Employers How Do You Want People To Ask When They Call You After Putting In An Application Over

Is it illegal for an employer to ask your date of birth on an online job application as a required field.?

I realize that for some positions they require you to be 18 or 21, however that question can be asked simply by stating the question "are you 18 or over" which many site do without pinpointing your exact age. I have read the training manual for NAPS which states that the question cannot be asked due to age discrimination and our policy in recruiting at my company was never to ask that question for the same reason. I am over 40 which puts me in the category for age discrination. You may be able to get a basic idea of a persons age in an interview, however at least you got the interview to discuss your skills and sell yourself. By asking the question online you can immediately disqualify them by age. If this is not an illegal practice, then it should be!

Put in job application, how long should i wait for response?

In hindsight, but for next time, be sure to ask how soon you can expect to hear the decision - whether you're handing in an app or being interviewed. In general, two weeks is fairly standard, so you made a good move making some money. After a week it's not bad form to call back and ask if you're still in the running, unless they gave you a specific time frame when they would call. They were remiss in waiting so long to notify you. Even if they thought there was a primary choice or two and then they called you after they didn't turn out, they should have let you know you were not their first choice, weren't in the running at all, or you're still under consideration but we can't decide yet. If they weren't courteous enough to honor your need to make decisions, maybe they weren't a good choice with whom to work.

How many days after you fill out a job application should you call back?

I just finished filling out job applications for retail stores. I've always been told that you should call back after a couple of days to first check to see if your application has been processed, and then a few days later to check to see if they've looked at your application (they say this under the theory that the people who are responsible for arranging interviews will most likely remember your eagerness and then call you back for an interview.) Is this true at all?

If it is generally true, then how long should you wait before you call to ask at all about your application?

What does it mean if an employer keeps telling you "Call Back Tommorrow"?

So I put in an application at a local gas station in my area. So I've been trying to get a hold of the manager so I can let him know I applied and ask if he can check the status of my application!! But it seems like Everytime I call them, one of the assistant managers will just tell me "Oh he not here right now, call back Tommorrow"??? This has been going on for like a week now!!! Should I just give up on this job and find a new one??? Seems like they're not really interested in hiring if they're just going to give me the cold shoulder Everytime I call and just say "Try Again tommorrow"

What does it mean if a company says we are taking applications?

It means one of a couple things:
1. Legally, no equal-opportunity company is allowed to tell you that you are not allowed to apply.
2. The person you are asking does not really know so that's what they say.
3. Yes they are hiring.

Do employers do a background check before they call you for an interview or after?

I'm in college and i'm looking for a part time job. I've applied online at all the recognized places where i think it would be okay for a college student to work, (walmart, sears, walgreens, etc) Everyone seems to ask if i would volunteer for the background check and I always put yes. Its been about a month since i applied to practically all the places and only one has called me for an interview. That one, said they would run a background check on me and then let me know. That was about 5 days ago. Now, do employers run a background check after the interview or do they do it before? I have a car to pay for and books also for class and I want to get a job sooner than later so as to not go into too much debt. Should i have applied in person instead of online?

If you didn't get the job do most employers call you back to tell you that you didn't get the job after the interview?

In an ideal world yes they would, and I can tell you it’s a pain when you go to the effort of applying for a job and you hear nothing or you get the interview and then nothing. On one hand it seems so rude, after all you went to all that effort.Let’s take the two scenarios:you apply for a job you hear nothing back - normally what happens is that there are so many applications that they can’t reply to each one, so normally when you apply there will be a text saying “if you are a fit for the job we will contact you. If you don’t hear from us in 15 days you have not been successful.” Image how many applications they may get - there’s no way they could give a response to everyoneYou get the interview and you don't hear back. It could be that they don’t want to get into a conversation with you and you asking about feedback what could be improved etc. Thus rather than say anything they just say nothing.Sometimes the recruiter may give you feedback on behalf of the client (if you went to an agency)However by and large don’t expect a reply and just move on and realise this. Yes it is tough but once you get used to it, it won’t affect you so much

Is it better to apply for a job directly through an employer, or is it better to use a third-party job site like Hcareers or Indeed?

In today’s fast paced world, both methods can have its advantages and disadvantages. While it is true that you can just upload your Resume on these third party websites, many of them do require advance questions for your profile. This is used to then send you jobs they think you may be interested in, other than those that you have applied for.Third party websites has its advantages when it comes to small companies seeking potential employees, as they often do not have a HR department and these websites such as Indeed. It can be expensive, so most of these companies would only use third party career websites for hard to get positions, that requires an extensive screening of potential candidates.Employers website application, may be more extensive as they are “screening” you out to see if you are qualified for the job you are applying for. This lets them know if they should call you in for an interview or not.Just be aware however, that even though it is not said and hard to prove, some recruiting websites can blacklist an applicant if they have applied for tons of job and have not been selected for the same and also if your job profile is not up to date. Also once your Resume has been submitted to a company, sometimes you can get locked out for a few months before you are able to submit another application again. This old adage would be great to remember in this scenario, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” Try various websites and application process. If you can apply directly with the company, do so. If you have to apply with a career website, do so and make sure your profile and Resume is updated.Good luck and thanks for the A2A.
