Fan Always Running On Maximum

My cpu is 32 degrees celsius and my cpu fan is running at about 2400 rpms. is this normal?

Not sure about the other guy, but what cpu gets all the up there, i am running core 2 duo overclocked and it is at 22 degrees celcius. But your 32 degrees is perfectly fine.

2008 Jeep Hydraulic Fan Always Running?

I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L with a Hydraulic Cooling Fan, ie. fan is driven by the Power steering Pump. Problem is that It is running at high Speed all the time except at Idle. I understand that the fan has a minimum Fluid flow which will turn the fan at 100-500 RPM, But my fan anywhere off idle is running at thousands of rpm, very loud. It doesn't matter if the engine is cold, AC off, even cruising at highway speeds in Cool weather. Not towing anything? Don't understand, any ideas appreciated.

How do I keep my laptop fan running always?

Reboot your computer. Then enter the BIOS by pressing the bios key ( typically such a key is "Delete," "F1" or "F2 “or"ESC”Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to get to the BIOS setup menu called "Hardware monitor." Then press the "Enter" key.Go to option "CPU Fan" and press "Enter."Look through CPU fan options available in your BIOS. The common settings are "auto" (the fan speed is adjusted accordingly the processor temperature), "silent" (minimizes the fan speed to make your computer quiet) and "maximum" (sets the highest speed). Select a desired option for the CPU fan and press "Enter." than restart the system

My laptop fan just keeps running?

You say you checked task manager to check for running programs; what was the CPU utilization at? It should be under 5% if your not running any intensive programs. If it's running at 50% or higher, then click on the CPU tab, while in processes in task manager until you get the programs using the highest resources CPU utiliazation at the top of the list and end task anything that shouldn't be working the CPU hard; the fan should stop or slow down shortly afterwards. The name of the process should give you a clue as to what program it is, but if it isn't obvious, then run some adaware/spyware removal software as that is most often the cause.

The other thing that can cause it is if the heatsink for the CPU gets clogged up with dust; depending on what model of laptop you have, it may be as easy as removing a panel on the bottom of the laptop to remove the fan and heatsink to clean it. If you do remove the heatsink, be careful not to wipe off the silver compound which will be on the top of the CPU and the bottom of the heatsink, as this is what ensures the heat is transferred from the CPU into the heatsink. You can remove it if you buy some Artic silver compound or similar, available from most computer stores and reapply a small amount on reassemby.

More unlikely is a setting in the laptops BIOS or a program like a fan control/temp monitor program may be causing the fan to run at full speed, but only if you recently installed such a program just before the problem started or if you fiddled in the laptops BIOS recently.

And lastly, try turning off windows update in the control panel; sometimes the background update process can cause the laptop CPU to run at 100% for no apparent reason. If turning windows update off stops the fan running at max, then download and reapply service pack 2 if you use Windows XP which usually solves that issue.

Hope that helps.

Would it hurt or help my gaming laptop to keep its fans running at max speed?

The fan doesn't need to be on continually.Fans normally run when the temperature reaches a preset upper level and automatically turns off when it's done it's job. To leave it on maximum all the time is inviting trouble. Most Gamers wear headphones anyway so they don't hear the noise.Fans only have one moving part, the ball bearings (you thought I was going to say the blades didn't you?). The ball bearings are pre-greased during manufacturing and when it's continually running, the constant spinning wears out the grease, burns out the bearings and the plastic it's set in. When that happens, you’ll hear grinding and the temperature will rise… FAST. Which will force the fan to try to spin and will fail. Then it might give you a pop up message saying there's a temp warning. If it can't cool off, it might be preset to shut itself off as a safety measure. Leaving you with a very expensive brick!Fans are not replaced by the consumer. It's done by a trained, certified technician (like me). If it's under warranty, you have nothing to worry about (other than you can't use the laptop until the fan gets replaced). If it's out of warranty, you're stuck for the cost, and you can't use it until it's replaced.Let the BIOS set the fan to run only when it's necessary. You’ll extend the life of your fan and it’ll cool your system just fine.

Can I run a computer fan faster than its max RPM?

So now someone wants to “overclock” their fan? It’s likely possible but not necessarily practical. Most computer fan speeds are voltage controlled (3-pin connector) or PWM (pulse width modulation) controlled (4-pin connector).DC fans go faster as the voltage increases, as it makes their electromagnets more powerful, thus, faster turning, at least as long as it’s possible based on bearing friction, coil capacity, etc. Too much speed or voltage and you may burn it out.The PWM is basically a low power pulse that causes the fan to kick in or “coast” based on the duty cycle, always running at the full voltage. It achieves the same end result.Your problem here is that the maximum rpm rating is at full voltage or 100% duty. To go faster, you probably need a higher voltage than the +12V hard wired into your fans via the PC main board connectors. My advice: buy a fan designed to go faster, or get a larger fan or more fans if you need more cooling. It’s actualy the airflow you care about, and a larger fan can deliver more airflow at lower speeds. My PC here is really quiet and cool, because I have 140mm and 200mm fans, liquid cooling, etc. Not because they run fast.

How to stop the white rodgers thermostat fan from running even on auto?

If the fan runs all the time. Two things come to mind here. Either A. the thermostat is set up in the advance installer settings and has been set to run the fan ALL the time. B. Your fan limit has gone bad and is stuck so the fan is running all the time.

Either one or the other is the issue. I would venture A would be the problem esp if you installed it or paid someone to install it.
