Fleas Or Something Else

Why do fleas bite me & no one else in the house?

What you eat has an effect on being bit by an insect. Eating garlic tends to keep fleas away.

Fleas what else? Help?

I just found my cat has fleas!! I have had her for five years and never ever thought about fleas! it started when my other cat who I had for 3 years started losing his hair when i looked at it closely i say flea dirt and fleas eww when I found the fleas on her i ran to the store and bathed them both in the flea shampoo I know that's not enough but It was 10pm and that's all Safeway had. I just ordered frontline and I have cleaned my whole house with a fogger top to bottom. Anyways I looked at my cats whos losing hair and under further examination I discovered two tiny cuts and when I pushed on them a flea and something white (not puss) came out I am freaking out what could this be????? I dont think fleas burrow and my cat felt nooooo pain when I pushed on it he actually was licking me probably thanking me. I am such a faluire I know but please tell me what you think the vets are closed today until Monday. What could burrow and cause him to lose hair? At first I thought he was alergic to fleas but the cut on him makes me thik something worse! also I dont know how this happened both my cats are 100% indoor.

Can fleas make a cat vomit?

Fleas can cause anemia in dogs & cats or any small animal for that matter if they’ve been feeding on them for a prolonged time.Best scenario would be to keep your cat indoors (in case you do allow him/her outside, cut that out) get the fleas off your cat as much as you can by using a flea comb, in the meantime de-flea your house or apartment, all bedding, upholstery furniture, draperies, baseboard etc & take you cat to a vet to be checked out.The vomiting could be from the fleas or could be something else that needs attention.Don’t put it off.

My cat has fleas and feels itchy. How should I treat him?

Thanks for the A2A!Your best bet is to get kitty to a veterinarian to see what kitty has and get an RX for some of the strong stuff. 2nd best option is to get to a local pet store and get some flea/tick shampoo.  When you bathe a cat the easiest way I've found to do it is using 2 5 gallon buckets. One is used for shampoo and the other for rinsing. Learn how to scruff a cat correctly so you don't get scratched. (You can look that up on several websites) and using warm water helps.  Next if the cat indeed has fleas, sprinkle a tiny bit of yeast in kitty's food. It makes kitty smell bad to fleas. If it's ticks or something else yeast won't work. Remember to wash all the places kitty has been thoroughly and get some stuff to treat the house so kitty doesn't get them again.  Hopefully it is easy to get rid of, I know from experience fleas really suck! Good luck!

What should I do about my cat's fleas?

Putting Advantage on your cat's neck was a good thing to do. But if he still has living fleas, there's something else that needs to be done. Many people don't know this, but to properly treat fleas, one must also treat the surroundings. Vacuum the floors and furniture and wash all bedding. Get a flea comb and comb the fleas out of the cat's fur. Just combing won't kill them, though, they can still jump off. You have to squish them (between the fingernails) or dip the comb into water so that they drown. A bath for your cat every week with flea shampoo is also a good idea. He'll hate it, but it's good for him. If none of these things help, by all means, see what the vet has to recommend. Good luck with getting rid of those pests!

What is the purpose of fleas and ticks?

According to most people, every creature and thing,etc.... has a purpose in this world. But what purpose can a hate able, blood sucking, gross insect have in the world to actually help it?
Each time i see one i feel like burning it to ashes....

I think I saw something small and dark moving in my cat's fur. Does this mean for certain she has fleas, or could it be some other type of more innocuous insect?

It may be a flea, or it may be something else.Fleas multiply rapidly, so it’s unlikely that there is just one. Look for more fleas, especially around her rear end and neck.Does your cat scratch herself more than usual? That’s a sign that she probably has fleas. When combing your cat’s coat, do little dark insects stay in the comb? They’re probably fleas. After your cat has sat or slept on a surface, are there tiny hard white grains on that surface? Those are flea eggs.If your cat has fleas, or if it seems likely that she has, you can get flea treatment. This is either in the form of a tablet (serve it crushed up in a creamy treat), or a liquid to dab at the back of the neck. The treatments work very fast. In many cases, your cat will be flea-free within half an hour.If you can afford it, take your cat to the vet. Vets can say for certain if the problem is caused by fleas, and they can prescribe a treatment that’s exactly right for your cat’s age, weight etc. and for the locality. You can also buy flea treatment in pharmacies, some pet shops, and online. These tend to cost less.Be careful: fleas develop immunity to treatments. Treatments that once were effective, some years later no longer work. This can be a problem, especially when buying online. The immunity is localised. Fleas in some regions may still die when exposed to the stuff, but where you live they may no longer have any reaction to it. Ask your neighbours, a local cat shelter, or of course your vet, which treatments are still effective. In the meantime, vacuum your home, especially the areas where you cat is hanging out a lot, to remove flea eggs and larvae.I hope this helps.

What are the best over-the-counter flea medicine for dogs? How about for cats?

Fleas are a nuisance. These tiny, blood-sucking parasites irritate your Dog and can also infest your home.Dogs and cats often get infested with fleas through contact with other animals or contact with fleas in the environment. The flea's bite can cause itching for the host but for a sensitive or flea-allergic animal, this itching can be quite severe and leads to hair-loss, inflammation and secondary skin infections. Therefore it is very necessary to get rid of from this problem. There are many cheap flea medicines available which can prevent your pet from fleas but one of the most effective ways to overcome it is by using Nitenpyram. It is one of the most effective ways to overcome from Flea problems.

My cat has fleas. Can they be transferred to me?

“My cat has fleas. Can they be transferred to me?”EDITED (Thank you Mary Nelson)Yes, definitely, and to your carpets and your bedding. This is a problem that needs to be solved. You should talk to your vet about it, asap.Put your cat on Advantage or something like it. These drugs make the cat’s blood toxic to fleas. It really works - when we used to volunteer at an animal shelter, we would get heavily infested cats all the time. One drop of Advantage on the back of the neck - within 2 days the fleas were moving feebly and within 4 days they were all dead. The only problem is that, in some areas, fleas are developing resistance to Advantage. Your vet should know about this, and may recommend some other product. The advantage of these drugs is that the next generation of fleas (from the eggs that got laid in your carpet) will be attracted to the cat, drink his blood, and die in their turn. Keep the cat dosed for two or three months and all the eggs will be hatched and done with, and no fleas to lay more eggs. At that point you can stop dosing, unless you let the cat go outdoors, in which case you should dose him for life.BTW your cat may have tapeworms also (fleas carry them). Talk to your vet about it.
