Examples Of Rappers Like Chance The Rapper

Why is it that the people like Hopsin (rapper) don't get as famous as mumbling rappers like Young Thug?

Hopsin makes music that is generally seen by Hip-Hop fans as very bad. In fact, that’s the primary thing that Hopsin is really known for in the Hip-Hop community.Go to a site like Rap Genius, KTT, Section80, the Coli, or pretty much any major Hip-Hop community hub and tell them that you love Hopsin, or that Hopsin’s one of your favorite rappers, or tell them that Hopsin is better than Young Thug. People will assume that you are a troll because Hopsin is the go-to example of a bad underground artist. In fact, if you were to make a thread on one of those type sites asking people to name the worst underground rapper they can think of, I guarantee you that Hopsin will be one of the first artists to be brought up.The thing is, those sites are made up of the core Hip-Hop fanbase. These are the consumers that devote enough of their time to and energy to the culture to actually be able to collectively influence it. Starting and ending trends. Launching or strengthening an artist’s career, etc.Sure, there are one-hit wonder’s like Silento. Then there are people like Flo Rida who are seen as trash by the community, but still go on because they appeal to people who don’t have much to do with Hip-Hop culture (i.e. Pop radio fans). But Hopsin just doesn’t seem anything like Flo Rida to me. Unless he becomes a better artist, he’s not really going to be able to appeal to much of anybody. Not sure what it has to do with Young Thug. But Thugger is a critically acclaimed artist. Very versatile vocalist. He’s a guy who not only makes music that is seen as having artistic value by the core fanbases, he’s also somebody who makes music that appeals to a general enough audience.

How the fvck do people actually like chance the rapper? What the fvck has happened to hip hop?

Chance the Rapper is a solid rapper, who is talented with his lyrics. Don't be thrown off by the voice, enjoy it.

-----------EDIT-----------------
Ah, didn't realize you were the same person. Hey Antony, I think this will be a good discussion.

Anyway I love Chance the Rapper. He bends words to make the whole line rhyme. For example, I literally looked up on rap genius his top songs, clicked one and the first few lines boom. Brain Cells, it was a random click but it was, in all honesty a good choice because he does it a lot in this song. Haha!

"The flabbergasted avalanche of ambulances near
The labyrinth of Pan’s Lab is adamantly here".

I love multi-syllabic rhyming a lot, and this man is filled with it. His voice is the most annoying voice out of all the rappers I know, and more annoyingly it sticks in my head. However, I enjoy listening to a song or two of his before I get annoyed - kinda like Drum and Bass or Dubstep.

He's a smart lyricist and I don't see you hate him, mind judging Hip Hop through him. Ironically I used that Immortal Technique line against a Lil Wayne love rant on here a few days ago. It's also used in a Lil Wayne diss by Angry Mic, who's solid with lyrics too.

Compare Chance with (new age) Lil Wayne. Chance is great in comparison. He doesn't get loads of love, it's not like he's overrated, but what love he does get - I think he deserves.

Kinda went on a rant rather than answering your point, but an answer is tucked away in there somewhere - I'm sure!

RHH: What's so great about "Acid Rap" by Chance, the Rapper?

Alot of people put this tape on their top mixtapes this year. I think the project is dope and it's a solid tape and everything like a 3/5 but It wasn't great. Sure that crazy ODB like flow is done well sometimes (though most of the time he over does it and some of the beats are wasted) and all but what did it do new or great? I'm talking bout the music itself, not the fact that he was on acid during the recording.

BQ: Top 10 mixtapes?
BQ: You gonna peep D5? Heard it's like his old self. I'm so excited.

Rap & Hip Hop: Is Noname the best female rapper in the game right now? (BQ's)?

So a few months ago, I came across this female MC from Chicago who goes by the name of Noname. She's in her mid 20's and I discovered her through Chance the Rapper. And back in July, she dropped her debut mixtape, "Telefone" so I decided to check it out and I was completely blown away by it. This thing truly might be mixtape of the year. The funny thing is, I've been meaning to post this on here in months and I kept on forgetting. So now here is the question, here are two tracks from her mixtape and tell me what you think! If you like it, I highly reccomend checking out her tape. Musically she has a heavy Common, Late Registration Kanye, and Erykah Badu influence in her music so if you like that type of sound, you should like Noname.

Diddy Bop seriously might be my song of the year. It's soooo good imo. And even though Raury bites Andre 3000's style harder than anyone I've seen, he has bars.

BQ's:

BQ1: How do you feel about her potential as an MC and an artist?

BQ2: Buy or Sell: Chi City has more depth of dope rappers than any other city in hip hop

BQ3: Who is the most stereotypical rapper in your opinion? Like when you think about a rapper what do you see and think? Cam'Ron always comes to mind with me for example.

Why do underground rappers/ fans hate mainstream?

Because they are trying to be different. I don't hate mainstream rap, but I don't really like it.
I listen to 90s rap mostly. Rappers were better back then. My favorite rapper is 2pac.
But I can listen to some new stuff. Now I listen to Macklemore - Can't Hold Us and it is really good.
Bad Meets Evil has some good songs like Fast Lane and Lighters. I actually like some Lil Wayne and Drake songs because they are fun. The point of today's rap is to be fun. The point of old rap was being political and deep. There is plenty of new rap songs that I like but I can't list every of them here.
I don't listen to underground rap. Hopsin is the biggest underground I listen to, and he ain't underground no more.
I hope I answered your question :D

I'm stuck in the 90s golden era hip-hop. What current rappers should I listen to? Are there any underground artists that are especially respected?

I admire your desire to learn of contemporary Hip-Hop artists, especially with you being a big fan of golden-era Hip-Hop; It's common for die-hards of that particular era to be pretty close-minded about music.I feel that the guy who told you to 'stay in the golden era' meant well and made a couple of great points, but had small conflicting statements within his answer (like the one mentioned above). Here's my take on this matter:I've learned that, with Rap, it can be a good idea to give some people the benefit of the doubt, at least initially. Even the artists you mentioned made 'materialistic, generic' work, at some point, and had you heard that before their great works, you probably wouldn't be a fan of theirs. I can see how the super-braggadocious, money-driven leanings of Drake and Lil' Wayne could annoy one to look past the fact that they're easily two of the most technically skilled Rap artists today.  Given that you seem to like the 'style' and 'feel' of golden-era hip-hop, you might like Jay Electronica (a lot), J. Cole (especially his early works), RATKING, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Big Krit, Flatbush Zombies, Chance the Rapper, Blu, Fashawn, or Joey Bada$$. Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco are probably two of the best popular, modern-day examples of the golden-era artists you listed, though there's a chance that Kanye may rub you the wrong way.As much as I hate to give the greedy fuckers credit, internet radio stations (Pandora, Last.fm, etc)are treasure troves for artist (unknown to you)that you might love, since they base what's played off of what you already like.I hope this helps; I could've went further into detail, but I'll spare you the short story.
