Sports: How much does English premier league contribute to total GDP of England?

The impact of Premier League on UK's GDP is an enormous one.An Ernst & Young (EY) Economic Impact Assessment of the Premier League has reported that in the 2013/14 season alone the Premier League directly, and indirectly via its supply chain, contributed £6.2billion to UK economic output, £3.4billion to the UK's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and £2.4billion in taxes to the Exchequer. The report also found that the League supports more than 100,000 jobs.To put this figure into context, EY calculated that this substantial contribution to the UK Exchequer could pay the salaries of around 93,000 police constables, which is over 90% of all constables in England and Wales. The tax contribution includes £891m in tax directly paid by Premier League players. You can refer to the full report below.Premier League Economic Impact Ernst & Young Populus

Anyone who thinks Liverpool were lucky in 2005 read this! And Liverpool fans you can read this for a smile!?

SON “So let’s get this straight dad - Liverpool had 3 good teams in their group, they then knocked out a team who had beaten Real Madrid 3-0, they then knocked out the future Serie A champions, then knocked out the future Premiership champions, before coming back from 3-0 down to beat the 2nd most successful club in Europe. And then the whole population of Liverpool came out to welcome them home!!!!”

DAD “That about sums it up son”

SON “Dad?”

DAD “Yes son”

SON “Can I have a Liverpool shirt for my birthday next week, and can you stop calling me Chalks - I’m Stevie from now on”

Who will win the Premier League this year? Why?

First, let’s have a look at the Premier League table.9 matches played. 29 more games left. Right now it’s still early to say which team will win the Premier League.Manchester City is at the top at the table with 25 points. City scores the most goals (32) and concede the fewest (4). They are unbeaten since the first week of the season. They won their last 7 PL games. The last time they fail to win is the 1–1 draw against Everton. Take the current form into account, they are in a good position to win the league.Manchester United starts the season well. The Red Devils looked unbeatable at the start of the season, until their first defeat of the season in the hand of newly promoted Huddersfield Town. Now they are trailing behind the Citizen by 5 points. However, as I said earlier, the season is just started. There are still many matches to be played. Also, don’t forget about Mourinho’s second season syndrome[1].Next is Tottenham Hotspurs. Spurs has a good team. Harry Kane is there to always score goals. They have a good back three. They have good midfielders in Alli, Eriksen, and Harry Winks. Hugo Lloris is always reliable. They have amazing work rate. Their current form is also not bad - 4 wins and 1 draw in the last 5 matches. Spurs might win the league this year if they keep their current form. They have been the title challengers for the last two seasons. Two seasons ago (Leicester City’s year), they finished third. Last season, they finished second. Who know what might happen this season? What about the defending champions, Chelsea? Well, it is not great to trail the leader by 9 points. They only won 2 of their last 5 matches (2W 2L 1D). And unlike last season, this year they play in the Champions League. Gone the midweeks rest while other big teams play in the CL.The PL title race is still wide open. It’s still to early to say which team will win the PL. If I have to pick one, I will pick City. They are unstoppable right now.Footnotes[1] Jose Mourinho to Prove a 2nd-Season King Again at Manchester United?

Regulation in soccer?

Relegation*

It means they will play in the League below (The Championship next season) along with the team who finishes 18th. They will be replaced by the winner of The Championship, 2nd place in The Championship an the winner of The Championship play-offs (3rd - 6th).

Aside from losing their position in the highest level of English football, they also lose a massive amount of revenue supplied by the media (it is estimated that the teams relegated this season from the BPL will have up to £50 million less than they would if they survived), which often causes serious the financial problems for a club meaning they have to sell, or even release players and staff within the club in order to save money. Especially QPR who have spent in excess of £40 million in transfers.

It also makes them a less attractive club for both players and prospective owners alike.

It also seriously damages their chances of having European football (though not impossible).

Basically, relegation is awful for a club, potentially devastating. They can of course be promoted the very next season if they play well enough but it is very rare for all 3 relegated clubs to come straight back up. Of the 3 that go down, it is likely that at least 1 will spend more than a season there.

There is also the very worst case scenario of getting relegated again, this time to League 1 in the exact same circumstances (Wolves currently find themselves in this situation having been relegated from the BPL last season and now look likely to be relegated from The Championship this season).

And it goes on like that for 10 leagues.
