How do you check hard disk performance on Linux?

One way to do it is through GNOME Disks.Boot into the Live CD of a distribution such as Ubuntu GNOME or Fedora 24 (basically, something with GNOME on it).Why? If you want to do the write portion of the benchmark, the drive (or its partitions) can’t be mounted or in use. Most current disks do not allow for low level formatting.This requires the ability to do a bad block scan to identify flocks that are bad, the ability to allocate/assign replacement blocks… Even in the past, carrying out a low level format on 2GB disks would take several hours… any glitch during that time would destroy the formatting, and you have to start over.Formatting a 1 or 2 TB disk would take many days…

My laptop is running on low disk space but I only have system files on the C:drive. How do I fix this problem?

How much free space does it have and what size drive is it? Does it have another Partition? You could buy a larger disk and clone your system on to it. In My Computer, click the Tools menu then on Folder Options then click the View tab and tick "Show hidden files and folders" then untick "Hide protected system files and folders", click Apply and OK. Then, go into c:\ windows and delete all the files in blue which start with a $ symbol. They are only folders that once contained Windows Updates you no longer need to keep. Then scroll down to the Software Distribution folder and to Download.
