of whelping I've not been exposed to? Any help or thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

My dog is losing hair after getting in the insulation under our home, what can we do?

She might have allergies. My dog has skin allergies, and when he gets into something that triggers them, we have to take him to the vet to get an allergy shot. The insulation, can make humans itch if it gets on your skin, so im wondering if she got into some insulation, and now has this problem. If she is scratching the areas where the hair is gone, then deffinatly thats what it is. The hair will fall out, because they scratch at it so much, and she is scratching because of allergies.

Can you wash a dog with dish soap?

Edit: The below is my response to a comment I received telling me about the danger of using undiluted dish liquid on a dog. It contains ingredients that can be corrosive at high concentration. Since a lot of dish liquid is heavily concentrated, this is a real concern I wanted to reflect. I’ve deleted my original answer because I thought it might be confusing to some people.I completely understand that you’re trying to help get people the right info. I agree that using Dawn on a dog is a last resort option; there are much better alternatives out there.I’m just saying that using heavily diluted dish liquid once in the dog’s lifetime isn’t going to cause lasting harm. I’ve been in this situation before: I was pet sitting for a family member, the dog rolled in something awful and I had no dog shampoo. I used a bit of Dawn dish liquid (very very diluted with water, not dumping the soap directly on the dog) to get her clean enough that she wouldn’t track the mess everywhere. I bought moisturizing wipes to help her skin in case the dish liquid had dried it out (and dog shampoo, just in case) the next day.Bottom line: it’s not the best option, but if you find yourself with no other alternative, make sure you dilute the Dawn dish liquid A LOT before putting it on the dog and keep it out of their mouths/eyes/ears.

Any suggestions on helping a dog (Lab) with a sick stomach.?
