Due to pshcyoacoustic phenomena, when listening to music through just one headphone, most people have a tendancy to turn music up on that side to compensate for the perceived difference in decibel level between using one and both headphones. This is because music sounds considerably quieter when listening to just one side. Some of this can be attributed to how the music is mixed, but even with a mono signal (same signal going to both sides) listening to music with both ears will sound MUCH louder than listening to music with one ear. Keep in mind your ears are spacial senses…when you hear a branch snap in the woods you turn your head to look at where you think the sound is coming from. Consider stereo sound a kind of depth perception, only in 3d. When you listen to only one earphone it robs your mind of any spacial awareness from the sound, greatly “flattening” the sound. Loss of hearing/ringing in ears after orgasm?
