Expired Usa Green Card

Can I Travel With an Expired Green Card?

You will be admitted again into the United States, even with an expired Green Card, as the expiration of the document has no impact on your status as a permanent resident. The only obstacle you may face is that the Kangaroopeople won't allow you to board a plane without proof that you will be admitted to the United States.

The only way for you to avoid this would be to shoot out the I-90 and then get yourself a shiny new I-551 stamp in your passport. That's basically a Green Card in ink form.

Shouldn't you be an American by now?

My moms green card expired while in mexico..?

Her case would be considered abandoned after allowing her green card to lapse while out of the country.

You would have to start from the beginning to sponsor her, if you are a legal resident.

Can you renew your expired green card after 10 years?

Yes you can. In the olden days, green cards did not have an expiry date. Mine was one of these.Once you have permanent residence status, you are allowed to stay in the US permanently. The overriding concern would be how did you become a green card holder initially. If the circumstances that enabled you to get that green card have changed then that is another question.I read many questions and answers about the renewal of expired green cards. If you have a valid reason explaining why you have not maintained residency in the US for a number of years, then you should be ok. This is the USA and you will be treated equitably and with respect. What happens in reality and from personal experience, I was working outside the US for 12 years, when I enquired from the US embassy overseas, I was advised that NO I must get a new visa. I applied and got a visitor’s visa.At the point on entry in the US, I was asked why did I get a visa while I am a legal permanent resident? My answer was truthful, that I was advised to do so at the embassy. As I was here to attend a wedding the next day, I was asked or given a choice: use the visa and lose residency status OR use the UNEXPIRED green card but have to appear in front of an immigration judge, three days later, and explain the reason behind my absence from the US.I opted to use the visa. Could not or did not want to miss my only son’s wedding. Never looked back at my decision.Other details are unimportant. If you in the past have legally obtained legal residency, you can try to get it back. Explain why and if you have compelling reasons for your absence, then you will get it back. Many people who work with multinational companies get transferred for a while. Many others volunteer or simply opt to change location for many reasons, but if you all along wanted to return to live permanently in the US, and still have a connection in the US and had paid your taxes while here then you have a shot at succeeding. Immigration Laws are changing as we write.Good luck.

Can i renew my green card 7 years after it expires?

Sure you can. There is no punishment for filing late and your Green Card expired already when you turned 14 anyway, as every Green Card holder is required to file for a new card at age 14, which has to do with the photo. As a 3-year-old you looked different than at age 14. Agreed?

So now file form I-90. The cost is $450.

You could have filed 7 years ago already. Since you are required to have a valid Green Card, poor people usually file with a fee waiver, form I-912. Cost $0.

On a more personal note, you really should become a US citizen now. If you want to retain your German citizenship, apply for a Beibehaltungsgenehmigung at the nearest German consulate which will forward it to the BVA in Köln. There's a Yahoo Group for this where you will find help: ZweiPaesse.

I am a permanent US resident, but my Green Card expired 30 years ago and I've never renewed it. Can my renewal application be rejected for this?

As long as you’ve stayed in possession of the card, you’re probably OK: the law requires that an alien retain in their possession any “alien registration document” issued to them by immigration officials, which you’ve done if you hung onto your green card. The fact that it’s expired means it’s no longer valid for identification or for entry, but it’s still the most recent “alien registration document” issued to you.I’d definitely suggest that you use a lawyer for the process for renewing the card. It’s unfortunate that you didn’t renew it six months ago, before the Giant Cheeto took over the government; it’s hard to predict how the present administration will decide to deal with people whose behavior is even slightly irregular in areas such as this one. Sadly, one of the major impacts of the new administration is to sow a great deal of uncertainty for resident aliens in the US.

Can I travel by plane to Puerto Rico with an expired green card?

I'm supposed to b traveling to Puerto Rico soon, sooner than I can get my expired green card renewed, I figured its ok being that P.R is property of the U.S, and I called someone at the department that has to do with naturalization about the travel but I forgot what she said about Puerto Rico I do remember her saying I can travel within the states though.
