Extreme Knee Pain Help

Extreme pain my left knee cap?

More than likely you have patella femoral syndrome, it is the most common cause of anterior(front) knee pain.

Patella femoral syndrome is caused by an imbalance in your quadriceps(muscles in your thigh) two of the muscles in your thigh work together to pull your patella(knee cap) up a groove in your femur(thigh bone), but sometimes one will start pulling more than the other and grind your patella into your femur. Symptoms include pain located on the sides of the kneecap, discomfort under the patella, sometimes mild swelling and occasional popping of the knee. Running, sprinting, jumping, going up and down stairs, and squatting are all things that can increase patella femoral pain. Anyway it is know by many names: runner's knee, jumper's knee, swimmer's knee, etc. I have a way to get rid of it, and it doesn't involve surgery or taking medicine just dedication on your part. If it turns out that this is what is wrong and it continues to bother you just leave a comment at the bottom of your question or email me and I will give you the instructions.

Sharp Knee Pain! Help.?

I'm not a doctor, so this coming just from my personal experience.

It could be something as simple as an inflamed nerve or joint. More likely it's something like a torn meniscus (the cartilage in your knee joint) or even a torn or strained ACL or MCL. Given that it's already been a month or more since you started having the pain, you really should make an appointment to see and orthopedist. They can do and MRI and/or other tests to find out if it just needs rest or if you might need surgery.

EDIT
Another thought is that you could have a bone chip or something else floating around in your knee joint.

For what it's worth, I have had surgery for both a torn ACL and a torn meniscus. The meniscus was just a scope where I when home the same day and was back to normal in a couple weeks. The ACL was a major surgery and it took close to 4 months to get back to normal.

Numb but extreme knee pain?

You should probably use the RICE method of treatment.

Rest: Resting an injury is important immediately after injury.

Ice: Use a cold pack, crushed ice or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel to provide cold. An ice massage is also helpful. Cold helps with pain relief and limits swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area. Never apply ice directly to the skin (unless it is moving as in ice massage) and never leave ice on an injury for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Compression: Compression helps limit and reduce swelling, and sometimes helps with pain relief. You can use an ACE bandage. If you feel throbbing, or if the wrap feels too tight, remove the bandage and re-wrap it a little looser.

Elevation: Elevating an injury help control swelling. It's most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of the heart. For example, if you injure an ankle, try lying on your bed with your foot propped on one or two pillows.

Sharp Pain In left Knee! help!?

hi everyone, whenever i bend down to pick something up, and then straighten up again a really sharp pain goes through my knee, and it hurts so bad it makes me gasp and fall over. and i also have to limp slightly when walking because of it, and i can barely walk up or down the stairs. i find it really worrying because its not as if i have old joints. im only 13! its started happening ever since i started to go on my trampoline everyday. i took a break from it for a few days but each day it seems to get worse. im really annoyed because at school i always take part in the 100m sprint race, and im quite a fast runner. but i can barely walk, let alone run! ive asked my parents if they could take me to see my doctor, but they don't think its serious enough. whats wrong with me?? please help.

Unresolved severe knee pain... HELP!!!?

I have been going back and forth between Emergency Rooms and orthopedic surgeons with a knee that locks up and pops and now causes severe chronic pain and extreme swelling of the lower leg and foot. This all started the first week of October, it locked and popped a few times and there was pain but I could return to walking on it. My first emergency room trip got us a physical therapy referral, they thought it was a torn meniscus. PT made the pain worse which ended us back in the ER and a referral to an orthopedic surgeon. They did an MRI w/o contrast that showed nothing. We asked him why the knee was even locking and popping and painful. We got an "I don't know" and he referred us to a pain clinic. This is now the 3rd week of October, I can still walk on the knee with minimal pain. Saw the pain clinic doctor who suggested a sympathetic nerve block because they feel it is RSD. Had a total of 4 needles jammed in my back 5 inches deep with no sedation and had no pain relief. He then suggested gabapentin which I did not start taking because I am breast feeding a 3 month old. Then a week from this last Friday I locked the knee up entirely. It literally felt like my bones in the top of the lower leg and ligaments behind my paella were moving. Painful to the point I screamed straightening it. I went to the ER again and explained all of what had happened. They did an exam with full ROM and said to get to another surgeon because something was wrong. We scheduled with a different clinic hoping for a fresh perspective. Today the surgeon once again told me he didn't know what was wrong and said I needed to stretch it and a possible cortisone shot but he offered no other diagnostic help. When I asked about the swelling he said my ace wrap was too tight! I'm a strong girl but I know how to use an ace wrap and the foot and calf are swollen even after I take it off to sleep and in the morning. I am at my wits end and can't even walk on it anymore. I just want my life back. Please help!!!

Sharp knee pain?

I'ma keep this short, about 4 days ago I was doing squats when I felt a sharp pain in my right knee. I tried doing more and after that first pain it wouldn't go away. The pain only occurs when I put pressure on my right knee like doing squats or crouching, if I sit or even stand and I bend my right knee I don't feel a thing, I also don't feel random pain in my knee at all either. I barely feel anything when I go up or down stairs. It's only whenever I pretty much exercise the knee. I don't really exercise that often and I really wanted to start but now this hinders me even exercising. Any thoughts?
