English Book Review Gulliver

What is Gulliver's Travels about?

It’s a satire on 18th century European (especially English) society. The narrator travels to many (fictional) strange lands in which the behavior of the inhabitants may be compared to that of Swift’s contemporaries to show the absurdity of the way the author’s compatriots behave. For example, the prophet of the Lilliputian religion said everyone should break his egg at the more convenient end, so the Lilliputians are split into religious sects by the question of whether the big end or the small end was meant by this. The fact that these are little people shows Swift’s belief that such religious disputes are petty (little minded) and nonsensical. The Giants Gulliver meets are, on the other hand, rational and humane—”big minded.”

Are we to have read both Gulliver's Travels and Three Men in a Boat for the class 9 SA2 exam?

No, you need to read anyone of them..Which is chosen by your teacher/school or if they allow you to choose then go for Gulliver travels.. as three men in a boat sucks!( I too passed my 9th and 10th via CBSE board with awwsm CGPA of 10..With novel three men in a boat in 9th and Anne Frank in 10th..)According to my experience we all where confused..About the story..No one in the class was very clear which ultimately lead to loose some of marks in novel..As the vocabulary used is too hard to understand..So I prefer you to use Gulliver travel.!!You can choose three men..Too..It's your choice..Hope this will help you..!?Any queries feel free to ask!:D

What is the best movie version of Gulliver's Travels?

Wikipedia lists more than a dozen versions, film, television, one offs and series, starting with George Melies in 1903. I still like the one with Kerwin Matthews made with stop action animation master Ray Harryhausen, from 1960, called Three Worlds of Gulliver. Because the original work by Swift is a sophisticated satire of government and a parody of the travel books of its day, it is extremely difficult to translate to film. Still, Harryhausen and the screenwriters had fun with it.

i'm really sorry for my english...

Why did Jonathan Swift write Gulliver's Travels?

And don't say because it was supposed to entertain.
He criticizes English ideology, institutions and human nature in the book by using satire. Swift was also involved in politics and the church (although I really don't know the details about this and what was going on at the time).
Was he trying to advocate reform? I just don't understand what Swift's goal was in writing this book.
