Dysphagia Issues And Nurse Comments

Why do doctors think that well informed parents are nuts? Any idea on what it could be?

Unfortunately, if you don't have other kids (not your case, but I'm sure other women have the same question that do only have one) they assume it's "new mommy worry". If you DO have other kids, then they wonder if it's post-partum mental issues. They typically get worse with every child. Not to mention the statistics for Munchausen's by Proxy is on the rise. A lot of doctors are just really jaded and don't listen. Not to mention, a lot of docs are a bit arrogant and believe that medical personell are the only ones with the right training and intelligence to know.

BUT- YOU ARE THE MOTHER! NEVER let someone tell you nothing is wrong when you can feel it in the pit of your stomach. YOU know YOUR child better than they do. And an MRI will NOT show seizures a lot of the time. You need to get him a COUPLE OF EEGs. Even with epilepsy, some of my EEGs come back normal. And mine is rather severe. Most epileptics have normal EEG results about 90% of the time. The things you describe as like absence seizures sound like absence seizures. I've done that since I was an infant. Most of the time, I just look like I'm daydreaming, but longer ones my eyes will flutter. And the "tics" sound like myoclonic jerks. That's another type of seizure. You might look into focal and myoclonic seizures. Myoclonics you're totally conscious for. It's just like "I didn't swing my arm out, it just did on it's own". Or, in his case, "I'm making unintentional facial expressions."

Just keep pushing. All of this will only make you a better parent and a stronger person.

What is the greatest upcoming technology?

Nanotechnology, but in a really cool way.You remember the microbots in Big Hero 6, right? Well, unfortunately, those microbots are impossible, but there is a similar technology that’s being developed in real life. The idea is to build tiny replicators that can create more of themselves, like a sort of super bacteria that never stops replicating. Such a technology would be unbelievably dangerous. In fact:“…the first replicator assembles a copy in one thousand seconds, the two replicators then build two more in the next thousand seconds, the four build another four . . in less than two days, they would outweigh the Earth; in another four hours, they would exceed the mass of the Sun and all the planets combined …”Of course, self-replicators require materials, so they aren’t going to spread through space or anything. But they would have an abundance of material on Earth, especially of carbon, which would likely be the building blocks of such an assemblers. If you were carrying a jar of them and tripped and they spilled out, and they had no limit, they would quickly devour the entire earth with no way of stopping them. But here is where things get interesting: These tiny robots would have the ability to construct molecules from atoms, giving them the ability to produce amazing materials like graphene, cubes of apple, and even brain material. With advanced nanotechnology in the form of self-replicators, the entire world would experience a revolution. Think for a second about what wouldn’t change in the face of machines that can produce everything.Production jobs would cease. The price of every item ever created would be lowered massively. Supercomputers and experiments regarding brain material would become almost commonplace. Terraforming other planets would take years if not months. And all of this is actually realistic. There is a lot of power contained within those tiny machines.

13 month old experiencing involuntary shaking when he wakes up?

I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has ever experienced anything like this. My son has these little shaking episodes, like tremors, from time to time and we notice them most when he is waking up from a nap or in the morning. I wouldn't have even thought anything of it except the day of his 12 month check up my husband went in to wake him and he started shaking very noticeably all over. He was aware during the whole thing, the shaking was definitely involuntary, it scared him and he was crying. The fact he was aware makes me doubt it was seizure activity and the doctor agrees. That episode lasted for 3 min, very scary and what made us start paying closer attention. Other than that episode, the shaking usually affects just his hands and arms. The only time I noticed it other than when he was just waking was once in the bath. It does not seem like a blood sugar issue, since he had a full dinner before taking his bath and eats lunch before most naps, he had an EEG, which came out normal, and we are taking him to a neuroligist monday. But his pediatritian and I are stumped. I know some babies shake when they pee...but not for 3 min while crying and unable to stop. I know its a long shot, but I'm just hoping another mommy might have experienced anything like this before or have any ideas. Thanks so much.
