How old do you have to be to compete in the equestrian Olympics?

18 is the minimum age for people. 8 is the minimum age for horses.

What are some examples of famous horse back riders from around the world?

Edward Gal — Dutch dressage riderPedro Torres — Portuguese working equitation riderCharlotte Dujardin — British dressage riderReiner Klimke — Late German dressage rider(Their victory lap at the 1984 Olympics was too good not to include)Karen O’Connor — American eventerAnky van Grunsven — Dutch dressage rider/reinerMichael Jung — German eventerBeezie Madden — American show jumperEric Lamaze — Canadian show jumperIsabell Werth — German dressage riderAlois Podhajsky — Late former director of the Spanish Riding School in ViennaNuno Oliveira — Late master of equitationStacy Westfall — American reinerThis is only a small sample of famous riders. You’ll note I’m biased towards the English disciplines, specifically dressage. Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the top riders of the Western disciplines. Just because I’ve listed a rider here does not mean I agree with their style of training, only that they were famous enough I thought of him or her off of the top of my head. I have also left off a number of riders that I consider famous, but the average equestrian would probably have never heard of (Xavier Lesage for example).

What is a dish that originates from Australian cuisine that no other countries can claim?

Lamingtons. The identity of the lamington’s inventor has been debated. Most stories attribute its creation to Lord Lamington's chef, the French-born Armand Galland, who was called upon at short notice to feed unexpected guests. Using only the limited ingredients available, Galland cut up some leftover sponge cake baked the day before, dipped the slices in chocolate and rolled them in coconut. Impressed by Galland's creation, Lamington's guests were said to have later asked for the recipe. This version of events is supported by Lady Lamington's memoirs.

How can I control my asthma to be able to be fit again?

I was getting my time for my mile run in my school and I was so stubborn to get a really fast time that I pushed myself hard enough to get an asthma attack, pass out, and have my blood pressure fall. (and I was still so stubborn I tried to keep running).

I'm an athletic person. I'm on a swim team that practices every day. But since that incident, my lungs can't seem to take even a few minutes of exercise. (but I still push myself to keep on swimming past the lack of air I'm receiving).

How can I control my asthma so I can get back to my previous state of health where I can run and swim for hours without feeling like I'm going to die from lack of air?

I've had asthma since I was born, and it also triggers from allergens and stuff, not just exercise. I have an emergency
inhaler. Should I stop pushing too hard? I feel if I don't keep on pushing past the pain in my chest and stuff, then my health won't get better. I'm scared I won't be able to do any sports anymore because my coaches are worried that my asthma is causing too many problems now.

When is it too late to start horse riding? I'm 19, and I've been riding on and off since I was 13.

Never!Riding is a lifelong pursuit, and one that is very good for keeping your mind and body sharp as you age. Granted, you may have too great a sense of self preservation as you age to ride the hot horses or jump the big jumps, but that shouldn’t be a barrier to starting.By starting as an adult, you’ll likely have better control over you body, which will make the process of learning easier. You’ll also likely know how to learn: when to switch to different instructors, how to ask questions, and how to parse good and bad information. That gives you a bit of an advantage over someone who started at a young age. However, don’t expect the beginnings of riding to go quickly! You’ll want to put in many hours learning about horse care and horsemanship, perfecting your seat with and without stirrups, and schooling your hands. It’s always an ongoing process.Riding doesn’t involve brute force; proper riding is the antithesis of brute force. This means that one doesn’t have to be a perfectly fit 20 year old to be the best rider. While general fitness makes riding much easier on you and your horse, it can be a great low-impact (well, assuming you’re not falling off) way for older men and women to maintain fitness especially core strength and balance. The first horse I ever leased I leased from a woman who was still regularly foxhunting in her seventies. My instructor at the time had a friend, who passed away two years ago at the age of 98, who competed in show jumping into his seventies, and only gave up riding completely in his eighties. Even in his late nineties his mental acuity was stunning. He was always one to watch your lesson and give you quick tips and words of encouragement when you were feeling stuck. I have no doubt that that ability to stay on his game so well at such an age had to due with the mental skills it takes to ride and train at the levels he did. Here’s a video of a 90 year old endurance rider explaining how horses keep him young: Horse Floats Australia - Timeline

What sport can a man start at 35 years old and make it world class?

As others have suggested, shooting and archery are possible candidates, since they rely less on physical conditioning than on steady reflexes and clear vision. Assuming you still have both by the time you are ready to go for gold.Equestrian is probably not realistic. Top quality equestrians are born, not made. They are completely surrounded by horses and horse culture from an early age. It is part of their blood. If you haven't felt the call by now, you aren't likely to.I am going to go out on a limb and suggest…judo.Unlike taekwondo or karate (which is being considered for addition in future games), which are “hard" martial artforms which emphasize power and meeting force with force, judo is a “soft" form which emphasizes redirecting one's opponent's force against him. Because of this, age is not necessarily an issue in Judo. Many older Judoka can wipe up the mat with kids half their age.If you have any natural ability in the form at all, practice diligently, and compete as often as possible, you ought to be able to get to a suitable rank for rhe olympics in, say, 15 years or so.
