Drum Corps International

Is Drum Corps International Rigged?

Nope it's just that The Blue Devils are miles ahead of everyone else in terms of ability and talent.

Do people get paid for being in DCI [Drum Corps International] ?

No actually it's quite the opposite. Corps charge tuition to march with them in the summer. Most corps today are between $1000-$2000 for the whole summer.
But you get paid with lots of experience, and a hell of a lot of fun

What channel is Drum Corps International in?

For you marching band chums.... I just wanna know what channel was it in directv even though it finished. But idk if it was on a channel. Someone point me in the right direction?

What is Drum Corps International history?

DCI has obvious roots in military bands and the Marine D&B Corps. That's pretty evident in your first weeks of training rehearsals.I’d have to go check Drum Corps International: Marching Music`s Major League myself for more of Michael Boo’s history lessons to share more here, though.

How time consuming is Drum Corps International?

Long answer 1:
I would probably day that DCI isn't not time consuming off season because you have weekend camps once a month because most of the corps members are in college, some are even in high school. Starting in late May, the corps do something called move-in (this is when DCI starts consuming time). That's when a corps start corps camps at a high school or college for about 2 weeks to prepare their show for the tour. When tour starts, you are traveling all over the place, week after week. If you get lucky, you will be able to sleep on a gym floor for a night before busing it out to the next city for performance.

Short answer 1:
Before late May, you have plenty of time. Starting in late May, you are with your corps until the end of the summer, literally. If you make it into a corps, you can not do other things during the summer.

Longer answer 2:
Well it truly depends on the corps but if you are trying to march World Class...It's going to require some serious skill. As Open Class, a great amount of skill and serious practicing will get you in. I only know two people who made it into a World Class corps, but they are beyond good. One is my director, who played snare for The Madison Scouts back in '05 and the other is my band's trumpet section leader who just received a contract for the Scouts this year. Both are leaders and extremely good players
Another way to look at things is that the corps put a full show together with 4 weekends and two weeks of preparation and one of those weekends were dedicated to mainly training your body for the massive and painful work to come when the summer starts.

Twitter really good source...Keeping updated and "staking" your favorite corps also helps with learning about your questions...I've learned about about DCI from watching The Cavaliers' videos and lurking on The Cadets' site and calender...

Do you think DCI (drum corps international) is an underrated sport?

Yes, totally, the average pro football player practices for about 5 hours a day, while drum corps practice for well over 10 hours a day outside. I know that football is challenging, I'm not saying it isn't, but the people in drum corps definitely put in a ton of effort that goes practically unseen among the general public. (Especially contras, cause those things are litterally 40 pounds. AND THEY STILL HAVE HORN SNAPS)

Why is the DCI (Drum Corps International) age-out age so low at 21?

DCI is labeled as a junior activity. Also, 21 is about the age when people finish college. Once out of school, you’ll have to dedicate most of your time to life: Most people simply wouldn’t have the time or resources to march once they finish college.

Why are there hardly any girls in DCI drum corps battery percussion?

I've noticed that the pit is mainly all girls, cymbals are usually half and half, but I have not seen a girl on any battery percussion instrument. They march in high school, why not drum corps? So regardless of ability, is it more difficult to make battery if you are a girl?
