Drinking While On Zoloft

Can i drink one beer while on Zoloft?

I've been on Zoloft for a couple years now for anxiety. I don't suffer from depression in any way.. I've heard you're not supposed to drink alcohol while on this medication and ive also heard that its ok to as long as you dont over-do it because one beer could feel like 2... So would it be ok to have a beer or a glass of wine while on it?? Occasionally of course... like once a month, if that haha

Is it okay to have a few drinks while taking Zoloft?

Can I Drink Alcohol on Zoloft?
According to the Zoloft® (sertraline hydrochloride) prescribing information, drinking alcohol while taking Zoloft is not recommended. Zoloft and alcohol act upon similar chemicals in the brain. So the concern is that Zoloft will increase the effects of alcohol -- whether this is increasing depression symptoms or affecting motor skills.

Practically, when many healthcare providers are asked whether or not it is okay to drink alcohol on Zoloft, they make the following recommendation: If a person chooses to drink alcohol while taking Zoloft, he or she should only drink light to moderate amounts -- and only after he or she understands the effects that Zoloft (and other medicines he or she may be taking) can have on the body.

Can you drink while on Zoloft?

Alcohol and Zoloft may work against each other. Zoloft is a mood elevator. Alcohol, in some people, can be a mood depressor. Not a good idea to combine them.

Can i drink alcohol while on Zoloft?

I have been suffering from severe panic attacks for the past 3 months and my psychietrist has perscribed me Zoloft.

The thing is,
My formal is next month and new years is coming up and this is the first year that my parents are letting me go out all night to the city with my mates..
I won't be fully drinking, Like i wont drink so much that i'll pass out or anything.
But is it that dangerous if i have like 4 beers while on Zoloft?

Have you drunk alcohol while taking zoloft?

yes. i drink regularly and have been using zoloft for years.

i find the difference for me is this. on zoloft and drinking, i get very drunk quite quickly and extremely tired. when i wasn't on zoloft, i could stay out easily til 3 or 4 in the morning. now, if i'm drinking, i feel lucky to make it past 1am. (although it could be that i'm getting old!)

something else happens too. i have very vivid dreams on zoloft. if i fall asleep drunk, i will continue my 'night out' in my dreams. the next morning, i'm not sure what was real and what i dreamt. i find that a bit scary.

otherwise, i haven't had any other issues. i would suggest to you, probably don't go out and get drunk, but just have a few drinks to test the water and see how your body tolerates it.

Can you drink alcohol while your on Zoloft?

Im in college and i was just prescribed the lowest dose of zoloft (25mg) and well i am in college so i do drink on the weekends sometimes. If i drink while I take the Zoloft will it make me really sick? Is it like taking antibiotics where just a couple drinks can make you very sick (throwing up and stuff)? I just hate throwing up and feeling sick, i dont want the zoloft to interfere with drinking.

Im aware that the alcohol will "cancel" out the zoloft, but im just wondering if it makes you feel sick?

What happens if you're on zoloft and you drink?

Alcohol is a depressant just to start with, so of course you would be defeating the purpose of taking your medication and become more depressed. To drink while on any medication eliminates the medication and one must begin all over again. If you really want to get well, alcohol is not the way to do it. Try and find something else to enjoy, and I don't mean drugs. If you cannot enjoy life and must drink to change how you feel, then I would suggest it's time to get into some recovery program or see a counsellor. Take care, and good mental health #1

Can I drink alcohol on Sertraline (Zoloft)?

Sertraline is an anti-depressant that acts on the central nervous system (CNS). Alcohol is a CNS depressant. It is warned not to drink alcohol while taking an anti-depressant, because the alcohol cancels out the effect of the medication, causing it to be ineffective. The effects on the body may vary, but overall, stay away from alcohol as much as possible while you're on this medication (and any other that involve anti-depressants).

Is it ok to drink alcohol while on Zoloft (Sertraline)?

The reason why alcohol must be avoided is not because of its incompatibilty with that drug but the adverse reaction to the condition it's treating. It is advisable not to drink alcohol while taking it Cos alcohol will lessen its effectivity and by the time you finish the procedure of taking antibiotics, the infection will still be present thus the infection is difficult to treat and is very resistant to antibiotics.

What you seem to have is Gastritis. Gastritis is a condition where the mucus like walls of the stomach have been irritated to the point that they are inflamed and in some cases bleeding.Alcohol is an irritant, as are coffee and cigarettes. Certain medications such as aspirin and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen may also cause gastritis. In general, social drinking will not cause gastritis – a large quantity of alcohol, acutely or chronically, is needed to cause the inflammation of the stomach lining.Alcohol destroys the stomach lining and it is directly absorbed. Alcohol causes acid to form in the stomach.Check this site for information http://alcoholhelp.co.uk/general/2010/06/illnesses-related-to-alcohol-abuse/

The treatment for this is to eliminate or stop drinking alcohol. No alcohol in the stomach means no continuing irritation of the stomach lining, and a gradual healing. Gastritis alone is rarely a serious condition.
