Fasting In The North Pole

Were Quran unaware of the people at the poles? Eskimo fasting till night?

Give the book a break it was only written by a man who died end of story like all religions which are written by mankind The Holy Bible was written by 40 different writing 66 books and they were all people from different nations over a 1500 year period all books coming together perfectly in events and meaning and also being one hundred percent accurate in all prophecies written and end time prophecies lining up to the way this world is changing , so if a person decides to seek the truth instead of a life of emotions you would know that beond the Holy Bible it is all just speculations with very little credibility

What are the hours of fasting during Ramadam?

There is a lot of variation in the hours of fasting during Ramadan. By definition, the time goes from dawn to sunset (fajr to maghrib). But the length of the day varies by season. In North America, most people are used to short days in winter and long days in summer. Also, the length of the day varies based on latitude. In a recent Ramadan, the fasts of Oslo, Norway were 20 hours long (Figures from 2017, Ramadan 2017: Fasting hours around the world). In London, 18.5 hours. In New York, 16.5 hours. In Canberra, Australia’s capital, just 11.5 hours.Yet these numbers won’t hold. The Islamic calendar’s year is 354 days, or 11.25 less than the Gregorian (the 0.25 accounts for leap years once in four years). So eventually Ramadan will be in winter and the fasts will be short, especially in the northern latitudes.

Would a Muslim fast during Ramadam if he lived in the North Pole and had 2 consecutive months of daylight?

It is a possibility and it must have an answer.Because a muslim should fast in the holy month of Ramadan, and in the same time fasting for two months is impossible so the islamic scholars studied this problem and the most popular solution was to follow the nearest country which have a day and a night in 24 hours (Usually these countries fast in summer for 19 hours give or take).

If I was to travel 1000km north of New York, how do I find out the sunrise and sunset times?

This should do it for you: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_One...

Note that you'll need to get approximate latitude and longitude for each of the places, but that should be pretty easy.

This one will do it by city name, so it's probably easier: http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss...

What do you think of China banning fasting during Ramadan?

1 china did not banning the ramadan, but if you work for the goverment you should be atheism. also public school and hospital are banned from ramadan.2 the holy books are very vage about the right age for fasting. since it only wrote that when a child enter puberty. so when do puberty start are differrent from child to child. the holy book also say the same thing about married. but we all agree that the right age is 18 for married so why not 18 for fasting.3 xinjiang are in the north of china. it is very close to the north pole so when ramadan start in some monthe when there is 18 hours of sunlight. it would be difficult to fast. same thing happen in Iceland and Norway. they do not fast for 18 hours non stop. but Muslims may follow Mecca time.4 since no one are buying stuff any more during day time. some shopowner do close down there shop early at time. that would be cheating accourding to the profeet. so the shop should stay open and the should contining as normal as possible.5 some old people do not think Diabetes is a diseases so they also keep on fasting that may harm there body.6 muslims calender do not work well in modern day outside of the arab world. since arab world are in the equator so during the ramadan it is a ok weather, but going in the north would be hot like hell. maybe 30 celcius.

When did Muslims first realise that fasting in or near polar regions would be kinda dumb?

The primary source of Islamic Law is Quran followed by Hadith. But It is obvious that all the answers won't be found in Quran or Hadith. For instance Laws regarding TestTube Baby or Space travel. This is why Prophet Muhammad kept two other sources of Law in islam which are Ijma and Qiyas. Ijma means agreement of scholars and Qiyas means deductive analogy. So when muslims needed answers about fasting where sun doesn't set for days they only went to the scholars.

Why did Allah make salat and fasting so inconvenient for people living near the poles?

The prophet of Islam Mohammad(pbuh) had prophesized that in the days of Dajjal, which means when the Christian powers will start to rise, Muslims will reach areas where sun will stay up for days, weeks and months, and they should set their times for salat according to their ease. [1]This also points out that when you go in places where there are different times, e.g. on Moon, other planets, or just in space, you set time according to your situation. So the instructions for the future Muslims were given clearly 1400 years ago, and the fiqqa which follows today, using which Muslims adjust their times to Mecca or other cities, is based on these instructions of the prophet(pbuh). It also shows that the prophet(pbuh) was given knowledge of the future, knowledge that Islam won't die, knowledge that Islam will spread and Muslims will reach such distant and unheard of places, knowledge about the areas where sun rise and sunset times were nothing less than fiction for the local (Arabs I mean) and how to adjust salat (and fast, since fasting is associated with salat times). All these prophecies also show the truthfulness of Islam and the prophet Mohammad(pbuh).———[1] - ...0 servant of Allah! adhere (to the path of Truth). We said: Allah's Messenger, how long would he (dajjal) stay on the earth? He said.. For forty days, one day like a year and one day like a month and one day like a week and the rest of the days would be like your days. We said: Allah's Messenger, would one day's prayer suffice for the prayers of day equal to one year? Thereupon he said: No, but you must make an estimate of time (and then observe prayer). We said: Allah's Messenger, how quickly would he walk upon the earth? Thereupon he said: Like cloud driven by the wind. ... (Muslim, Bk 41, #7015)
