Fear Of Going Backwards In Back Handspring

Afraid to jump backwards to do a back handspring?!?

you just need to stay tight, keep your arms by your ears and look back! If you keep your arms by your ears then that means you wont be able to land on your head ;). and stay tight because you need to catch yourself eventually. and look back because thats just what you need to do in a back handspring ;)
make sure you have a spot the first couple of times. But if you dont have anyone there to spot you then just make sure you do it on a soft surface and not like cement or anything :).
hope i helped!!!!! and good luck :)

How to get over fear of going backwards on backhandsping and handless on Aerial and Front Aerial?

Well here are few simple training tricks that my friend who owns a prominent gymnastics school and has a background in coaching this gave me. For your front aerial and to keep from putting your hand down just grab the opposite side your shirt at the chest before you start your approach. That will keep you from getting your hand down in time and relying on that as you start to go over.

As for the back handspring that's a little harder in some ways because things like that are what they call blind techniques. The natural tendency to look and turning your head takes over and that of course causes you to turn out of it. Make sure you have someone spotting you to help you overcome this and developing your confidence to do it without turning your head. Hopefully you started first with learning simpler things like a back roll extension and keeping your head straight and doing things like back bends to develop the flexibility in your back. That is needed and might be one of the reasons why you are turning out of it.

The back handspring is especially dangerous because of the potential injury to the back of your head and neck. If you don't have someone that knows what they are doing spotting you then I would recommend that you look for a gymnastics place and pay for some time and lessons and they can help you learn these things more safely and better than just trying to learn them on your own.

How to get over the fear of doing a Back Handspring by myself?

I've been tumbling since the begining of last summer and i still dont have my back handspring on the ground. My coaches keep telling me that i have it by myself on the red floor( this floor has springs) but im terrified to do it. Yesterday i got a new coach and he pressured me into doing it by myself but it still felt like the spotter was still helping me.How can i get over the fear of doing a back handspring by myself (standing and roundoff back handspring) because i really want to do it for try outs so i only have 2 weeks!

How do I get over my fear of doing a back handspring?

So I'm 13 & everyone at my gymnastics studio my age can do a back handspring, except me. I can't even do one on the trampoline! My coaches say it's because I'm afraid to do it & they knew I could if I got over my fear. I'm just afraid of jumping backwards or something..I mean, I can do a front handspring, a front tuck, an aerial, & a sideflip, all on the ground. & I can do a back bend, but that's all for the backwards stuff. Unless you count flipping backwards after a head stand(; Anyways, PLEASE HELP! I HAVE THREE MONTHS TO LEARN THIS!

How can I conquer fear in doing a back handspring?

I love gymnastics, but do not have the time or money to take lessons or even go to a gym. I have always wanted to do cool tricks like the back handspring. My sister is trying to teach me, and she says she knows I could do it. But for some reason, which I have decided is fear, I cannot do it! I have been instructed with the techniques over and over. I cannot seem to bring myself over backwards and seem to freak out and stop. My backbends are good (I'm pretty sure? could there be a problem with them that is not helping?) Please help me! I want to do one so bad! How can I learn to overcome the fear and bring myself backward? I did it once and basically was so shocked that I stopped on my hands before pulling my feet all the way over. Since then I have still not been able to do it! I would greatly appreciate help and advice!

How can i get over the fear of jumping backwards in a back handspring?

Hi, i REALLY want to be able to do a back handspring on the ground at home. i have it perfect on the trampoline. But every time i go to do it on a mat or mattress i think about breaking my neck.

I want to learn at home without a spotter, i don't want to learn at my gymnastics club because im not going for 4 weeks.

The reason why i don't want a spotter is because, the last time my mum spotted me all my weight just collapsed on her and it hurt her arm badly.

So without a spotter, at home!

PLEASE HELP ME I REALLY WANT TO GET RID OF MY FEAR!!!!!

and thinking i can do it and thinking of happy places doesn't work for me.

Thanks x

I can't get over the fear of going backwards on a trampoline. When I don't have a spot I want to try to do a backflip but I don't have a back handspring. Do I have to have a back handspring to get a backflip? Is a backflip or a back handspring easier?

I learned to do a backflip at a trampoline park with the foam pit you can jump into. Start by just jumping into the pit backwards, then jump backwards and get your back parallel to the ceiling; next time do the same but when you’re looking at the ceiling, pull your knees to your chest and hold on until you hit the foam. Then just transition to doing your jump more vertical rather than horizontal. That at least got me over my fear of going backwards. From there you can work to doing it on a trampoline without the foam to doing it on the floor if you wish.

How can I not be scared to do a back handspring?

Gymnastics is a sport that will always have fear.Even the highest level gymnasts in our sport are afraid of skills. It isn’t a matter of not being afraid, but rather how to deal with you fear.Dealing with fear for each individual is different, and there isn’t one way that will work with everyone, but here are some of the techniques I use with my athletes.1: Go back to drills. If you are afraid of a skill (in your case a back handspring), go back to the last successful drill you can do.- Some drills for back handsprings: Handstand, fall to a hollow pushup, jumping backwards onto a soft fluffy mat, doing your handspring over a barrel, getting spotted, starting on the edge of a mat, leaning backward-place your hands on the ground and then pull your legs over. Do them in a belt or on the trampoline, or both. Work on your handstands holds, you have to be strong enough.2: Work on visualizing the skill being done correctly. Watch others, if you were able to do it before, look at video of you doing the skill.3: Give yourself key or cue words. “Jump, arms, push” what ever are the key factors for you in making the skill work.4: Understand that no one will go for a skill that they are afraid of, if their desire to do the skill isn’t greater. You have to want it MORE THAN you are AFRAID of it.

Can I learn/attempt a back handspring in a day?

I think you could learn it pretty quickly! It will take a lot of dedication though. Don't be scared of going backwards. I had the same problem but you just have to trust yourself. Your hands will catch you. Make sure to stay tight. Keep your arms locked so you don't fall on your head. I would suggest going to a gymnastics center for open gym. They can spot you with mats there until you get the hang of it. Good luck! :) And remember to get back up, even if you fall down!
