During Interview For Financial Advisor My Interviewer Asked Me To Come Up A List Of 200 People I

I was asked to create a business plan during a job interview, is this normal?

They are asking you "How to eat an elephant?" and expecting that you would answer "one bite at a time". It is a normal question and understand that they are not expecting a business plan in answer, they are looking for how you will tackle this - are you asking the right questions, do you know the industry language, how you approach planning and strategy, do you know what is important in business etc. For example, if I would be asked for a Business Plan in an interview I would answer by saying, Let's split the business plan in to four broad sections and take it one by one - Strategy, Organization, Operation, and Finance.  If you don't mind, I would like to start with Finance so I can get a better understanding of the business, do you have any preference where we start?Once I have said this much, I have A. engaged the interviewer in my answer and B. set a direction for this discussion.  In most cases, your Interviewer would say yes starting with Finances is fine. Now, ball is again in your court, you play it by asking some relevant questions that will help you build the financial of the company - so two major pieces are Income and Expense Assets & Liabilities, do you have any data on Balance Sheet & Income statement so I can study it? This Q&A like discussion goes on, you keep control of the discussion by asking questions, taking notes of key information and work you way through each section. Be ready to also answer a question in return of your question. for example, let's say you asked, can I have a list competitor pricing? Now, interviewer may question back asking you that why is that important and how does that info change your plan etc? Once you have all the info, ask for a few minutes to put it all together. Now, it comes down to your skills in putting a lot of information together in a cohesive and comprehensive manner to present a strategy/ business plan.  You can model this approach (break down & attack one by one) to any such big picture questions, as the goal of interviewer is not really to have a right or wrong answer from you but to observe how you approach problems, how detail oriented you are, how much breadth and depth you have in your understanding a particular subject matter etc.  All the best!

Canceling deposit to a breeder?

You may be responsible for any expenses he incurred due to your cancellation of the check. Many banks charge a fee ($15-$50) for dealing with a cancelled check, he may have also incurred bounced check charges if he wrote checks based on the money the check you wrote.

You may also be liable for the price of the deposit *if* he has something somewhere that says deposits are non-refundable.

The PROPER way for you to do things would have been to ask him to REFUND your deposit rather than canceling the check.

As a breeder, I'd say the expenses incurred are worth not having someone so indecisive owning one of my pups.

Edit: It's all well and good that on the advice of another breeder you've decided the first breeder isn't good enough ~ and canceling a contract to buy is perfectly fine... HOWEVER, legally, canceling a check is a different thing. Canceling a contract means the other party refunds your deposit (and it has to be the type of contract that is cancel-able) ~ a refund is a check or cash issued to you in the amount of your deposit (assuming that it is not a non-refundable deposit).

It may be that this breeder has been stung multiple times by the slander of another breeder causing people to back out of puppy purchases and no longer offers refundable deposits.

FWIW ~ if you buy a puppy of the same breed from another breeder it is VERY likely a small claims court judge will laugh at you.

How do you respond to "how will you add value to this company?" when asked in an interview?

After 25+ years in HR, the best response I've heard went something like this:I bring my talent at X, my skill set of X, my X years of experience, my enthusiasm, my positive outlook, and my abilities of independent worker, team player, and leadership. I am good at learning new tasks quickly and I am an adept trainer to others.  I will give my effort to be successful here, thus increasing the value of this company. I bring my core values of honesty, reliability, and hard plus smart work.
