Drinking And Blood Test

Can you drink (soda) when your have a fasting blood test?

You may have nothing after midnight for a fasting lab. (Aproximatly 8 hours)

Can I, at least, drink water while fasting for a blood test?

Every time I have been told to fast for a blood test, I have also been told to drink water. Water does not change your blood sugar or blood lipid levels. Drinking adequate water does make it easier for the plebotomist to draw blood, so it is encouraged.

Can I drink any alcohol the night before a blood test?

I am having a blood test done by my doctor Saturday morning to test some hormone levels. I am going out tomorrow night and wasn't sure if it would be ok to have a couple of drinks or not. I tried looking this up online but everything I found was about having blood-alcohol tests done, which is not what this is. I've hardly ever had blood tests done so I have no idea what's ok, so any advice is appreciated. I will probably call the doctor tomorrow, too. Thanks!

What can I drink prior to fasting blood work?

When you are having a blood test you cannot eat anything 12 hours before the test. NOTHING!! The only thing you can have is water. That is it! And it is better to drink water before it makes the test easier for the tech to find the vain. If you eat before the test you will have to do it again it . The test will fail! Also if you are on meds take them AFTER the test.

Drinking alcohol the night before a fasting blood test?

Fasting means no food of any kind including liquid foods such as fruit juice and also alcoholic drinks that contain carbohydrates and some other nutrients.

You can drink water after midnight or even at 7 am or 8 am or even later before the test.

As long as you stop consuming alcohol before midnight you should be OK. After 9 hours there should be no alcohol left in your system unless you had more than say half a dozen standard drinks. If you stop drinking at midnight your body can still continue to absorb alcohol for up to 3 hours until 3 am and after that alcohol is dissipated at the rate of one standard drink per hour so if you have more than 6 standard drinks up to midnight there might still be a bit left in your system at 9 am so you must not have more than 6 standard drinks up to midnight.

Can you drink beer after having blood drawn?

I have a doctor's appointment this Saturday, and will have to have blood drawn. However, there is also a country concert on that same day, that starts around 4, and I was hoping I could drink before it. Would 7 hours after having blood drawn be enough recovery time to allow myself to drink and wouldn't cause too much health problems?

How do i get rid of alcohol before a blood test?

From the net:

On average it takes about one hour for your body to process one unit of alcohol. This varies depending on your body size, sex and the amount of food in your digestive system. If your liver isn't functioning normally, the process takes longer. One unit of alcohol is roughly equivalent to half a pint of beer, a 25ml (pub) measure of spirit, or two-thirds of a small (125ml) glass of wine. This means that one pint takes your body about two hours to break down, and a large glass of wine (250ml) about three hours - longer if the ABV (alcohol by volume) content is higher than average. So if you have seven pints during a night out, it could take as long as 17 or 18 hours to leave your system.

It's very important to think about how long it takes your body to process alcohol before doing activities such as driving or operating machinery. Even if you feel fine the day after drinking, you could still be over the limit. The legal limit in the United Kingdom is 80 milligrams of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of blood in the body.

To avoid putting your health at risk, women shouldn't drink more than 14 units a week, and men shouldn't drink more than 21. Nor should you 'use up' all your units in one go - women shouldn't drink more than 2-3 units a day, and men should limit themselves to 3-4. Is it bad to drink alcohol after a blood test, serious answers only please?

It's certainly isn't dangerous, especially for such a small volume of blood and it will be perfectly ok for you to drink (within the normal limits anyway).

Even after donating the normal pint of blood, the volume of blood is actually replaced from the tissues within a few hours, the red blood corpuscles obviously take longer to replace but those don't take any part with alcohol consumption, you blood will still carry the alcohol to your liver regardless and with no loss of efficacy.

Can you drink alcohol before a cholesterol blood test?

Absolutely you can drink alcohol. Beer, wine, whiskey, or even straight grain alcohol can be consumed at a rate which would knock out an elephant. But, if you want to know it it would affect a test result a simple call to the doctors office can answer that question easily and directly. But why would you do something like that when you have access to a large group of people with or without medical training that have no idea who you are or why the test was ordered. Good luck with that.
