the hopi said when the earth was an island (pan geo), and everyone looked the same and spoke the same language.the creator saw it was time to change it. the land was broken up to form continents,the people suddenly spoke new languages and were made of the four colours. and were sent out in the four directions.and to remember the creators plan(to follow the creators path) each was given knowledge of the sacred hand shake. the black man was in charge of water and today there are drs. who are making great strides in blood work.medicine in general. the yellow man was in chrage of air,and today we have zen meditation-knowledge of chi. the white man was in charge of fire and today everything we own has fire the lights engines almost everything.. and the red man is in charge of the earth to learn of plant lore and animals,to see the ways of seasons and posess that knowledge. after a long time the elders had visions that the turtle clan was coming ,and knew they still had knowledge of the creator it was said that in one prophecy the turtle people still worshipped the 4 directions with the cross.but that it wasnt protected,with a circle... so the white man came back the spanish in fact ,they even looked like turtles! and meeting them on the shores the hopi extended their hand for the sacred hand shake and instead the spanish dropped a trinket in the warriors hand. this was not good because they forgot the sacred hand shake. and to more prophecies came more signs that it was going to end abruptly,
Let me illustrate by a concrete example: The US-Canadian border. It is real in the sense that individuals can't just arbitrarily disregard it without consequence. Just try driving through customs without stopping and see what happens. In that sense, it is just as real as gravity, which is not easily disregarded either. But, at the same time, the border is clearly something whose existence and reality is grounded in laws and conventions adopted by society. That is evident from the fact that, by appropriate societal agreement, the border could be moved or even dissolved completely. Thus, its reality is socially constructed. The same is true for all of our laws, conventions, customs, and so on. This includes money, property, corporations and governmental agencies and institutions, and political offices. At a deeper and less explicit level, it also includes all the societal roles and attitudes that are at play in society. And even deeper are the assumptions of our cultural worldview that shape how we experience the world. Within a given society, they are real enough. But they are constructed by conventions adopted by the society, and only function within that context, or to the extent that they are internalized in the individual.
So I've seen several responses which refer specifically to academia and if that's what you're asking about, then don't pay attention to this response. But if you're just asking what the difference between objectivity and subjectivity is, an easy way to think of it is, "Subjective evaluations are SUBJECT to your interpretation." Objective evaluations are not.Subjectivity is not definitive. There are no absolutes in subjectivity like a poem or a song. Their meaning and importance are ultimately left up to the person that is listening to them. Objectivity simply is what it is, whether you wish it was another way or not. For instance, the sky is objectively blue. Ice is objectively cold. Those things are just facts, they aren't up to interpretation.
