Financial Documents For Visa Interview

Do we need to show proof of financials for an F-1 visa interview?

Yes, proof of sufficient funds to support your tuition and living expenses in the U.S. is necessary during an F-1 visa interview. As you probably already know, when you come to the U.S. on an F-1 visa, you (and/or your parents, if you are under age 18) are entirely responsible for your tuition and living expenses. You can also have a relative, friend, or any other non-family member help pay for your tuition and living expenses. However, be aware that you will also need for them to submit bank statements and certify that they will cover your expenses. The reason behind this is the U.S. government wants assurance that you will not become a dependant of the state and rely on any of the social welfare programs that are intended for U.S. citizens. Showing that you (and/or your sponsors) have enough money to pay for everything will assure your interviewer of that fact. The other day I wrote a blog post - How to get an F-1 Student Visa - and in it I explain all of the steps to getting your F-1 visa. To see a bulleted list of the documents you should bring to your visa interview, scroll down to step #6.I take it by now you have already applied for your visa and have received a decision, but I hope my answer will be helpful to anyone else who finds it later on.I wish you all the best in your studies!

What are the list of financial documents required for F1 Visa?

Two types of financial documents that are important:Proof that you can support yourself during your time of study (boarding and lodging), not to mention your school fees. The need here is liquid funds so bank statements from current accounts are the best as proof. Fixed deposit certificates that mature at various times during the time of study are also helpful.Proof that you intend to return back to your country. Here estate documents/sale deeds in your name are the best. Anything that you own and that is grounded in your country BUT with substantial proof is good. Also helpful are auditor's evaluation of jewelry that you own.WRT your question about one time deposit, be prepared to explain transactions. You may want to add some documentation to show origin of funds, say if you sold some property to liquidate funds.

All you need is I20 showing full funding and if the funding is only towards say certain portion of the total amount upto 90 percent, then carry a bank certificate showing balances to cover the shortfall. All other things remain the same. Your ability to academically complete the course and strong ties back to your country to show that you are not a potential immigrant.

I want to appear for the F1 visa interview for which I need to show some fixed assets, liquid cash, etc. Can I show the land belonging to my brother in law as proof? Can I include him in the sponsor's affidavit?
