Do you ever hear a song or watch a film and feel disappointment that the idea has been wasted?

The worst offender to me is the movie The Matrix. The premise is brilliant: what if our entire reality is a simulation? It could have been a thought-provoking exploration of the brain-in-a-vat thought experiment in philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bra...). But the filmmakers squandered the premise entirely by giving it all away in the first 30 minutes. Act I is set up as a mystery: Neo notices that reality is very slightly off, and his explorations lead him deeper into the puzzle, with clues slowly given out to him and to the audience, and each answer opening up new questions. And indeed, if you recall, the promotion of that movie centered around the slogan "What is the Matrix?". And then, at the end of Act I, the movie stops dead, Morpheus turns to the camera against a white background and laboriously explains exactly what the Matrix is. Neither Neo nor the audience have "earned" that explanation, and it's all presented through talk instead of action. The entire remaining 90 minutes are a pointless action movie. Exciting, visually cool, innovative, but still pointless. The mystery has already been solved for us. It's as if, 30 minutes in to The Usual Suspects (spoiler alert!), Verbal turns to the camera in Basil Exposition style and says "I'm Keyser Soze. Now let's shoot at each other for an hour and a half". Now imagine if, instead, the Matrix had remained a mystery until the climax of the movie. If Neo, and we along with him, had spent the entire movie unraveling the puzzle, so that the big reveal is earned and is demonstrated through action and not talking. That would have been one of the most satisfying and memorable movies of that decade. Interesting footnote: I think Christopher Nolan was subtly commenting on this when he cast Matrix alums Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano in Memento, which was a far smarter, subtler take on the question of constructed reality.

Dhoom3 :[SPOILER ALERT]: Did Sahil or Samar (Aamir Khan) die or did both survived at the end of movie?

I don't know if there was any stringer (post-credit scene) as I immediately walked out of the theatre when the end credit song started and up until then, the only thing we saw is both Sahil and Samar jumped down together. So it seems both died in the end(the probability of living after a fall from Contra DamĀ  is close to zero. But like in other jumps previously executed by Aamir Khan in the movie, he could also use a cable or hide something underwater so that he may not die. But for him, his life's mission- destroying the bank is fulfilled and it doesn't matter to him if he dies. So in the end, we are not quite sure whether they die or survive- but I believe the odds of surviving are less. Thanks for A2A!
