Eye Remedy For Cat Problem

My male cat has a terrible eye problem, looks like his eye is rotting out, don't have much money for vet, help

You need to take him to a vet ASAP. He may have an infection and it could spread. Is you cat skinny too, if so he may be severally dehydrated. I hate to say it but if you can't afford to properly care for your cat including afford to take him to the vet then maybe having a pet is not such a good idea. I have 8 cats, 2 dogs, and a horse all are spayed/neutered, and see the vet yearly. I understand you probably love your cat,but love only goes so far he needs medical attention too.

Is there any home remedies for cat eye infections?

If the cats are strays they would be difficult to handle and apply any sort of medication to their eyes. The only way you could do this is to capture them and wind them up in a towel and they apply the stuff.

It truly depends on what the problem is with the cats eyes. If its conjunctivitis (an irritation or infection of the conjunctiva or the inner eye membrane) which is quite common with strays.
Then its best to apply an antibiotic salve like tetracycline to the eyes. They are small tubes of ointment that the Vet would sell to you for twelve to twenty dollars.
The only other way to get around this is to try to clean around the eyes with baby wipes or a warm cloth to remove the secretions from the eye. Sometimes artificial tears meant for humans have been known to help.
Applying anything to a stray cats eyes will be difficult, they do not like to be handled very much. I've done it, but catching a stray twice a day and cleaning its eyes is quite hard unless you are very committed.
Good luck to you and thanks for caring for a stray, its people like you that make this world a better place to live in (:)

My Himalayan cat has a really bad eye problem...What is it? Ringworm or infection?

It sounds like a common eye infection that has gotten bad enough to be causing corneal ulcers. Cleaning the eye and regular application of antibiotic ointment are usually the first treatment methods the vet will have you try. Generally, it takes at least several days of treatment to start seeing improvement. Corneal ulcers, depending on how serious they are, usually end up as a whitish spot (scar tissue) when they are healed. (I've found plain saline eye drops for people to be good for washing out a cat's eye before putting antibiotic ointment in.) Usually when you put the ointment into the eye, the cat will rub at the eye which helps massage the ointment into the tissues.

If your cat resists being treated, wrap the cat in a towel with only the head sticking out. Then he can't struggle and fight and it makes treatment much easier to do.

Is there a natural remedy I can use to ease a cat's eye infection?

If the infection is caused by the herpes virus (half of them usually are, the other half are from calci viruses) you can home treat that with 250 mg of lysine powdered (crushed the pill with a spoon) and sprinkled over their food for 5-7 days. Usually by day 3 there's a significant improvement and the eyes are good after 7 days.

If you treat for the herpes virus and see no improvement, it's a good bet the cat has a calci virus or a different kind. Lysine works wonderfully for the herpes but won't touch the others.

If the eyes are very bad, you can go up to 500mg a day for the cat, it's not something that will be toxic if a heavier dose is given. Lysine is cheap, at the grocery store in the vitamin section, it runs something like $4 for 60 pills, for the generic form. AND it works on cold sores for us, too. It's good to have in the medicine cabinet.

Fat cat with bulging eyes?

It is extraordinarily rare for a cat to be hypothyroid. (It is however common in certain breeds of dogs). Cats can have thyroid issues - but its HYPERthyroid problems, not HYPOthyroid. Big difference. Hyperthyroid cats are usually older, very very hungry, and thin. They have a fast metabolism. Therefore, your cat does not have a thyroid problem.
I'm not sure what could be causing her wt gain, but I don't like how you've described her eyes as bulging. Definately need a Vet consult for that!
BTW - I have known some cats that are truly aggressive, and I do agree that if a cat has a history of stalking a person and biting them viciously without provocation, that they do need to be put down. This is a behaviour that isn't going to change, and it's dangerous. Its likely the other respondant has never met a cat that has exhibited aggression at that level - I mean most cats can and will bite, but not to the extreme that these nasty guys will.

Can I put regular eye drop in my cat's eyes?

Everywhere I look everyone says absoloutley not. But I do not see why if they are just regular ones to clean your eyes with? Not any allergy or cooling kind.

My cat has had this crust on the inside of her eyelid for a while and no I do not have money to take her to the vet! so why wouldn't i be able to just use regular eye drops to clean her eyes??

Cat scratched eye...go to vet? Heal on it's own?...

I think my older cat scratched my 18 week old kitten in the eye. I just noticed her eye is a little puffy and it seems to hurt her to open it...a lot like if a human got poked in the eye. Should I take her to the vet tonight or will it heal on it's own. I did call the vet and they didnt seem like it's an emergency. If it is still bad I will take her tomorrow. I just want some input from someone who might have had the same problem...Thanks!!!
