Epics From Different Countries

Epics of different countries..???

"Epic" can be loosely defined as poetry about a legendary person or series of events. The epic tradition is both rich and international. Nearly all epics were composed in ancient times, but endure to this day as a testament to human creativity, literary achievement, and artistic sensibility. Here are a few epics, separated by country of origin:

Ancient Greece:
1) Homer's Iliad, an epic about the Trojan War
2) Homer's Odyssey, an epic about the hero Odysseus' return home after the Trojan War

Ancient Rome:
1) Virgil's Aeneid, an epic about the founding of Rome by Aeneas, a Trojan hero and refugee
2) Ovid's Metamorphoses, an epic about mythology in general
3) Ovid's Art of Love, an epic about romance and seduction

Ancient India:
1) The Mahabharata, an epic about the devastating war between two parts of the same royal family
2) The Ramayana, an epic about the life of a demigod named Rama (the incarnation of the god Vishnu)

Ancient Sumer:
1) The Epic of Gilgamesh, about a great hero of the same name, his accomplishments, and his attempt to save his best friend from death

You can find many other examples, and more full descriptions of these epics, at Wikipedia.

Best of luck!

What is the national epic of any country?

Hungary has several national epics — including how a giant bird led the original Magyar tribes westward into the Danubian plain — but my favorite is about the siege of Eger in 1552 by overwhelming numbers of Ottoman Turks. The heroic defense by courageous WOMEN and men is memorialized nicely in the very popular historical novel Eclipse of the Crescent Moon.(You can see the bird in Budapest; Eger is a nice one-day tourist trip.)

Why were epics written?

Epics were not written by today.  Our two epics are not the simple story of a simple person but it is the sign, symbol of India. Ramayan and Mahabharat are our symbol by which we are known and India is considered as great country in whole world. Two epics are our identity and this because we are known in whole world.  It also teaches us that Sanatan Dharma is the only Dharma in whole world and it never ends, while other have date and particular person. We have no date of origin, mid or end. Whenever, there is threat to Sanatan Dharma or loss of it, Lord himself comes in different form here for the cause of Sanatan Dharma.  No any other country has such story where Lord ever had appeared, but because India is not a simple soil like other parts of world. It is the land where Jivatam can direct contact with Param Purush Lord through meditation or Bhakti Sutra and with Yog. So, being questioning on why epics written, you should have pride that we have great two epics. No any other country have such great epics or such story like India. We are one of the oldest civilization in the world and first civilization was grown up here. /Jai Sri Ram/

Epic drunk/wasted stories?

Where to begin... I have been wasted numerous times, in a variety of different countries over the years, ranging from an 18 year old squaddie in Germany ,mostly in Hamburg and Hanover, to Northern Ireland falling asleep in an allyway drunk on duty, lost teeth in a fight in Cyprus serving for the UN, spent the night in a Drunk Tank in Canada, been lost on the Paris underground, lost my way in St Petersburg in Russia after much vodka, danced the night away in Pacha nightclub Madrid and missed my flight home, left my mobile phones on a bus in Stockholm, been arrested by the American Military Police in Italy, right through until more recently in Tel Aviv, Israel, where I have drank so much Sambuca I haven't even been able to speak, let alone stand up....
I have drank, partied, thrown up, staggered home and lived to tell the tale of many, many nights out...

What are some fundamental problems of great Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharatha?

Both Ramayana and Mahabharatha are great epics written by Maharishis some thousands of years back for the people to learn something out of them. I don’t think there are any problems in these epics. Again it depends on readers interpretation. The following text may not appropriate for this question, but still worth reading and it is another interpretation of these epics. There are four yugas widely accepted in Hinduism. They are :1. Satya yug2. Treta yug (Ramayana)3. Dwapara yug (Mahabharata)4. Kal yug (Present)In Satya yug, the fight was between two worlds (Devalok & Asuralok). Asuralok being the evil, was a different WORLD.In Treta yug, the fight was between Rama and Ravana. Both rulers from two different COUNTRIES.In Dwapara yug, the fight was between Pandavas and Kauravas. Both good and evil from the SAME FAMILY.Kindly note how the evil is getting closer. For example, from a DIFFERENT WORLD to a DIFFERENT COUNTRY to the SAME FAMILY.Now, know where is the evil in Kaliyug???It is inside us. Both GOOD AND EVIL LIVE WITHIN. The battle is within us. Who will we give victory to, our inner goodness or the evil within??Think, identify and fight.Note: This text is forward message from WhatsApp.
