My score in ssc cgl 2017 tier 2 english is 190. So, I am sharing my strategy here. And I will try to keep it short and simple.The most important thing candidates miss during preparation is that in tier 2 a major portion of english does not depend on the rules and regulations. How much time do you take to calculate the result of 45+55? You get it just by looking at the numbers. You do not think again and you do not doubt the result. So, why do you think you get it with such an immense speed? Simply because you are doing it from your childhood. If you want to improve your english, you cannot remember the rules and apply effectively. I read english newspaper everyday. But I read it in a different style. I focus on how prepositions are used, how articles are used, how different sentences are written and many more such things. I never write vocabulary and one words from the newspaper. I just check words in the dictionary, and then move on. After reading newspaper consistently for one or two months, you will realise that you have remembered many words. And now you are getting words and sentences repeated in newspaper. Reading newspaper will also help you in paragraph, cloze test and PQRS.Active/Passive and Direct/Indirect are scoring ones. Less rules but around 25% of the marks are allocated to this section.One word, Idioms: SP Bakshi is best.Error Spotting: Previous year questions and newspaper reading.Fill in the blanks: Depends on how well you have prepared other sections.Finally, scoring 140 marks in english is not a tedious task. The real difficulties start from here. Every 10 marks above 140 will test your command on english. Rules will take you to 140. Rules will make you an average scorer. But scoring exceptional marks, you need to make english flowing through your body. If you reach a level where you figure out answer instantly, but still you do not know the rule behind it then english has been absorbed in your blood just like maths. Never bother about rules.Just read, read and read. But read with open mind. It will help you in descriptive also.English is not about rules.
