Fans Of The Band Eels

Bands like 30 seconds to mars & queen?

Die-hard 30STM fans - like myself - would tell you their really aren't any bands 'like' 30STM, which is one of the reasons we love them so much. And come to think of it, I really can't think of a band like Queen. Both bands are very eclectic in their styles and music compilations.

For bands that are eclectic (many styles & integrations of sound), make sure to go through these bands' songs, because if you don't like one song by them, you might like another (in some cases I've made some songs suggestions to start with):

Black Lab (Anything, Remember, Weightless, Bring It On, This Night, The Pain Is Gone, Tell Me Why, The Moon, Always, & too many others to mention)
Linkin Park (Iridescent, Shadow Of The Day, In The End, The Catalyst)
Ringside (Struggle,Tired Of Being Sorry, Dayglo, Money, Criminal)
Phoenix (Lisztomania, 1901, Lasso, Rome)
Ryan Star (Brand New Day, Last Train Home)
OneRepublic (Marchin' On, Waking Up, All Fall Down, Secrets)
Neon Trees (Animal, 1983)
Collective Soul
Florence + The Machine (Dog Days Are Over, Drumming Song, Howl)
Remy Zero
Lifehouse (The Joke, Everything, First Time)
City Archaic
3 Doors Down
Needtobreathe (Through Smoke, Lay 'Em Down)
Vega4
Civil Twilight
Elevation
Kings Of Leon
Coldplay

BANDS THAT HAVE some STUFF WORTH CHECKING OUT:
The Killers
Foo Fighters
Eels
Snow Patrol
Five Finger Death Punch (Far From Home)
Moby
Augustana (Boston, etc)
Muse
Spoon (Got Nuffin')
Blink 182
My Chemical Romance (Sing)
Revive
Death Cab For Cutie
Dashboard Confessional
Sons Of Sylvia

BANDS THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND A WHILE, BUT STILL DESREVE MENTIONING:
Goo Goo Dolls (John Rzeznik)
Creed (Scott Stapp)
Pearl Jam (Eddie Vedder)
Depeche Mode
Gavin Rossdale (Bush)
The Calling
Peter Gabriel ('In Your Eyes', 'Red, Red, Rain', etc)
Crowded House
Noiseworks (big in Australia)

OLDIES BUT GOODIES:
Chalk Farm (Notwithstanding album - totally underrated, little-known band - mp3 available on Amazon)
The Cure
INXS (the original NOT the revamp)
Jesus Jones
The Hooters
Wang Chung
Echo & The Bunnymen
Paul Kelly & The Messangers
The Clash

Huevo's band of the day?

Love the Eels - but it definitely takes a certain reminiscent mood to be in to really get into it... might just be me.

My favorite might actually be their double album Blinking Lights... My friends, who are also fans of the band, have put it down, saying that it's overlong and lacks a structure, or that if you've heard one Eels album, you've heard them all. I disagree...

I've said this elsewhere before, but it's how I really feel about the album. It's like sitting down with a shoebox full of old photos, rather than having them neatly organized and glued into an album. You pull out a photo and it sparks a memory, of childhood, of lost love, etc. All of them are out of order, thrown into the box. You pull out a picture of your friend's wedding, then your first day of school, then your dormmates in college. I think it's stronger for this quality, rather than being hampered by it.

One of my favorites from that album -
I'm Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart

Anyway - I don't think I've been around for some of your band's of the day recently, but great share, man.

R&P: what would your tribute album for your favourite band be like?

So some random dude in the street comes up to you whilst you're wearing your favourite band's shirt and he wants a fan to make that particular bands tribute album, you say you'd love to do it because well there wouldn't be any point to this question.. so..

1. Who's your favourite band?
2. Pick 5 to 10 bands/ artists and what songs of your favourite bands you'd want them to cover..
3. What's the name of the album?
4. What would the album cover be like?
5. The overall theme for this album in one word?

What’s your favorite band NAME (not necessarily your favorite band)?

Okay, here’s my take on this, I’m gonna struggle for ten that aren’t named yet, then maybe keep going. No promises. At first I was just gonna provide a list but it’s super rainy here today so I’ll get some song examples too.Waldo The Dog Faced Boy I wish the music was as good as the band name. Yeah, no! They can be on or off, and this is one of their better ones.“Convoy”Monster Magnet They are definately cool.“Space Lord”Bush Tetras I saw them in 1981 at The Whiskey during what I refer to as “my lost year.” Good band.“Cowboys In Africa”The Cramps I love the band and the name, saw them the same night I saw Bush Tetras only that gig was at The Roxy. So, you can walk from one venue to the other on The Strip and we did because we weren’t done yet. I said it was “my lost year” sheeesh . . .“All Tore Up”Pretty Girls Make Graves They took that from The Smiths who took it from Jack Kerouac’s “The Dharma Bums”“Speakers Push Air”Dharma Bums Of course there has to be a band called Dharma Bums, and there is!“Pumpkinhead”. . . And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead ( Nice use of ellipsis eh?) Haven’t heard them? Check out their album “Source Tags And Codes” it’s as good a place to start as any.“How Near, How Far”Say Hi To Your Mom My entry for them was their song “The Fritz.” You could do worse, give it a listen.“The Fritz”Guided By Voices I know I am, my own inner voice told me to include this.“Motor Away”Mission Of Burma No, they aren’t called Mission Of Myanmar now. I’ll always reach for this.“That’s When I Reach For My Revolver”Hey, that wasn’t a struggle.Clap Your Hands Say Yeah This song is super awesome even if they do invoke HIS name a lot near the end. It’s just a word take it easy.“Satan Said Dance”Ratatat They were huge for me in 2006 and I still like them now. Nice kitty. One more gives us a baker’s dozen, I’ve been going through my notebook where I write down all the cool stuff I heard for a few years. I hope that isn’t cheating?Hell no! Last one.Massive Attack and the very cool.“Karmacoma”

What are some hipster-ish bands/artists?

"Hipster" is a term lazy music listeners who play the same crap over and over and over again use as an insult against devoted music fans who put a lot off effort into finding good quality music that is ignored by the mass media. It is a stupid term.

So sorry, I have to boycott your question. Had you phrased it differently, i would have been happy to share some excellent bands with you that you may not have had an opportunity to hear yet.
