What game can beat the Breath of Fire series, Golden Sun, and the old Final Fantasy (classic RPG)?
Three of my favourite franchises, these games are pretty timeless classics but they aren't always a pleasure to play, especially once you're used to more recent games. I still love games with turn-based combat though so here's a couple I really enjoyed,Legend of Heroes - the most recent in the franchise being Trails of Cold Steel. Long games that generally come in two parts, it has a really good take on the turn based style though it does lean heavily on tropes.Persona - not my favourite but it is at the least a solid franchise, combat is very strategic and the story is engagingAtelier - good games for completionists, stories are usually short and simple but there's a lot of hidden and extra content for dedicated players. Great crafting system.Grandia - you’ll need a PSP or Vita to play it now but this is an amazing game before its time, one of the most underrated games on PS OneIf you want something a little more niche,Hyperdimension Neptunia - a little grindy but the battle system is really good.Fairy Fencer F - similar in style to Hyperdimension but with its own little twists on the combat.Theres plenty more, this is just off the top of my head, classic jrpg is still a prominent genre and if you have a PC or PlayStation there's plenty to choose from.

"RPG" actually covers a very wide variety. I continually have to update my Best iPad RPGs list to take into account different niches and new games coming out. Some very good fantasy RPGs that have been released include Baldur's Gate, Mage Gauntlet, Sword of Fargoal Legends and Avadon: The Black Fortress.
