English Grammar Book Suggestion

What are some suggestions for English grammar books for 7th to 10th grade students?

I prefer Wren and Martin now too. This book is always updated. Besides this I would like you to go through books from Oxford University Press for English.Lastly what I personally and really like is NCERT books used in the respective grades. They are designed by the experts. I truly appreciate.

Which is the best English grammar book for toefl students and as well as for MBA students?

It looks like you've got a couple of things going. The TOEFL is based on American English, so an American book would be the best for review. The grammar books by Betty Azar are the most widely used in the U.S. - the blue one is the advanced volume. Or there are a number of TOEFL review books that have extensive sections on grammar.
The ICSE thing I can't help you with because I don't know what version of English you're studying in. As for the MBA, where do you plan to study? If you're taking the TOEFL because you want to study in the U.S., then reviewing American grammar would help there, too.
Yes, grammar is different in the different dialects. For example, in British English, corporations and other organizations are followed by a plural verb instead of the singular, which is used in American English- "Delta have announced an airfare sale today" versus "Delta has announced an airfare sale today." Most American teachers would think the first sentence was grammatically wrong and would take off points for it.
P.S. You don't actually learn to use grammar correctly by memorizing rules, although that might help you with the TOEFL. If you actually want to improve your usage, the best way is to read a lot, especially in the area you plan to study.

What is the best English grammar book for class 9 CBSE?

Hi there,As per my suggestion,Prescriptive grammar is taught in primary and secondary school. So you should have to study normal oxford books(grammar with translation). Also, the formal study of grammar is an important part of education for children from a young age through advanced learning, though the rules taught in schools are not a "grammar" in the sense most linguists use the term, particularly as they are often prescriptive rather than descriptive. You should also study the WORK BOOK as this is very important & recommended by the CBSE.hope it helps.

Help with English grammar?

If you intend a career in TESL you will need to own a general grammar such as Thomson and Martinet's 'Practical English Grammar' (this is what British teachers regularly use, there are other similar texts available).
You should buy yourself such a general grammar and slowly read it through (remembering that there is no such thing as a definitive English grammar, so your text will be correct only 90% of the time).
If you ever want something more advanced, you could look around for a copy of Quirk's "A Grammar of Contemporary English".
You will learn much more with a book than you eve could from a website, Grammar needs careful study and slow thinking about. (Many websites are also very unreliable).

If you ever decide that grammar fascinates you a short course in Latin (three months or so, or even a good teach-yourself book) will get you thinking about grammar in ways unimaginable to people who went through the standard modern educational system. You don't need to master Latin to any extent (maybe up to being able to read gravestones and inscriptions) - but it will show you how grammar works.

(You certainly don't need Applied Linguistics to be a successful TESL teacher. A smattering of a second language - any second language - is far more useful than most Applied Linguistics concepts).

What is the BEST BOOK on ENGLISH COMPOSITION AND GRAMMAR?

I have shelves of books on grammar and composition, but the one open on my desk as I write this is the one that's most often open on my desk: "The St. Martin's Handbook" by Andrea Lunsford and Robert Connors. It's fairly advanced, but fully accessible, with lots of examples.

(I was just explaining subjunctive mood to someone, and used it to find the exact rules.)

Edit: New editions cost a lot, but the language doesn't change all that fast. Used ones of previous editions are cheap, and perfectly serviceable. I see one for $2.
