Tonsil stones, headache, fatigue, sore throat and ear pain?

I'm 23. I have not had my tonsils out and over the past year or so I've been getting frequent tonsil stones, headaches, red, inflamed tonsils and throat and ear pain. I've also been extremely tired all the time. I get bouts of it every 2-3 weeks and it lasts for about 3-5 days. The symptoms have also been getting worse. A tonsil stone that I removed on my own today measured about 3 x 1cm. It was clearly visible in my throat when I opened my mouth, and I think there's more in there still that is not visible, as I'm still hurting and feeling like there's a foreign object lodged in my throat. I've seen my family doctor about it and she didn't seem to be concerned. When I went to see her about it, one of my episodes was on its way out so I'm not sure if she's aware of the severity. I tried to tell her what was going on but she just brushed it off, and said that she did not recommend getting the tonsils removed or even doing anything about this, but it's getting hard to live with. All I want to do is sleep all the time and it's painful to swallow. Should I go to the doctor again and try to get another opinion? It is really not worth getting the tonsils removed at this age? Might these symptoms subside as I get older?

How to get rid of an ear infection? I'm going to a concert?

I have maybe 4 ear infections in 4 months and it's really annoying, especially when money is spent going to the Doctors every week for a check-up and a new prescription of medication.
After maybe 10 visits he referred me to a specialist. I think I have chronic ear infection.

The infection does go away for a period of time, but will eventually come back. It's still being looked into and i'm supposed to be getting grommets put in and tonsils taken out to help.

Anyhow, I can always tell when one is approaching, and I can feel that in the next 1-2 days it's going to blow out and become a full infection...again.
How INCONVENIENT! I'm going to a concert in 9 days that I simply cannot miss at any costs.
It's a birthday present, expensive, very unlikely they will come back to my town and guaranteed not within the next 2-3 years and non-refundable.
Plus i'd really love to go to this, i've been dying to have the band come...well ANY good band visit for a very very long time now.

So, please, how to get rid of it before it starts!
One thing I will not try is the home remedy of putting oils (garlic, cooking oil) in my ear.
That doesn't sit right with me, I wouldn't trust it personally.

Anyway, comments/answers will be appreciated.

Which bacteria usually causes sore throat and tonsillitis? Can azithromycin and cetirizine kill throat infection?

The bacteria could be same. But the causes for sore throat are different in children, adults and senior citizens.Ideally throat swab be taken to identify the bacteria. But generally antibiotics are started before getting the report.SomeENT doctors say Azithromycin is not sufficient. They are going for Amoxicillin+ clovalonic acid (Augmentin) or Cefalosporins. In case of recurrent sore throat one has to search for the cause ? Tonsillitis, ? Exposure to unhygenic water, ? Airconditioner not cleaned for many months, malnutrition and reduced immunoresistance etc.Prevention is better than cure.Avoid cool drinks, cold water, tap water.Avoid A/C if u r not sure about when it was cleaned last.Gargle salt waterThere are better medicines than Cetrizine. consult ENT.Give rest to throatTry Homeo. It works wonders. today I am taking Allium (Homeo)for recurrent flu followed by sore throat and cough.I was not a believer in Homeo for many decades.

Ear piercing infection moving to throat?

leave the earring in and head to your doctor. The sites you have read that told you to keep the earring in are correct as it can trap infection in your tissues, resulting in all those lovely nasty pictures.

A persistant sore throat could be nothing or it could need checked out. As it is always better to be on the safe side, go see your doctor as soon as you can.

You could have swollen lymph nodes from an infection of your ear piercing, from your ears healing response, some totally unrelated germ, or you may have introduced some nasty germ that was on the needle into your body. Tell the doctor what you were up to and your symptoms so they can check for anything you might be in danger of.

It might be tempting to just not mention the piercing, but be tough. The more the doctor knows about your history, the better they are able to help you.

