What misconceptions are promoted by popular culture?
There is the misconception that, if millions of people embrace a thing, it must be good. The majority had Socrates killed. The majority sent the Jews to Auschwitz. Popular Culture is the culture of majority, and the majority can most definitely be wrong. I offer the following: an excerpt from a communication with a fellow Quora contributor:Popular culture has weakened the Nation on many levels. Moral degeneracy as induced by media is rather like drug addiction. It leads to a host of other equally serious issues. While people are basing many of their life choices on what they see on cable TV and the Internet, they are not free. Blaming the TV and the Internet would be rather like blaming the heroin for the addiction. In addiction they often speak of "gateway" drugs. Well, there are no such things. In fact, no substance or thing is inherently addictive or conducive to moral downfall. What is the problem is that there are "gateway personalities". The strange thing is that a bizarre heredity seems to be in place. The more gateway personalities we have addicted to pop-culture the more we seem to encounter in the following generation. It makes sense, since mental proclivities are rooted in the physical/chemical structure of the brain, and prolonged/enforced patterns of behavior do seem to become generational.[The solution] is simply a matter of good mentoring combined with not compromising on values, not by so much as one iota.THIS is the true and beating heart of Fascism. We adopt our values and then we do not budge, even if an entire Nation chirps in to tell us we're wrong. A Nation can be wrong. Nazi Germany comes to mind....[Think of] Marcus Aurelius/Elagabulus. Talk about contrasts! Marcus Aurelius, doing all he can to expand the Empire while holding its values and infrastructures together. Elagabulus the Transvestite walking backwards and holding his stone. That's to say nothing of the bizarre relationship with his favorite slave, whom he married. Rome's history offers up great lessons about values and compromise. Perhaps Mussolini's biggest blunder (second biggest after throwing his lot in with Hitler) lie in thinking he could recreate that Glory in a matter of years.This is why you'll never see me pushing for a revolution. Don't believe in them. I want to see a great American Imperium, but I want it to take centuries to build because what goes up in a week can go down in a day. I want to see a Glory that will last for millennia.
Why is it that when a man sleeps with lots of women he is called a stud, but if a woman sleeps with lots of men she is called a slut?
In any traditional patriarchal society, access to vaginas is very tightly regulated. The issue is that the men want to be sure that their offspring really is their offspring and don’t want to be passing on their wealth/property to another man’s progeny. So access to women is restricted and an ideology of chastity as virtue is developed and preached. These attitudes over time become baked in the society and don’t just go away because women get access to the right to vote and higher education. So, in part, women are usually not promiscuous because they’re trained not to be.That said, part of the answer, as many have noted in their answers, it is easier for women to get laid. If you don’t believe me, go online whether on Craigslist or a dating website and post an ad or create a profile stating that you are a woman and you’re looking for no-strings attached sex. Now repeat the process as a man looking for the same thing and you will see the difference. I did this myself about a month ago. I created a female profile with a sexually suggestive picture. Mind you, the girl in my profile wasn’t looking for sex; she was looking for a relationship. She just happened to have a sexually suggestive picture and to have acknowledged on her profile that good sex was a good thing. I got 100 messages in about 6 hours. I don’t care how good you think you look as I guy, your access to sex is never going to be this easy unless you’re a celebrity. This is where the idea comes from that for a man to sleep with a hundred women is more of an accomplishment than for the reverse.
