Examples Of Chivalry In The Wife Of Bath

Need help with my english paper on Chivalry?

ok so in class we read the stories The wife of bath's tale, Mort d'arthur, and sir Gawain and the green knight. Now I have to write a 2-3 page paper with proper quotes, examples, and a thesis statement but I am not really sure what my thesis statement could be. My teacher helped us out by giving us a starting thesis statement ... "According to the three texts chivalry is....." but I don't know what the three texts combined say about chivalry and why or how It does. Can someone help me? Also I could really use some good quotes from the stories to back it up if you know any. Thanks in advance

What are some beautiful husband and wife love stories?

Losing after Winning!Madhu's lucent eyes were stuck to her laptop screen. She was so snowed in biting her nails as she didn't even perceive her husband returned from the work.Hello! Arjun cheered entering their room. But, silence is the only acknowledgment he got. What's bothering you, ma'am? he asked by tapping on her shoulders. She promptly placed her laptop on the bed. Oh, I'm..I'm sorry. Go and fresh, I will serve dinner Arjun. He anticipated that something is wrong. Okay, ma'am. I will. But you haven't answered my question yet. What's bothering you? Any bugs in the program? With a consistent turmoil, she stopped biting her nails and asked, Oh, a smart observation there. But, How do you know?By shrugging his shoulders and with a meager essence of narcissism, "Well, not only about observation but the man you married is smart too. You can shoot him any question as well!”Madhu thought to give a try. She hastily hands over the laptop and said, "Well, in that case, Mr. Smart hubby, fix this bug right now.Aha! What if I fix this right now? You must do whatever I say? Deal?Don't overestimate yourself Mr.Arjun, she giggled.Within a few minutes, Arjun fixed the bug and turned the laptop screen towards her. She went out of the blue for few seconds, yet admired her hubby covertly. So the real melodrama began. Now say that I'm smarter and intelligent than you, he commanded."Yes, I'm smarter and intelligent than you", she said. What? I asked you to say that I'm smarter and intelligent than you, he repeated his words.Yeah, that's what I said. I'm smarter and intelligent than you. He knows pretty well how to win over her and suddenly caged her in his wide arms. Hours has passed just by staring into each other's eyes. They failed to notice the distance between them. All they could hear was each one's heart beat. A ring of his mobile delivered senses to them. She took it as a chance and tried her hard to push him back. But he now pulled her even closer. She then decided to halt the dispute. Okay, you are smarter and intelligent than me Mr.Smart. Happy? One day, I will win over you. Leave me now.He laughed his heart out on seeing his wifey’s puppy face and said, “You’ve already won my girl!”She asked in a plight, “Where? I mean when?”With a pride on his face, he said, “In making me yours!”All she could do was hug him as tight as she can as some people also won by losing. Thanks for asking and suggesting the title as well Sid :-)

How is The Canterbury Tales a satire?

Satire is the use of humor to expose someone or something's vices or flaws. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer uses satire to expose the faults of institutions, and common stereotypes of  his time. Satire is broken into six elements, all of which are prevalent in the tales.1. Verbal Irony - to say one thing and mean something else2. Mockery - to make something the laughing matter3. Understatement - implying the opposite something by saying less than one means4. Overstatement - implying something by exaggeration5. Parody - a mocking imitation6. Sarcasm - the use of praise to mock someoneEven in the General Prologue, the reader is exposed to Chaucer's satiric tone. This is especially true when he introduces to us the characters. For example, The Knight's  description is understatement. He is meant to poke fun at the Knights's of Chaucer's time that no longer followed the Code of Chivalry. Usually, the more Chaucer dislikes a character the more prevalent satire is in their description. An example of this is the Pardoner, his horrible description is overstatement to show what a horrible person he is. Also the animalistic description of him is a parody for the same purpose. Corruption of the Catholic Church was a major problem during Chaucer's time and, is a major theme in The Canterbury Tales. Through the use of satire, he exposes this issue to the audience. A major example of this is the overstatement of how bad the religious figures. The only moral religious figure, the parson, is a understatement whose pure lifestyle is meant to exemplify the adulterated lifestyles of the other clergy members. Hope this helped!!!!

Is there a difference between the 'dame' and 'lady' titles?

Yes. Dame is an honor conferred on someone for an achievement. Lady is an all-purpose, kind of catch-all title for a woman in a certain position, whether by virtue of her birth or marriage.

A woman could called "Lady" because she married a member of the gentry or nobility (from the rank of knight on up), or was the daughter of a member of the aristocracy above a particular rank. The actual reason she is given the courtesy title is indicated by the name following the title.

Dose anyone know whats the "the wife of Prolgue about.??

I have a feeling that what you mean is what is the Wife of Bath's Prologue in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales about.

The Wife of Bath gives insight into the role of women in the Late Middle Ages. She believes herself an expert on the relations between men and women, having had five husbands herself, beginning with her first marriage at age 12. She provides a brief history and defends her many marriages with biblical citations, though she frequently misquotes them. She also expands on the status of virginity, claiming that virginity is not necessary to be a good and virtuous person. Many of her comments are counter-arguments to those put forth by St.Jerome. She is both direct and opinionated, particularly about the futility of men attempting to gain sovereignty or domination over women, and her opinions prepare the reader for her tale about the role of sovereignty in marriage.
