Suppose that 10 patients with meningitis received treatment with large doses of penicillin. Three days later, temperatures were recorded, and the treatment was considered successful if there had been a reduction in a patient's temperature. Denoting success by S and failure by F, there are 10 observations....F, S, F, F, F S, F, F, S, S

ok with this information can you please tell me the answer to this:

Suppose that it is decided to include 25 more patients in the study. How many of these would have to be S's to give p = 0.80 for the entire sample of 35 patients?... and explain to me how you arrived at this answer, because its confusing me a bit...thanks so much help is much appreciated :)

How come using animals for testing is unethical?

This can be a very volatile subject, so, I am sure your paper will be debatable based on the subject matter.I want you to know that I am completely against animal testing, but because you are writing a research paper for school, you need information, not opinions, so I will do my best to provide you with balanced articles.Wikipedia has some good information with a lot of links:Animal testing - WikipediaHere is a fairly balanced article on the Pros and Cons of animal testing:Animal Testing - ProCon.orgMuch of the scientific community is in favor of animal testing. They see humans as superior to animals, and this belief justifies the use of animals in testing. While animal suffering should be minimized, they also cite that it is preferable for an animal to suffer as opposed to a human.Over 26 million animals are used for animal testing each year in the united states. Researchers say that pain, suffering and mistreatment is minimized thanks to the Animal Welfare Act of 1966 (AWA). The problem is that 95% of the animals used in testing are not covered in this act, and there are loopholes for those that are. Here is a link to the AWA:Animal Welfare ActHere is an excerpt from the page linked below (emphasis added):Consultation with the principal investigator to minimize pain and distress. Section 2.31(d) in general and section 2.31 (d)(1)(iv) through (xi) specifically.(d)(1)(iv)Procedures that may cause more than momentary or slight pain or distress to the animals will:(A) Be performed with appropriate pain relieving drugs unless withholding such drugs is justified for scientific reasons, in writing, by the principal investigator and will continue only for the necessary period of time.(B) Involve in their planning, consultation with the attending veterinarian or his or her designee.(C) Not include the use of paralytics without anesthesia. (This is a flat prohibition).Animal Welfare Act Quick Reference GuidesOi! I am sorry, I did not mean to let my bias show, but I truly believe you will get valuable information that is not hidden, but is not highlighted when it comes to ethics.Good luck to you!

Hey I am working on a research paper for a 12 grade English class. The criteria for the paper was simply to choose a controversial topic, and I chose vaccinations. I basically am just looking for some help on getting started with the paper and getting a good outline. I am supposed to discuss both sides of the subject, so mandatory vaccinations VS individual rights. Please help!
