Effects Of Hearing With Only One Ear

Hearing high pitched noise in one ear.?

There may be wax somewhere deeper in your auditory canal that is blocking your hearing. Also, a bug may have crawled in there and made it its new home. You may have just slept in the wrong position and caused some damage to your ear. There might be an unequal amount of pressure in the eustachian tube of your right ear. Perhaps you have vertigo, especially if you notice any signs of imbalance, such as dizziness, stumbling, etc. Any of these things require a trip to the doctor. Sometimes (and this usually isn't advised by any medical professional because it can make the problem worse) if you cover your nose and try to blow through your nose, you can eventually feel the pressure in your eustachian tube change, and it might help you to hear better.

How does being deaf in one ear affect a person?

I've been deaf in my right ear since i was 2. A lot of people have already mentioned the loss in sterio or directional hearing makes it hard to locate the origin of sounds. Many people with single sided deafness (ssd) will find themselves placing themselves in corners or with their backs against walls in noisy areas so they can see where the sounds might be coming from. There is a thing called the cone effect where if a noise hits a ssd person's deaf ear, the noise will never hit threr good ear because the sound vibrations go around the head like a cone. So a lot of noises on their deaf side go unnoticed. 1/3 of ssders fail a class in elementary school and middle school Because of the noisy classrooms and constant distractions. Many ssders subconsciously rely on lip reading and context to piece together what people are saying. Ssders are exhausted after a long day if audio input. After a long day of school many young ssders are completely whiped out from the constant focusing and piecing together conversations. Many ssders are bullied or made fun of Because of their disability. But it's not all bad! I can sleep on my good ear and fall asleep in noisy situations!

Is there any long term effects to a cats hearing if earmites are left untreated?

There is a long term affect to the cats ears - your cat is violently shaking and scratching at its ears. Aura hematoma's are extremely painful and can actually destroy and deform the ear over time. Keep in mind that they feed on blood - so you run the risk of making your cat anemic as well. Keep in mind that YOU can get earmites too (unlikely but possible) - so please! PLEASE treat your cat! Revolution will keep earmites away for a month at a time.

Does one ear hearing loss considered to be disabled?

That depends. First of all, what is your meaning of “disabled?” Do you mean in a legal sense, as in qualifying for special treatment or protection? Do you mean “socially?” If it’s the latter, then only the specific person can answer. As some of the other answers have pointed out, many people live happy and productive lives hearing out of only one ear.If you mean “legally disabled,” then that depends on the country and area where the person lives. In the USA, where I live, that is mostly controlled by the States, and by the courts. It also depends on the source of the deafness. If it was an injury, and was connected to employment it may be covered by Industrial Accident Insurance. If it was caused by the Military, it may have Veteran’s Administration compensation. If the ear you are talking about is on your head, do you have a full medical opinion? I say this, because complete deafness can be caused by a build up of cerumen(ear wax) and can be corrected very easily by an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist.

Are there any side-effects to listening to music with just one headphone for a prolonged time?

Due to pshcyoacoustic phenomena, when listening to music through just one headphone, most people have a tendancy to turn music up on that side to compensate for the perceived difference in decibel level between using one and both headphones. This is because music sounds considerably quieter when listening to just one side. Some of this can be attributed to how the music is mixed, but even with a mono signal (same signal going to both sides) listening to music with both ears will sound MUCH louder than listening to music with one ear. Keep in mind your ears are spacial senses…when you hear a branch snap in the woods you turn your head to look at where you think the sound is coming from. Consider stereo sound a kind of depth perception, only in 3d. When you listen to only one earphone it robs your mind of any spacial awareness from the sound, greatly “flattening” the sound. The sound is then perceived at less than half the volume so the normal tendency is to turn up that headphone more than twice as loud. It’s actually a little more complicated than this, but this is the gist. To answer your question in short, it is very likely that you will damage your hearing listening to just one headphone for a prolonged period of time. Hope this helps.

Loss of hearing/ringing in ears after orgasm?

Just so you know, it is extremely embarrassing to ask about this (please be nice!).

Recently, I've started masturbating with a makeshift dildo (I'll spare you the details). I'm responsible about it, I'm not too rough, and I've never experienced any pain (or other negative effects). But I've noticed that after I orgasm, my ability to hear decreases noticeably. This is followed by a "ringing" in my ears. All of this only lasts less than five minutes, but I want to know if this common -- or, whether I need to worry about it.

To be clear, I've masturbated for a long time (just, never with a dildo or anything of the sort) and never had this happen before. And, also, I haven't yet had intercourse -- so I don't have that experience to compare it to.