Keep cleaning it with antibacterial soap in the mean time and do explain why you would prefer not to remove it if the doctor asks you to. Some doctors arent aware of how often infected piercings that are removed absess or form nasty scars.

When I clean my left ear with a Q-tip I feel a weird tickling sensation in the back of my throat. The Q-tip isn't even going in that far. Why is this happening?

So, of course, don’t clean your ear with a q-tip. While it has a number of hazards including impacting wax and inadvertently hitting the ear drum, it’s also really unnecessary. The skin in the lower half of the ear canal is always migrating towards the opening as a part of it’s normal life-cycle…and the wax migrates with it. Cleaning only the outer most opening of the ear is sufficient, which doesn’t require going deep into the ear canal with a q-tip.That said, you’re experiencing a stimulation of Arnold’s nerve, part of the facial and cranial nerves that run past the external ear canal. Some people (roughly about 3%) are sensitive to that nerve being touched, and it causes a ‘tickling’ sensation in the throat, which can result in coughing or gagging. The cranial nerves run through various parts of the face, neck and head…and many of them (oddly) run near or through the ear. For example, the chorda tympani nerve passes through the middle ear, and is responsible for passing information of taste for the rear two thirds of the tongue. This is why a middle ear infection can alter taste.See Head and Neck Table of Nerves for a starting point :)

My tonsils swollen for 5 months?

My tonsils have been swollen for over 5 months (one (right) side all the time and the other sometimes) . I have had a strep test but it was neg. I get sick at least once or twice every two weeks since I first noticed the swelling (which I was sick when I noticed).Every morning I wake up with a sore throught but other than that they dont bother me unless I'm sick or eating b/c it feels like I have something stuck in my throught. My right ear also get sore and itchy often . Sometime my tonsils get white pus.. I'm not sure if this is all related but I rarely ever got sore throughts or ear aches before they were there. I never got sick so often I used to get sick only like twice a year.
I would like to know what to do because the doctor said it was normal for them to swell sometimes but this is not normal.

Nurse or doctor help! Pain in my throat?

Have you ever had tonsillitis? Sometimes a pus pocket can form on your tonsil and really hurt ,feeling like a sharp scratch when you swallow. Do you have a fever? Is your throat red? Your eustachian tube (ear canal) is kinda connected so it can also be affected if you have a throat infection. Gargle with salt water after you eat, check your temp before the ibuprofen and if you continue to have discomfort you should see your MD. Sometimes antibiotics have to be ordered, The human body should try and fight infection on it's own to help build your immune system....but suffering longer than 7 to 10 days is too long to go without a professional exam. Good luck.

White stuff on left tonsil and fever?

Tuesday, i got really dizzy and sick feeling in the morning at school. i felt like i couldnt walk. that lasted all day. im pretty sure i had a low grade fever all day, on and off.
Wednesday, I slept most of the day, and I started getting a sore throat.
Today, I slept all day until about 1. I just couldn't get myself out of bed. I finally did, and went on with my Thanksgiving, but had a really sore throat. I just looked at it with a flashlight and there was white pus coming out of my left tonsil, and my throat was really red. I've had a high fever today, I'm almost certain. Tonight, my cheeks were so red and my face was so hot I couldn't stand to touch it. So, when I saw the pus, I decided to play doctor and get it off with a q-tip. It's like a yellow white pus.
I think there's white stuff coming in the back of my throat on the sides, but I'm not sure. My glands in my neck are slightly swollen, but they hurt to be touched.
I was just at the doctor last week complaining of a sore throat and he gave me medicine for it, but it doesn't seem to get any better. Only worse.

So, what is your opinion?
Strep, Mono, Tonsillitis, or something else?

Are my tonsils normal?

With respect to your age, no problem. I have avoided removing tonsils in people who are above 70 years old. The real question would be the nature and duration of the problem. The photo shows large tonsils with a swollen uvula; the combination would suggest the possibility of obstructive breathing during sleep. It is time to be examined by an ENT doc who would additionally look at your nose and nasopharynx.
