First Time Going To College. Can I Skip A Semester

Can i skip my first semester of College?

If you have already been approved for financial aid and accepted into the college you need to contact them as soon as possible and inform them that you would like to defer your enrollment to the fall. If they require a reason then you'll have to plead your case. I imagine that you should not have too much trouble but don't just flake and not call them. You need to take care of this right away so that you will have your assistance and acceptance when you are ready for it. Good luck.

Low GPA first semester in college?

Okay. I know that I am a smart person. I always made straight A's, and some B's, up until my last 2 years in high school. Not that I did poorly but I had C's and D's. And it upsets me, it really does. The F in my AP Calculus class cost me a full ride to my college. I did manage to get a 2500 a semester scholarship and two loans successfully and I'm very greatful.
But what's wrong with me?
A lot of people say you have 2 choices out of 3: good grades, a social life, and work/sleep.
I don't have that big of a social life, I have friends but they are busy that majority of the time. I have a boyfriend who is understanding and wonderful. If I needed to skip out on seeing him for homework, I could. He has nothing to do with this... just clearing that up.
I have obviously less than a 2.0 GPA at the moment. I got an email telling me I could schedule for counseling.
I skip my classes way too much... I haven't attended my freshman required orientation class once. I know for sure I have a low F in my college algebra class (I love algebra...) I have a C in my Comp class and I could easily have an A because I love writing. I have an F in both of my drawing classes. And I don't even know what I have in my world civ class. I'm failing. I'm miserable. I'm stressed. I told myself and my parents that I wouldn't do this. I'm so worried I'm going to lose everything -- scholarship, financial aid, and maybe even my admission into the college. Semester ends in early December.

What on earth am I going to do?
I'm afraid to tell my mom... not that she will kill me but I know it will upset her as much as it upsets me. I'm not this kind of person. :\

Can I skip the first semester of college?

Recently I got accepted into a UC. I did everything, all the preparations, but in the end I found out something had gone wrong with my financial aid and that it wouldn't be put into my bill for the first semester. The bill is 10,000 dollars and I simply can't afford it. However, the money may be put in by the second semester. Is it possible to skip the first one and still attend the same UC?

What would happen if I left college for a semester? Would I still be able to go back and pick up where I left off?

The answer is typically yes, your earned degree credits don’t disappear they remain on your transcript for good or for bad.  Indeed, you can officially request a leave of absence for a specified period of time.  You will have to explain why you are taking the leave from your academic program so make sure it is a necessary action.  Some reasons might include a family issue such as a sick parent; insufficiency of funds to pay for your tuition and other required college costs; a military obligation or deployment; volunteering for a special cause such as a disaster at home or abroad; or a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with someone of great renown; or you just need a mental break from studies. Establish a set time when you will be returning and don’t ask for an extension.  Otherwise, you are good to go, provided you have a good reason. And, when you plead poverty some kind hearted person at the college or university just might be able to find some money so you can continue your studies.  Best Regards, Dr. Rick (Steiner) author 0f Retirement: Different by Design published by Hatherleigh Press/Random House

What happens if you miss a semester of college?

Yes but only if she gets her application in and transcripts sent in time for the term she wants to enter there, with application processing it can take anywhere from a month to several. The college you want to transfer to should have information online about when they have application deadlines and when you'd hear from them, if not just shoot out an email to admissions or call them up and ask about how long the application review takes. Worst case she may be able to take classes at the school in PA as a non-degree seeking student, then when all the paperwork arrives/deadline approaches for spring apply again and now she is already taking classes/or a course there.

Missing a semester by itself does nothing but having financial aid may complicate things if you are not 'making satisfactory academic progress' if she has financial aid at her current school she should speak to someone there or do some research on it. Financial aid is usually review during the beginning of the fall term or near the end of the summer, so if you missed a fall term you could make up the credits you are expected to complete per year during the summer term or by taking more than 12 credits in the spring term, if that was the case.

Not enrolling in a course or in college won't hurt her grades but as I said it may cause issues with financial aid, the only thing that has an effect on grades is taking courses and how you do in them.

Should I skip first week of college?

As I know from experience, it ends to throw a class off balance when students miss the first few days. The course has begun and there has probably been an assignment or some in-class work, or both, but the instructor has to put that day's activity on hold long enough to give latecomers the syllabus and any other first-day materials and then work with those students later to bring them up to date. He probably won't have time to go over the syllabus with them in detail as he did the first day.

That said, a good student can probably catch up quickly. Your reason for missing looks like an excellent one, and you HAVE made the situation clear to your professors. If you check in with them as soon as you get to campus and get the class notes from your classmates, you should be OK. (When I was the professor in such cases, I sometimes recommended one or two members of the class as ones most likely to have good notes. You could ask.)

Then, do I understand correctly that your actual decision involves just one day? I think you should do the safest and least stressful thing, The very fact that you're so concerned about the matter suggests that you're conscientious enough to get caught up quiokly and make your professors glad you're there.

Is it possible to skip 11th grade after finishing the first semester of 10th grade if you're 16 years old?

I'm 16 and have finished the first semester of 10th grade. Would the principle allow me to skip 11th grade and go straight to 12th? (I'm not going to college so I dont want to waste my time in High School). My grades are really good (straight A's). So due to the fact that I'm not going to college, is it likely that I'll skip the 11th grade? People, please answer.
